I was amazed that my search turn up no posts on this, but what do guys think of Killer 7?
I personally think it's an amazing game with odd, arcahic controls and a really fucked up story. The game is entertaining but also disturbing (One word: Kaede). I know it's been getting mixed reviews from the community so what do you have to say?

Well, I haven't yet played it, but I always thought that it looked real damn enterprising. I would also like to hear opinions of K7 so I can decide whether or not it rules enough to warrant a purchase. :)

I don't have it, but it's been on my "must buy" list for a long time. It looks too strange to pass up.

I haven't played it yet, but it looks very interesting. So I might give it a rental just to make sure I like it, before I shell out the $50

Buddy, strange ain't the half of it. It's down right wierd. i'm only on the second assignment and i'm confused as all hell. but in a good way.

its supposed to be one of those "it would kickass if it wasn't a game" games. i'll wait for it to reach the $15 price zone.

It looks very interesting, but yeah, $50 is a bit too high for me. I'll wait for the price to plummet like I did Red Dead Revolver which I just picked up today for $10.
I gotta go read some reviews of it now.
I promised myself I'd get XIII as well when its price dropped. Still haven't gotten that though.

Actually there's a lot more substance to killer 7 then to "one of those if it wasn't a game, game." Yes the story is the most important part, but the gameplay is far from boring. It's not a game where you're just trying to get to the next cut-scene.

This certainly isn't a middle of the road title. I can't afford it right now, but from what I played at E3 I'm sure I would get quite a bit of enjoyment out of it.
There's pretty much 3 camps when it comes to this game (based on the reviews I've read):
1. Love it. The controls were akward for a little bit, but eventually seemed to oddly fit
2. Love it. The controls never seem to fit but it's simply too bizzare and amazing to let that mar an otherwise insane experience.
3. Hate it. The controls and gameplay are simply too bad to bother with the instantly confusing story. Not worth the pain to see it through to the end.
I already know I'm in group number 1.

Microplay said it wasn't out until next week. I'm definitely interested in getting it.

Killer 7 seems to be one of the 'love it or hate it'-titles.
Last week I read two reviews....GI gave it a 1.5, IGN gave it a 8.1 if I remember correctly.
I'll pick it up for ten dollars like PN03 for two reasons:
1. The interesting approach that story and visuals come first, and then the gameplay mechanics are suited around them. It is a variation of the Lorne Lanning approach, and the extreme opposite of the Miyamoto game design.
From the graphics and storyline it is interesting and unique. If it worked out, I have to see when I play it. We all know what happened to XIII and Auto Modellista...
2. It was one of the intended Capcom exclusive titles for the GC. Interesting and nice to have all of them on the GC.

dont let anyone sell you in on this game, ive met as many people who hated it as loved, most were my friends who i trust, others were the regular store workers i talk with.
the absolute best thing to do is to rent it or play it at a friends house before you buy it, but only if you must experience it asap. if you already have a backlog of games to play, wait till the 20 dollar gloden price drop, i suspect it will be within the next 6 months, its doing very bad in retail (and everyone always complains about lack of innovation lol)
oh and lendelin, at the last minute capcom decided to release this for ps2 as well, so no longer GC exclusive, its out on both.

yeah, I know; I meant that the title was part of the couple of exclusive GC titles announced two (?) years ago which makes it worthwhile to get for the trivial historical significance; well, actually not so trivial because the shift of these titles to the PS2 as well says a lot about the performance of the GC.
...and I agree, the game can be had in the next nine months for probably ten dollars, it will drop in price fast unless it develops a cult following pretty soon.

Apparently you can tell the PS2 version was a last minute thing. The controls are apparently unresponsive and the game seems to play better (With less loading times) on the Cube.
Yay Cube!
I would have gotten the Cube one anyway. Just nice to know it has the better version. :D

I'll probably rent it first (if I can actually FIND it to rent anywhere) and then purchase it after the eventual price drop.
Though I think it's going to become one of those hard-to-find games in the future...

I really dont get this board sometimes. Its always 'New games arent innovative enough!' and 'Stop with the sequals!', but when an intresting game comes along, all you can say is 'I'll wait till the price drop.'.

Innovative != Good, which is certainly arguable if Killer7 is or is not. Innovative yes, but worth $50?

Ah yes, the Capcom 5. What a shame that the only one of them that's still GC exclusive is PN03 and we all know how bad it sucks.

You're absolutely right about the performance difference. In my local EB they had both the PS2 and GC version on display and damn does the ps2 one suck. I was just fooling around and i experienced a couple of nasty slow-downs and the load times were notiably longer. I really pity the Sony lovers out there who can't wait for the PS2 version of RE4. I mean it's gonna have terrible load times and in my opinion the GC controller is far better for RE.

New innovative games are in demand. But when something is this drastically different you have to test the waters. I jumped in a full price, because Killer 7 looked interesting to me and i had some extra cash (thanks for the GST check Goverment of Canada). The controls in Killer 7 are just completely wrong for a 3rd person game, but you get use to it. If you play Myst, or D games you'll get the hang of the controls and appreciate it. It's not the best scheme for the game, but it's useable. However it is still oddball enough to make many people cautious.
i suspect it will be within the next 6 months, its doing very bad in retail (and everyone always complains about lack of innovation lol)
Doing bad in retail? Well no shit. The game isn't being well marketed (i've seen almost no marketing out side of a rare gaming mag ad) and it's being understocked. I bought the last GC copy right off the shelf at EB because they only had a hand full of copies come in. I think they said the only had 10 GC copies and 10 PS2 copies and they're all gone now.

