Just wondering if there is any way I can make my UO_SNES emu and Genesis emu run any faster on the PSP? Ive tried turning it up to 333mghz and doing the frame skip thing, but i didnt notice that much difference. What do you guys and gals run yours at?
Also, what is the danger in running at that high of mghz?

Try turning the sound off and making the screen size smaller. I hear that helps allot.

I've been playing both the snes and pc engine ones in 333 mhz and they've been working pretty well. The pc engine one is just about perfect while the snes one has a little slowdown but not much, maybe it's just the actual slowdown from the original games. I couldn't tell you about the genesis one, as I never got to work and deleted it.

Try using the "SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis Emulator" from PSPHacks.com. The other Genesis emulator just gave me a red screen and wouldn't boot anything. Just a note about the one that does work, It has no sound but it's the only Genesis emulator on the site that does work.
Heh, Yeah I know I said I wasn't interested in playing emualtors on my PSP, But the hype got me really curious and now I have turned into a Rom whore.
BTW, Maybe someone can make a general discussion thread on PSP emulation since there are a few already floating around here. It just makes more sense to keep just 1 thread discussing all thing about it.

DGEN works fine for me. The sound isn't always great but the emulation is pretty good. I got that same red screen using PSPgenesis.
As for the 333mhz, it won't damage your unit. The system is built to handle it - as I understand it the default is 222mhz for current games because of Sony's battery life concerns.

your not going to get much faster with the UO_SNES emu right now.
I have my settings at 333 MHz 22KHz for sound and Frameskip at 3 and it runs alright. I played U.N. Squadren all the way through only getting slow down at intensive parts.
But yeah I hope they can get it to work in Full emulation but I really don't think it's going to happen.
though my genesis Emu works Great with no slow down. though the sound is sorta off. I'm using PSPgenesis.

The TG emulator I run on PSP really isn't any good unless you crank it up to 333. I've yet to figure out where the option is in the NES emulator but there are some games that really need it (Kirby's Adventure and Super Mario 3 among others) when I do.

The reason you get the red screen in PSPGenesis is because there is a font file you have to copy to the folder the emu is in. When you use the exploit tool and it puts the emu on the psp, it doesn't add that file. I think it's extention .fnt or something. Just put that in the same folder as the emu, and it'll work.

As I (barely) understand it, none of these current emus are tapping into the PSP's GPU to lessen the visual load; they're all exclusively using the CPU. If and when the hacker-dudes crack the GPU, current emus will run at full speed, and PS1/N64 emus will be possible.
For now, though, I run my SNES emu with a default frameskip of 3, tweaking the number on a game-by-game basis.
Which Genesis emu are you using? I haven't had any speed issues with PSPGenesis v0.13, which seems to run everything full-blast.

I was using PSPGenesis and it is buggy as hell for me. Is there a way to change the mghz and frame skip in pspgenesis?

Which version are you using? v0.13 is the latest.
There isn't a frameskip option that I recall (don't have my PSP in front of me at the mo'), but you can change the MHz by pressing one of the face buttons to toggle up to 333.

It's funny, I'll adjust the speed at the start of, say, Super Mario Kart, and everything will be fine, it's running at near 100%. Then, as soon as the race starts, everything sllllooowwwss down....

That's because when the race starts Mode 7 scaling was used for the "3d" look. And apparently that is very hard to emulate.

Thanks a lot for the info. I'm going to go d/l the Megadrive/Genesis one considering I was getting that same red screen and couldn't get any games to play. I wasn't aware there were two of them.

Hi I found this on the internet. It for the snes eme it made the emulator much more easy to deal with. I am glad I found it. Also you acess the configuration menu with the psp thumbstick. Good Luck
hey every1 its waynehead ive figured out some tips for using the snes9x 0.02y15 i ve played super mario rpg, earthbound and super mario world wth sound 100% speed using the following settings (use as follows) :
frameskip :01
auto frameskip : on
Screensize : 4:3
show fps : on or off u decide
vsync : on
sound: on
sound rate: 22 khz
transparency: off is best but on doesnt slow it down that much but u should put it on off to get 100
graphic speed : x 1.0
sound speed : x1.0
psp clock : 333mhz 266 works good too if ur afraid to push it to the limit
and there you go earthbound works perfect i cant put it down

The developer of the HUE (TG-16/PCE) emulator apparently tapped the GPU for his latest version, which bodes well for zippier emus in the near future.

Yes, but the support is spottier than PCE for PSP 0.70, which isn't exactly rock-solid either.

No problem, I had the same problem at first. I get the blank red screen and press random buttons and a rom would load up, then I'd get back to the menu and it was just the blank red screen. I figured it was a simple fix.

I was just reading an article where sony talks about how it will fight modding the psp. Sony states in order to play new games software will be installed on your psp from the new realease itself, this will prevent modding /emulators etc. Anyone else hear about this?

I haven't, but it is possible for them to do. Remember that if there is a will there is a way. It will be just a matter of time before someone figures out away to mod around that.

It's already done. There is a program that will let you run the game off the UMD bypassing the version check and Auto Update. :D

That will only lose them money, as people would be more inclined to download and run games off the memory stick.
