I knew it was rare, but I didn't think it would go for $100 more than Bubble Bath Babes and $250 more than Hot Slots.

well you do get a manual, which pretty much boosts the price by another $100 - $150

I don't know if there's a box for the Caltron, but I'd hate to think what it would go for with that too!

Guess I should have spiked for $600 instead of $525, which before it ended seemed like "a safe bet."

It came with a box. If I recall a factory sealed one sold recently for $700 to a DP member.

Also, according to "leorange" he had a rather sizeable collectoin of sealed/complete Caltrons. See the following post: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=52826&highlight=caltron+sealed

okay that is nuts.

I thought it was bad when i bought my cart only for 250... but 535 with manual!?!?!? that is insane.

@8bitnes - the sealed 6 in 1 that you are talking about was the myriad... which is quite harder to find then a sealed caltron (which are floating around thanks to leorange) or any caltron for that matter.

@megamanfan - it appears you really wanted that game. nintman is a STUPID bidder (just look at the past auctions he has won/lost), don't get into a bidding war with him, just snipe the auction, cuz he will drive the price up like no ones business. The last complete ( I mean 100% complete with box manual sleeve and cart) sold for 272 to captain nintendo). Wait a while, you can snag a better deal than that, and probably one that is complete.

BTW, if anyone has an extra caltron manual or sleeve and don't mind parting with theirs i'm your man.

True, I just won a boxed Pipemania, I was looking for it for a while now and when I finally found one I got outbidded in what was becoming a bidwar,it went for $125 orso,I stopped at a point and told myself to wait.

A few weeks ago I saw another one boxed and I won it for $20 shipping included! Sometimes is much better to wait, the difference about $105.

good lord :o ...if i had any idea it would eventually be like this, maybe i would have sat on that box for the 6 years or so that it's been. i traded like a king there for a little bit, but i think the most i got for a sealed caltron on ebay was between $150-$200, in 2000, if i remember right. i think i might have sold a sealed one to someone on gtz for $40 too a little bit before that. @_@ i'll just heave a small, wistful sigh now...

Or are you thinking of the Myriand 6-in-1 factory sealed that bronty-2 won? :)

This is easily one of the worst buys I have EVER seen on Ebay. It sold for more than 3x the DP value of this game is. Nintman is now officially the dumbest newbie buyer on Ebay (taking down cpumaster).

It takes 2 to tango

Very true, and I almost tangoed myself into an over $500 purchase.

Still if everybody's right about nintman being crazy and that being hugely over the market value, I don't feel bad about it. I'd certainly be happy to get a loose one in nice condition for half the price. I just assumed with a spike that big I'd get it for sure, it never occured to me the bid would rise to and over the amount of my spike. So I'm kinda glad I didn't win, but yes I really do still want the cart. :D

Who is nintman, btw? Much like the neswoman of old, he's bidding pretty crazy amounts on NES stuff lately, but I don't recognize the name from any forums. Anyone know him? 70 bucks for a complete Qix? 45 for cart-only Contra Force? Are you kidding me? (Though he did snag Action 52 BIN for 67, which is solid).

not as solid as my action 52 for 54.99 (100% complete)... I even outbid him on the last cheetahmen II CIB and won it for 172.00. If i would have bid before, he surely would have won. Thank you ezsnipe! Anyways, some NES collectors are nuts, that's all i know.

DL racked up quite the tab during my first collection sale back in 01 (sealed action 52, duck tales 1&2, chip n dales 2, casino kid 2, contra, panic restuarant, etc). The complete myriad was the only non-sealed game he purchased from me and to my understanding were all a part of the "master" collection he cashed out on. I must say...the guy is one of the best buyers in the history of "the game".

I believe I've sold you a couple of things as well...

ps. atwood only has a few handfuls left to go but the last time we spoke he had an awesome trade list. Might wanna holler at the old fogey ;)

re DL - yeah he was buying like a crazy man in 01 and 02. Calmed down since - he really hasn't bought anything in about a year except for a sealed mega man.

