If Chainsaw_Charlie wishes to share his eBay/DP finds with us, then he is most welcome. A find is a find :)

What does the mail have to do with finds?why does it seem that some folks are dissing finds that come in the mail?whats the problem?if i bought a copy of,lets say, panzer dragoon saga, online for 50 cents, just because they mailed it to me it isnt a great find?finds are finds regardless if they were found online,or at a moldy, stinky thrift shop.

Yeah dude, but when does that ever happen? All these GREAT "finds" in the mail, are just trades with other DPers, or things bought for full price from eBay. People just use it as a chance to +1 post. Much like starting the finds thread when you have no finds to post.

Can't this thread be about newly aquired gaming stuff?
Whats wrong with telling people about their new game just because they didn't come across it in the wild?

I guess I just see this thread as a place to show off really sweet finds. Finding some rare game or a lot of games for a cheap price from a flea market or thrift store or whatever. To me, finding a NES with 20 games for $10 at a yard sale is a find. Paying $10 plus shipping for Super Metroid on eBay = :-_-:. I just don't see what is so interesting about seeing what blah games someone got for full price at EBGames or GameStop. How is that a 'find'?

I'm not trying to be a stick i the mud, although I seem to be referred to as such on a regular basis. I just think that this thread is meant more for exceptionaal finds. Great deals. Shoot, I find stuff every week but I don't post it in here unless it's really something awesome. Just seems to me like some people are looking for an excuse to post.

I'm sure that I'm going to get torn a new rear port for this, so lets hear it.

What about trades? What about people who seem to list non-video game items in these finds thread? What do you classify a find - value for money? Rare?

What about trades? What about people who seem to list non-video game items in these finds thread? What do you classify a find - value for money? Rare?

A new game is a new game. Period.

What about trades? They're not finds. A find is something that you actually, you know, go out and FIND. Almost every single one of us is getting new games through trades in the mail, eBay, or buying from fellow community members every single day. It's nothing special.

Perhaps this is an "old school" mentality from years back when people on classic gaming newsgroups and forums would post their exceptional finds from a weekend out hunting in the wild (in those days, we called them "Brags"). That's the really exciting stuff. I don't care what anyone else buys on eBay or trades for with someone else or whatever. I care about what really unique and interesting stuff is still sitting out there in someone's garage waiting for one of us to snap it up.

In my honest opinion, I think that "finds" threads have turned into "look at my new neat stuff" pissing contests. Heck, I bet that the stuff that I got in the mail today was more unique and worth seeing than what you got in the mail today, but I don't really think it's that big of a deal - anyone could have bought it on eBay or traded someone for it. Using eBay and trading doesn't make me special, and maybe I'm naive for it, but I don't think anyone really cares that I can use eBay and trade on a daily or weekly basis. But if I find something exceptional for a dollar (or pound, or euro, or yen, or whatever's in your pocket), then THAT is a find that I think someone probably cares to hear about.

In short, to directly answer your question, I classify a find as something FOUND in a non-eBay, non-trade, non-paying full price context that is special for either being a UNIQUE item or an exceptional value for the amount spent. Finding an Adventurevision in a junk shop is a find. Finding a box of 50 Atari games for $5 is a find. Receiving some NES games in the mail or buying a common Playstation game at the local game shop is NOT a find.

Ebay is the yard sale of the future as they say. A 24 hour yard sale. Sure it has been bad to the respect of price inflation but IF as you say someone found a good priced special item on ebay for a normal price I am all for hearing it.
For God's sake I have seen some of the most unique and interesting things on ebay. I would much rather see anyone's more pricey ebay find then someone's weekdn flea market find of WOWSA MY 50TH front loading nes with Mario bros for 3 bucks....I say bah to that too boring.

And I have just found somthing rare and dirt cheap off ebay yesterday...pics to come.

I think you are being way too critical of the whole situation.

Why does it matter if the person got the game from a flea market, Gamestop, Ebay or another DP member? He makes the post saying what he got and that's that.

