I recently got this on ebay and it just arrived. of course the post office played soccer or something with it and it recieved a bit of damage. nothing real "major" but a few of the corners are a bit crunched up. this is the ebay pic of the box:

is this box really rare or were they pretty common? I never got into the SNES when it first came out so I have no idea.

It should be very common, as it was a bundle sold for quite a while.

thanks for the reply. the other thing I was going to ask was if there are different variations of this box?

well it may be so, but i've never seen that box. nice score. SNES boxes come in MANY variations. I just picked up a CIB SNES model one with SMW and a SM Allstars Pack in (two games, not the double cartridge). I don't see complete SNES very often, in fact i tend to see more complete NES systems then SNES's

First time I've seen that box too, very cool looking. Sometimes variations can be hard to spot. I've got 2 snes boxes that look exactly the same on the front, except one has "Includes super mario world" in the corner with a pic of mario riding yoshi. A small difference, but a difference nonetheless.

so it would figure that it got a bit damaged since it appears to be a little bit rare. :(

I just bought another complete killer instinct SNES set that has the normal looking box(like all the rest) with the little spot in the bottom corner which states its the Killer Instinct bundle. so I guess there was a variant of this set.

EDIT TO ADD:

here is a pic I just resized to show the bit of damage on the box. mainly the bottom right side of the box in the pic.

For the record, Killer Instinct rules. I still need to go pickup a sealed copy on ebay for $5

Okay, despite what people have said, I personally have seen this box plenty of times. It's definitely a cool collector's item, but it never seemed hard to find for me. Maybe it's a regional thing?

Do you mean game or system? The rarest games would also have the rarest boxes atleast :)

A few years ago a lady was unloading a whole bunch of brand new killer instinct snes system one at a time on Ebay. Most sold between 50.00 and 60.00. I believe my version contained the sound track. I tracked her auctions untill she ran out. Mine is still new and in the box. The funny thing is that the corners wear over time although still unused the corners are the first victims of time. It is quite possible one of the buyers decided to part with the gem. I often think about selling on of my new snes systems them I sober up.

I think that the killer instinct version was real common at the time. Nintendo released the version to capitalize on the killer instinct craze.

oh, I know. it's just that I have been looking for an SNES system for awhile now and this is the first time I have ever seen this box. every box I have seen was the standard box with the little section in the corner stating what set it is. I was just curious as to if I wanted to find another one if I would be able to.