I've bought from you? How about that :) ... what did I buy, or what's your ebay handle?

re atwood - thanks but I'd rather slit my wrists than deal with that thief. Since you already know DL you might as well know that according to DL, atwood sold DL 10k worth of reseals.. and pointed him to an acquaintance (speculated as being Dailey) that sold him another 40k worth. I wish I was kidding and assuming what DL says is true (I believe it to be) than atwood fucking belongs in a goddamn mexican jail.

PS - can anyone speak to what the highest known serial #s are for the 6 in 1s?

Only the Myriad 6-in-1 has numbered boxes/carts, and according to DP the highest number is 888. I'm not sure who owns that copy, though. I tried to establish a list of how many are in collector's hands, and have come to 11 numbered, 3 unknown #'s (could be the same as one or more of the 11 numbered ones). So 11-14 different copies; although I'm sure I'm missing quite a few.

It could be interesting to get everyone who owns a copy of the game to let us know their # so that we can get a more accurate picture of how many are floating around in collectors' hands. My Myriad is number 519.

Holy shit!!! This is the most messed up thing ever! That Caltron and the 2 other games with it come from the same exact local video rental store that I used to work at for 3 years! When I started, they liquidated ALL of their NES games and I got all the ones remaining. However, they had previously sold a few others before that (probably bad renters), meaning someone got to the Caltron, Chiller, and Death Race just weeks before me. I guarantee these are from the store I was at, because those stickers are IDENTICAL to the ones I have on over 150 of my games. I have Little Samson, Fire N Ice, and several other rare NES games with the mint box, no manual, and cart with the 1 sticker on front, 1 on back, and 2 voids on the side, and 2 criss crossed security stickers on the back. This is amazing to me at least.. I was very good friends with the owners and that is how I got all the NES games from them.. If only I worked there a few weeks earlier, I probably would have accessed the CALTRON!! Aghhhhh!

Here are some pictures of my carts from the same place. Just compare the similarities. I removed most of the stickers, but these ones still remain, all look similar, but the 3rd one on the right is identical to Caltron's video rental sticker format.

Here is his auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8204343178&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Now, compare:

Here are three games from the same place. I have 100's like this, meaning they must have come from the same place:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/bizbizjohn/IMG_2701.jpg

Here's the kicker, look at the seller's auction and compare those 3 games to my pictures:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/bizbizjohn/IMG_2702.jpg

And by the way, I got my NES games for 99 cents with employee discount. To consumers, 1.99. Yes, Caltron cost 1.99. O_O

Wow that is CRAZY!

I traded with the guy a few times and the games were indeed genuine factory sealed...I wonder what he's been up to since then? lol. Funny how he was always telling me that Carlos was the "re-sealer in the hobby".

do the ebay names edeeek, tuxik921, or e-zee-e ring a bell? I've sold one collection under each name for three consecutive years from 01-03. I'm now under i-got-that-beat and sold what will probably be my last collection earlier this year. I can remember you bidding on some stuff..can't recall if you won or not....but I've seen you around for ages!

Bronty-2
07-10-2005, 05:04 PM
Yep, it's an ugly little secret. they were pretty careful to cover their tracks on the 40k worth (paypal account accepting balance transfers only, minimal communication, paypal invoices that described the games only as 'sealed' rather than factory sealed, no name ever used or given, etc). DL should have known better. But nobody deserves to get screwed out of 50k, and according to DL 10k worth were in fact bought directly from atwood. I guess he figured DL wouldn't know the difference because he definitely had more money than knowledge at that time. The other 40k in packages were mailed from a town in kansas about 10mins drive from where dailey lives. Assuming it was him, it was probably by his work.