Hey, I'm just an all-around cheapass. :)
It's been described as some sort of screwed-up combination of game and modern art. So I'll have to pick it up eventually. My enjoyment of a game is often directly proportional to how batshit insane it is.

I didn't actually mean plays like myst but rather uses a rail based movement system like myst. That means you don't just run around freely, but rather you're character moves forwards along a rail and when you hit a junction you choose which way to go. Go read a review and you'll see what i mean.
Well, I'd be able to tell you what THAT means...if only Myst worked on current OSes...
That's what the Myst DVD collection and the Myst Masterpeice Edition are for.

[sheepishly]Heh... heheheh... that's the last time I highlight "search all terms" in the search engine. :embarrassed: :embarrassed: :embarrassed:
Well... anyway... this has got to be one of the more innovative games that I've played this year. Actually, it's really only one of the few games released this year that I've played, but it's certainly unique beyond belief. Apparently, most American critics bash it for the "on-rails" movement of the game, yet Japanese reviewers hate the fact that it's too much like an FPS game at times. Honestly, the on-rails controls just seem to fit perfectly with the bizzareness of the entire damn shebang. No doubt that the plot's screwy... I still don't understand it entirely, but I THINK I get the gist of it. There was this one scene that I found frightening, mostly because I had grown to love all of the personalities in their own way... that's all I'm saying. I think... I think Kevin might be my favorite out of all of them because he's the only one who uses knives instead of firearms, and that invisibility is just too damn useful if you don't need any more blood and have no desire to fight.
Well, anyhoo, that plot FAQ has helped explained most of the cryptic writings within the extensive script. My head's still spinning... and I beat it about two weeks ago. Still, I highly recommend K7. The price is down around $30, which was low enough for me. Capcom certainly took their dear time (I think the game was first announced around 2003?), but it did not disappoint.
And one more thing: That Alter Ego chapter was damn fun. HANDSOME WINK! LOL

At 1st I really hated this game no free roaming scanning before shooting enemies , but then i got use to the controls(which makes the game go at much faster pace) enjoyed the weirdness( i usually dont like anything so post modern) the game had to offer, then finally saw the amazing storyline and plot sure its a real mix of genres but it feels very original , mucha kudos to capcom for that to bad the game didnt even sell well though in the usa i heard only
13000 games sold 1st month thats for gc the ps2 vesion sold 7000 I dont know if i got the numbers right myself but thats what i saw around the other game message boards , but I doubt there will be a sequel which sucks :/

The levels are designed for the rail system so it all comes together nicely. The only thing that pissed me off was when i went back to playing DMC after playing killer 7 and tried to make Dante move forward by press X. LOL
Really though i've never had a problem with the on rails approach. Of course i'm also a fan of games Like Myst so that might have something to do with it.
In the last year i've only bought 3 full priced games and truely thought that i had gotten my money's worth. MGS3, RE4 and K7. SO now that it's like $30 USD ($usually around $37 CAD at wallmart) Killer 7 is a fucking bargin. It's the kind of game you can't quite get out of your system. I still go back and play it just to see the Punishing Rangers, The Handsome Men and of course, the introduction of Ayame Blackburn which is the most memorable moment in gaming this year.
I just wish it didn't tell you how to solve the puzzles. Oh well gets you to Killer 8 mode fast and that one's a real bitch.

Indeed. Almost every character instantly dies if a Heaven Smile a splodes near them, and the fact that you can't see their weakspots is a pain beyond belief. That makes Poison Smiles a real freaking chore to deal with. In the beginning of the game, you practically have to rely on the reason why it's called Killer 8 instead of 7. He's damn powerful if I do say so myself.
And yes, Ayame's introduction is incredible. It's just so uncharacteristic with the rest of the mood! Encounter is probably my favorite chapter out of all of them, just because the scenarios are awesome and innovative, and although the game doesn't emphasize too much on bosses, the first meeting with Ayame will make you very thankful that you don't encounter more bosses! What a speedy little bitch! I highly recommend using Mask and firing at the base of whatever streetlight she passes under. And I wish I had a house as nice as Curtis Blackburn... he probably killed a LOT of people to afford it.

Screw Mask, i had too much trouble hitting her. I just wait for her to enter the light and then i unload with Con. Although you'll get easily raped by her bullets in Killer 8 mode so i use Young Harman then.
As for Curtis well, he probably would've killed a lot of people even if he didn't have to pay for that sweet house. And hey isn't evil? I love his answer to the "where's my daughter?" question.

A. I tried Con, but I just couldn't get the accuracy right, despite his high rate of fire. Mask somehow worked best for me. The second encounter was easier, though. I could use pretty much anyone.
B. Jeezus... Curtis was SO evil that I was glad to see Dan totally pwn him. Scum such as he don't deserve to live. Though, he actually wanted to die, it would seem... Killer 7 should just be a euthanasia service instead. :P

Well, I just picked this up from the $10 sale at TRU and all I can really say is... what the fuck?
I honestly have no idea what I'm doing, whats going on, or what to do. I basically was just running, killing guys, and when I got to a part that seemed strange (like the candle part 'insufficent flame?') I just ran right on past it. I only played it for probably 30 minutes, but I managed to get one of my charaters killed. I really dont know how I feel about this one, its just... out there, and not neccecarily in a good way. Maybe if I put some more time into it.
EDIT
This should probably be moved to the modern forum, no?