I got Futurama Vol. 2,3, and 4 and Kill Bill vol 2 for $25 the other day. I could have posted about it, but I didn't, not because I got them at work, just because I didn't want to.

The whole argument here is trivial, now everyone post what they got. :)

I see it this way: if we limited these threads to just "physical finds," sooner or later I wouldn't be surprised to see someone starting threads solely about what people got in the mail. That being said, I think it's better to have both of those in one thread than two.

Arrived in the mail today:

Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (loose) - $6 shipped

Being a sports gamer, I've been disappointed over the last couple years of not being able to get the NCAA games up here in the Great White North due to a failure to renew the distribution licensing agreement since (iirc) 1998. And with Amazon.com not shipping to Canada, and EB Games charging $16 shipping on even a single game!! we've usually had to resort to ebay or wait long enough for used copies to surface.

Well today I "found" that Amazon.ca was actually offering NCAA Football 06 (Xbox) for sale on their site, so I pre-ordered a copy at $49.99 CDN with free shipping. Considering the US price is also $49.99, I figured this was a good enough deal (yes, I know, sports games can be nabbed for about 25 cents and a slap in the head a handful of months later, but you can't rationalize that fact with sports gamers. :)).

Well, I thought that the RC Pro-Am II for NES that I got for $4.99 was going to be my find of the week, or better yet, the best thing I found in the last month. Boy was I wrong. Tonight wrapped up my best video game hunt in months. I went to 3 places and spent a total of about $100.00 and got some very good stuff:

Stop #1 - Used game store. NES Konami LaserScope boxed with all pieces and manual, styrofoam, etc. for $19.99. 50 NES manuals ($2.00), Sword Of Vermillion Strat. Guide (Free), NES Zinger (I wanted this for a long time) for $2.99, and Buck Rogers (Genesis) ($4.99). First the manuals "went with the games in the cabinet", then they became "a dime a manual", then it was "I'll hook you up with them all for 2 bucks". Stop 1 Total Spent: $27.00 USD.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/bizbizjohn/IMG_2710.jpg

Stop #2 - Used game store. This place pisses me off, because they have a ton of rare Genesis games that I need, but they have display boxes in the store (the original boxes), but won't give you them with the game because they have "multiple copies in back and need to re-use them." Well, anyways, I skipped Syd Of Valis and Granada for B.O.B. and Toki, both of which are RARE SHIT in my book for a total of $10.00 USD spent.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/bizbizjohn/IMG_2711.jpg

I wasn't satisfied. 1 thrift store with no luck and and an hour later, I saw an old video rental that I was once in and they had a bunch of shit. I figured I would go back in and look around. To my dismay, the owner began to make deals with me. First I worked him on his Genesis stuff, of which he has 100's of games, but I ended up getting WarpSpeed, King's Bounty, Earnest Evans, and Gaiares all CIB for $30.00. Then, I got my second copy of Zero The Kamikaze Squirrel in 1 week. This time, it was CIB and the box is very close to being mint. That cost me $10.00. So I knew the guy was pulling shit prices out of his ass and just wanted to make some money. Low and behold, a box full of Genesis manuals, 200-300 in all. None perfect mint, most avg-good. I was pissed because I have over 700 already and I want NES manuals!!! Well, then my wish came true and my jaws dropped. A box behind the counter with 100's and 100's of NES manuals. I was nervous he wouldn't sell them or try to dupe me since he knew I was a collector. First, he says, "a buck a piece". Then I say, "How much for the whole box?" and he responds, "Well, there's over a 100, so I'll do 30 dollars, that is about 33 cents a booklet". DONE DEAL.. I got them all, and there is more like 200 in the box. I haven't even gone thru it yet I am so freaking excited. All I know is that it Bomberman 2 and Zen are in it. Not a bunch of shit from what I can see. So, this place cost me $70.00 cash, he gave the deal because I paid cash and didn't use a credit card. Whatever makes the merry go round, go round, fine with me.

Total spent on this venture: 100 dollars.

I will trade Zero Kamikaze Squirrel if anyone is interested. You probably all know I am after NES unlicensed's that I still need.

