To play as Richter in Symphony of the night do you have to beat the game, as in beating Richter in the first castle or beat the game as in beating dracula in the inverted castle? I've beaten dracula before, but on this memory card I only have a file after getting the first ending. I tried to play as Richter and they still gave me Alucard. Do I need to go back and beat dracula again or am I doing something else wrong?

All I remember was you had to beat the game and start a new one under the name "Richter". I don't think you need to beat the second castle or Dracula.

hmmm... what your'e saying to do seems to be the right thing to do. I've checked a bunch of sites and they all say to just start a file as Richter and nothing more, but they're still making me play as Alucard. :(

Yeah I was under the impression that you didn't need to beat the game at all, but I could be wrong on that.

Are you sure there are no symbols or caps req. on the spelling of his name? Like **Richter** or something?

you have to get at least 170% to be able to play as richter (in other words you need to get to the inverted castle )

180% actually, then you can play as Richter. Just save your game, go back to the menu, enter your name as RICHTER and you should be good to go.

Which reminds me, I still cannot defeat the Lighting giant in Reverse side of the Catacombs when playing as Richter...

Try and find an item known as the Beryl Circlet. Wear that to absorb his lightning attacks. It rather helps. ;)

Richter can't use accesories...just sub weapons and his whip

Do you have start the file over the one with 180% or can you start a completely new one? I don't mean to beat a dead horse here but I have 189% in the inverted castle and I keep starting a separate file, naming it richter and I still start the game as Alucard(after beating dracula as Richter,of course).

I always did it under a different file. I wonder why it isn't working for you? Have you tried the luck ring code too to see if that worked?

To beat that giant boss with Richter, or at least the easier way, get the dagger and position yourself on those ledges on either side of the room and spam the item crash. The flurry of daggers that come out will hit his head and cause massive damage. Just move out of there once he gets to close and repat from other side.

>_<

I can't believe I somehow missed the friggin' "with Richter" part! GAH! I apologize for coming off as a considerable tard. When I typed that previous post, I had just awoken from a rough night of sleep that only accumulated about three hours... sorry. :embarrassed:

Anyway... with Richter, I personally favor the item crash of the Holy Water for results. Utilize his down-up uppercut jump if necessary to avoid those freaking black spheres which suck so much.

Incorrect, Blitzwing265 was right, you need at least 170% completion to allow play as Richter. Then you want to begin a new file and name your character "RICHTER" (it will flash this at the name screen down in the status area)

I tried the luck code to check things out and it worked just fine. So I give up, I guess I need another copy if I want to play as Richter.

Don't be a fool. If that cheat worked there's no reason why you can't be Richter if you follow the instructions already given.

Very usefull thread, I didn't know you can play as Richter. I'm sure I have a save with over 180% because I've finished both castles. Maybe finish the game as Richter might be a project for my holiday next week (when the weather is bad or something...).

I have a file saved with 189%.
I have tried 3 or 4 times to start a new file, name it Richter(spelled correctly) and then proceed to play the first scene where Richter kills Dracula, then watch the cutscene which tells the story that cannot be skipped and I still end up as Alucard. This sounds as odd to me as it does to you guys but I really don't think it is my fault.

are you sure that it's not because you have to spell RICHTER with all caps or not?

The game only gives you the option of caps.

So you did create a new save file for Richter? Because you're not suppose to fight Dracula (then again it's been a while since I played the game...)...you just end up at the beginning of Castle with just Richter...

Yes, that's right. You go straight into the action.

So what I'd do is finish the game from your old save, sit through all the credits, then afterward do the name thing when the game restarts.

Remember Symphony's quick restart is hold select, then start.

If you're really desperate and you've got extra cash, the Saturn version lets you play as either Richter or Maria from the get-go. :D

Thank you very much. I finally got it to work by doing this. :D I never knew about that quick restart before but it worked just fine.

Good, I'm glad this is resolved.

Always surprising that nobody knows about the easy way to reset, it's even in the manual you know.

How is the Maria game in the Saturn SotN compared to the Richter and Alucard games anyways?

Somewhat overpowered, depending on how what powers of hers you decide to use. Let's say for fighting that giant boss, that people have problems with when using Richter, is much easier with Maria. Just do the command for her invincibilty move and repeat as it runs out. Due to this move it's easy for her to get across that blacked out castle area. Richters holy ash crash invincibilty doesn't last near as long as Maria's invincibilty move.
