Since picking up a NGPC, it got me thinking about the old GBC. What are the good games for it? I did a search and found this topic but it lumps Gameboy and Gameboy Color games together.
http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=45757
So I'll start a list here. Two AYE votes gets a game added, two NAY votes gets a game kicked off...
Arcade Hits: Joust & Defender
Arcade Hits: Moon Patrol & Spy Hunter

It just puts the games in color, but all four volumes of the Konami GB Collection (European exclusive under that name; there's also a Japanese version) have classic Game Boy titles in color. They play just fine on a B&W GB, too.

Legend of Zelda, The: Link's Awakening DX
Legend of Zelda, The: Oracle of Ages*
Legend of Zelda, The: Oracle of Seasons*
All AMAZING games. Must-Buys.

Add to this the first couple of Pokémon games (Blue/Red). Sure, the series have had a bit of change since, but this is still the best 2 in the series, if only because this is where it all began.

Dragon’s Lair. Without a doubt, the most mind-blowing arcade-to-GBC translation I’ve ever seen. The fact that they crammed a laser disc game onto a GB cart still amazes me.

Ahh, but Blue/Red is for B+W Gameboy. Would you like to change your vote to Pokemon Gold/Silver?

Metal Gear Solid is a great GBC-exclusive game. Also, Shadowgate Classic is a pretty faithful translation of the NES version, but I don't know if I'd call it a must-buy.

Mine would be Dragon Warrior 3 (Cramming the entire SFC port minus the battle backgrounds!) and Super Mario Bros. DX.

Mario Golf is an absolute must have, I have clocked over 50 hours on that bad boy, and I still play it every day. It's just so great, and anyone who owns a GBC should own this gem.

Game & Watch Gallery 2
Game & Watch Gallery 3
Heroes of Might & Magic
Monster Rancher Battle Card
Tomb Raider: Curse of the Sword
It looks like I posted too late. All my favorites were spoken for.

Add an AYE for me here.
I'd like to nominate Pokemon Pinball as well.

I ran into this bug too. Its been a while but it seems like the game would crash when I tried to enter a level not too far into the game. I played through several times to this point and always had to stop there. Does anybody have any other data on this problem? Is there a version out there that doesn't have the bug? I don't mean to be off topic, but this has been on my nerves for years now.

I'll second some stuff already mentioned:
Game and Watch Gallery 2
Game and Watch Gallery 3
Mario Tennis
Wario Land 3
I'd also like to add Pokemon Pinball if anyone wants to second it.
EDIT: Joe beat me by a minute on Pokemon Pinball, so I second that one too ;)

I nominate MegaMan Xtreme 2. Graphics are pretty darn good!
Also, a quick comment on Bionic Commando GBC. Didnt this game have a glitch? I remember plugging it in and not being able to cross over to an early level on the map, level 3 maybe. You would encounter a truck enemy on the map and the game would freeze. Everytime. I'd say I returned 2-3 of these. I miss it! :-(
Anyone know about this ? (Sorry if I am thread hijacking)

Here's a list of what I thought were great games (some repeats I know):
- Aladdin
- Azure Dreams
- [b]Donkey Kong Country (although the GBA versions is 100x better)
- Game & Watch Gallery 2
- Game & Watch Gallery 3
- Ghosts 'n Goblins
- Harvest Moon
- Harvest Moon 2
- Harvest Moon 3
- Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble
- Legend of Zelda, The: Link's Awakening DX
- Legend of Zelda, The: Oracle of Ages
- Legend of Zelda, The: Oracle of Seasons
More when the come to me.

No mention of Shantae? That's the only GBC title I own (and want).

07-07-2005, 05:45 PM
I'll second Perfect Dark, Deja Vu, Metal Gear Solid, and Azure Dreams. All are really good GBC games.
I also liked Yars' Revenge. Once you got past the scrolling screen, it was a fun remake of the original.
If Bratwurst didn't mention it, I'd have brought up Shantae. Very good gameplay and decently challenging. Large game world, generally nonlinear, with limits imposed by your need to get additional animal forms to gain access to every nook and cranny. Reminded me of Wonder Boy in Monster World (haven't played WB III, but it sounds similar, too).
Beyond that, all my must-haves have been mentioned above multiple times (Zelda anything, the Dragon Warrior 1-3 remake ports), unless you're counting original gameboy releases, then I'd add Metroid 2 and the Final Fantasy Legend series.

I definitely agree on all 3 Zeldas. They are simply great! I also enjoy the 2 GBC Warioland games. I am currently playing Warlocked.

I'll pony up a vote for the Pokemon TCG game as well. It is a fun game, and a wonderful recreation of the card game. Probably the best CCG/TCG adaptation that has been done on a system (the old Magic the Gathering game is close though).

Although I will be like the fourth person to agree that Deja Vu I & II deserves to be on the list of the best Gameboy Color games, I did not see what I think is far and away the best GBC game on anyone's list--Survival Kids. It's one of the ten best RPGs of all time, if you ask me. Can't wait for Lost in Blue (Survival Kids' pseudo-sequel) on the DS this fall.

I haven't played that many GBC games, but here's what I like so far:
R-Type DX
Super Mario Bros. DX
The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
Pokemon Pinball
Top Gear Pocket 2
Jumpman Jr.

Only one for me:
Legend of Zelda, The: Link's Awakening
Only game worth playing. :D

Dragon’s Lair. Without a doubt, the most mind-blowing arcade-to-GBC translation I’ve ever seen. The fact that they crammed a laser disc game onto a GB cart still amazes me.
:eek 2: You mean it's not a platformer? I really want to see this...
I have two GBC favorites: Toki Tori and Dragon Warrior III. I didn't really get into the GBC.

Link's Awakening DX and R-Type DX belong in EVERY GBC collection.

The fact that R-Type DX didn't make this official list is a crime. I might also add Monster Rancher Battle Card because it's a decent port of one of my favorite PlayStation games.

R-Type DX
Super Mario Bros. DX
The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
Pokemon Pinball

3D Ultra Pinball: Thrillride
Bionic Commando: Elite Forces
Disney's The Little Mermaid II: Pinball Frenzy (uses the same engine as 3D Ultra Pinball)
Dragon Warrior I & II

Mickey's Racing Adventure
Micro Machines V3
Pokemon Puzzle Challenge
Project S-11 (best vertical shmup on the GBC)
Sgt. Rock on the Frontline
Test Drive 2001
Top Gear Pocket (though I wish it had a battery save like the sequel, instead of a password save).