atwwod and dailey were definitely passing money back and forth between the two of them at that time, that I can say as a 110% fact. I bought a resealed metal gear solid from dailey right around this time and he needed to send atwood $1000, which is exactly what DL was being charged on most games by this 'mystery seller' in kansas. Anyway, since I had filed a paypal objection over the metal gear dailey's account was yanked and he couldn't send atwood the money without getting me to pull the objection. Which unfortunately I did (I had no idea what was or wasn't going on at the time and dailey had atwood refund me the $70 via paypal so I figured why not, I'll cut this guy a break). So the 40k in my mind was definitely some combination of atwood and dailey, although I can't prove it (but the evidence is pretty damn strong in my opinion since atwood led DL to the mystery seller in the first place, per DL). What is a fact according to DL is that 10k worth were def. bought directly from atwood. DL looked at filing some sort of postal fraud charges or hiring a lawyer but he never went through with that. Probably would have cost another 50k to get actual charges happening and that's IF they would have stuck.

the name edeeek I remember. Don't recall if I bought anything from you or not either. Nice to talk to an oldtimer though.

carlos - well, I don't know if he actually reseals or not. I just know that i don't trust him.

Well, just talked to the seller and he got them at the same video store I worked at for 3 years. I worked there from 2001-2004, he got Caltron sometime between 1999-2000. When I put it all together and look thru all the manuals I got for NES stuff, I came to the conclusion that the video store had a Caltron (1 at each of the 4 locations), Cheetahmen 2, Action 52, all 3 Panesians, and a Maxi 15. And of course, all the rarest licensed except Stadium Events. I got Flinstones 2, Little Samson, and 200 other NES games, he got Caltron, Challenge Of The Dragon, Chiller, and Death Race. They had a Cheetahmen, but someone got it. When all is said and done, the manager threw the manuals to all 4 Caltron's away, and probably the same thing with all other manuals that I am missing, since I got all that remained when they closed down last year.

not the same guy. the name was mentioned above.

as for the 50k bit, it was for rare sealed stuff, and DL was way overpaying on top of that. But he definitely spent that much (just on this one series of reseal deals). He came into some family trust proceeds in 2001 and had a whole lot of money to spend for a while there.

imanerd0011
07-11-2005, 09:18 PM
Just how many sealed games are we talking about here? I would think that $50,000 could get you almost an entire sealed NES collection, or at least pretty damn close to it.

Whoever spends $50,000 on sealed NES games has some serious problems, and probabley needs mental help (seriously).

Bronty-2
07-12-2005, 02:21 AM
Not as many as you'd think. But what does it matter, the point is he was ripped off. Sure, he overpaid. But it was his money to spend - the fact that he was paying 3x market due to impatience doesn't change the fact that it isn't right for someone to send him a $20 reseal passed off as legitimate.

Subject: Hi Tim

I got a message from steve today. It's actually kind of interesting timing
because I was thinking about writing you the other day after talking to Dave
for the first time in close to a year and dealing with him (or trying to). I
basically got frustrated with him for the 100th time and told him off. I
don't want to speak to him ever again - and it did make me think that I might
have jumped the gun in terms of villainizing you over whatever your dealings
with him did or didn't consist of. The fact of the matter is that he's a
severe pain in the ass and I wasn't directly involved so I shouldn't have been
shooting my mouth off. And the fact of the matter is that collecting is
supposed to be a hobby for me, it's supposed to be fun. Anyway... I was going
to send you this a couple weeks ago but thought I should just let sleeping dogs
lie.

However, I understand steve mentioned he had a friend that might be interested
in the nes. Well, obviously that's me, we both know it and there's no point in
trying to be cute so I thought I would just be upfront and write you. Besides,
if I am in fact going to buy anything I'd like for the deal to be on upfront
terms anyway.

So... let me know your thoughts. I'd like to bury the hatchet and might be
interested in some games. Why the nes though? I would have thought that
would be the last thing you'd sell. I might be interested in some the cases
although I don't know if I can afford them. That was one hell of a score on
your part. Anyway, if you have a list for me of what's for sale and/or a list
of the cases I'd be interested in looking it over.

Dan
