Awesome, very impressive. So far, my favourite bits are climbing up Whomps Fortress and getting 13 seconds on Peach's slide.

There are some glitches I never knew about before. I was really impressed with the rabbit trick - it's just like the old Easter Egg from Adventure. You can't help but be impressed, although I can only imagine how long it took this person to figure out all these tricks.

That's helped me get so much further in the game. It's like a quick view walkthrough. I'm not much good at working things out for myself.

Amazing I knew a couple of his tricks but damn the Back long jump I never saw that coming. I also love watching the one up try to catch up to mario.

I saw that before. That was very impressive.

Holy crap, I thought I was pretty damn good at the game, but this guy is a GOD! Every minute or so he was doing crap I NEVER woulda thought about doing. The rabbit trick was most impressive. I knew you could find a glitch to carry it around but I never thought you could use it to get past locked doors. And the stair glitch trick literally made me shout out "WHAT THE F**K??!?!"

Better go practice. LOL

Wow. I can't even the beat the damn thing going at a normal pace. Then again, I never did care for the game, but this is something special. That takes a tons of skill to do. I'd certainly argue it's a more impressive run than the 2-D Mario ones we've seen.

really cool, i love watching speed runs. this one seems like it took a lot of practice, the jumps seem to be very precise.

I heard about this video a few days ago, but gawdamn. That's good stuff.

Damn, I love speed runs, but DAAAAAAMN, do I love this one.

What the fuck is up with that backwards stairs bum-jump thing? WTF?!

Beating the game with 16 stars...priceless. I bet he could have shaved at least a minute off of that too.

I've never played mario 64 (but I've trying to get a copy for cheap) - how long does it normally take to beat if you're just going through at regular pace - 2 or 3 hours?

Seconded. How on earth is he doing that?

suprisingly he only had a few minor mitakes (like getting in the princess peach window, and a few little bumbs here and there) so yea a minute seems right.

I wonder how long it took him to find out which stars are the fastest to get, or how to do those glitches @_@

Very impressive, especialy the final bowser level (before he fights bowser).

Um, I'd say more like 10 hours if you know what you're doing.

Probably 15-20 if you go for everything, and know what youre doing.

That was definitely fun to watch.

Any info on the actual run? Like if Twin Galaxies accepts it as a record? Or would that rabbit trick be disallowed by them?

Holy crap! This one is even faster!!!!!
This guy beats him by like a minute or so if you count them as starting at the same point. Has him beaten either way.

http://speeddemosarchive.com/Mario64.html#16

And that can STILL probably be beaten by a minute or so. This guy pulls a couple of extra tricks out of his sleave and perfects in places where the other guy messes up.

That was friggin' amazing. I could barely beat the last Bowser in 20 minutes, let alone the whole game. @_@

man that was hard to even watch it was so intense, Dang how did he do that backwards run?

shalashaska
07-11-2005, 07:04 PM
I've only been able to do the jump on Peach's slide once, after about 50 tries, and he did it twice in a row. LOL

Truly amazing! I am somewhat confused though. I thought you had to have 70 stars to fight bowser at the end, am I wrong or did this guy do something to bypass that?
Also, how the hell do you do that backward stars thing?
I thought I was pretty good at this game, but compared to this guy I am nothing. @_@

pssh I could probably do that

If I remember correctly, he somehow jumped through the door at the stairway area to get up there. When I was watching, I remembered seeing a message pop up, and he bypassed it and went right up the stairway doing the backwards jump thing.

Damn excellent video, and very impressive.

Damn, some of these speedruns are UNREAL! Of course the time attacks aren't real at all, but those speedruns....wow.

I would guess that the speedrun was a compilation of a bunch of the fastest times he could get on levels, spliced together on the save screens. If I recall correctly, SMB3's speed run was like that.

Not that it makes it any less impressive, but I really doubt that was one guy going straight for 20 minutes. If it was... even more wow!

Cmosfm
07-12-2005, 02:36 PM
That....was.... O_O

Even if it was using savestates, it's still the most amazing thing I've ever seen, even more so than the SMB3 speedrun.

How do you view the movie? It won't work for me.

Anyone have a saveable version?

Holy CRAP. I honestly thought it would never be done anywhere near that fast. That's just an incredible vid, the jumping is perfect, the reflexes are perfect, he's even fast as hell getting all of those red coins! Very commendable!

What's next for this player though? Hopefully he has some kind of access to a social life, because perfecting this had to have taken a LONG time. He can afford to actually breathe air outdoors now...

Though these Mario runs could look more impressive with tool assistance, they're far more amazing than tool-assisted runs considering they're not using savestates or rerecording or anything like that. Simply incredible, really. :)

So you like speedruns and time attacks, you say?!?! YOU LIKE SPEEDRUNS AND TIME ATTACKS, YOU SAY!?! Well lookee what I found...(snip)
Linked below is the most impressive speed run I've ever seen... Tool-assisted, of course, but absolutely mindblowing to watch.

I certainly do say. Thanks! :)

I think publishers should try to get their hands on these things and promote them. Nothing makes me want to play Super Mario 64 *more* than seeing videos of people just totally mastering the game.

(I'm downloading the full 70 star version, and a Super Mario World run too, just for kicks. For whatever reason, nothing interests me more than Mario related runs at this point. Not even Zelda runs do).

THAT was pretty amazing! Anyone know if this time has been beaten yet? Awesome video. Thanks!

The whole jumping through walls glitch threw me for a loop. :eek 2:
