Monitor or TV?

I'm wondering if I need to buy a TV or a monitor. I would rather get a TV since I can easily find one that's around 27 inches cheap. Are there any advantages of having a monitor instead of a TV?

Are you talking about a MAME cabinet? You're going to want an RGB monitor. The simple explanation is that your TV is going to make all the games look kind of blurry, whereas an RGB monitor is what's in actual arcade cabinets.

RGB monitor -- most accurate, also most expensive and most complicated to get working.

Computer monitor -- easiest to install, least authentic looking.

Television -- nice compromise, looks fairly authentic and is fairly easy to get working.

For my MAME cab I bought a 19" Symphonic TV for $80 and spent another $40 to put . a TV video card in my PC. You might be skeptical of the picture quality, but my friend Dan had already done the same set-up on his MAME project and it looked great. Let's put it this way and maybe it'll make sense - you'd play Konami Arcade Classics or Galaga: Demons of Death or Namco Museum Volume 3 on a PSOne with a 19" TV right? You'd plug that video input right in and go to town. Maybe you'd want a high resolution monitor for something with a lot of text, like if you were playing RPG's or editing Word documents on a PC, but if you're playing arcade games it's going to be just like hooking that PSOne up to a TV and just as acceptable in quality.