Didn't get a chance to post my weekend finds, so I'll include them here.

On Sunday, I was in a suburb about 20-25 minutes north of the city and decided to check out the used game stores there.

For $5:
NES - Archon (w/ manual)
NES - Stealth ATF (w/ manual)
GEN - Forgotten Worlds (loose)
SNES - Brandish (loose)
SNES - Sunset Riders (loose)

For $12:
NES - Adventures of Bayou Billy (complete)
SNES - Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (loose)
SNES - Phalanx (complete) - How can you pass up that box art?

For $9:
GEN - Flicky (loose)
GEN - Mercs (w/ box)
PSX - Syphon Filter 2 (complete, non-GH)

$14: GBA - Jet Grind Radio (complete)
$5: GEN - Batman: The Video Game (loose)
$5: SNES - Wanderers from Ys III (loose)
$10 SNES - Metal Marines (loose)
$5 NES - Ultima: Exodus (loose) (and then the next morning, EBGames.com has it in stock for $2 before coupons :P )

Today I hit up three thrift stores and found these (each was $2):
NES - Legend of Zelda, The (loose)
NES - Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (loose)
NES - Milon's Secret Castle (loose)
GEN - Spot Goes Hollywood (complete)

Passed up a great condition NES Advantage for $3. I already have two (though one is the one I've had and played with since forever, so its condition isn't the best).

All from the flea market on Tuesday (finally cool enough to turn my computer on today)...

Dreamcast: ($15)
Console (Sept 1999 machine)
2 licensed controllers
Green VMU
2 controller extensions
Soul Calibur (loose)
Power + AV cable

Game & Watch: ($1)
Mario's Cement Factory widescreen in box. The box looks like it has chicken pox - seems to have been in a very humid climate, in other words it's ruined. The foam tray insert is fine and the game itself is in perfect condition. I do, however need to order a replacement battery door. Can't beat it for a buck though. No instructions, sadly, but the original price sticker of $24.95 was inside the box as well. LOL

SNES:
Chavez II

N64:
Blitz Special Edition
Crusin' Exotica
Rayman 2
Razor Freestyle Scooter

PS2:
Frequency
Sphynx and the Cursed Mummy

Xbox:
Panzer Dragoon Orta

Saturn:
Duke Nukem 3D

It's sad that I'm slowly collecting Xbox games but I've yet to get an actual Xbox. Maybe if I quit buying so many games then I'd be able to afford one. Right now I'm just trying to pick up all the games I want for it while they're still available :( Next up: Oddworld Strangers Wrath, Otogi I and II, Deathrow, and Breakdown!

Going to need to rebuy Duke Nukem 64 and Duke Nukem for Playstation sometime soon so that I can make a comparison video showing how each port turned out. I've still got it on game.com, but I'll be damned if I EVER fire that up again.

Somebody shoot me for picking up a no manual Evander Holyfield and Desert Strike (this one with worn manual) on the Genesis. On the plus side, though, I didn't have those games yet.

Now, onto my amazing find.

I FOUND A MACINTOSH TV! Sure, I paid $69.99 for it at Goodwill (ergh), but it had the black keyboard, mouse, and even a modem.

There were only TEN THOUSAND of these made. hoo boy, that makes me happy :D

Went to do some shipping today and hit two places and picked up:

PSX - Grandia (complete) - 10
CD - Butthole Surfers - Electriclarryland - 5

Atari 800xl Computer w/ Frogger cart - 3

It seems my turbo duo a/v cable fits the monitor port just fine, so I'm gonna try hooking it up to my C64 monitor tonight! I also got a ton of my original carts and a ton of diskettes so I'll have to pull those down from the bin they're in, which is gonna be a bitch cause of all the stuff in the way =\.

Yesterday, I picked up Zelda, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, and Milon's Secret castle for $2 a piece at the thrift store.

Today, I stopped by cd/games/movie exchange by work and picked up NES Uncharted Waters, Mega Man X, and Super Metroid for $10 (probably should have gotten NES Genghis Khan instead of Super Metroid, but oh well) and Mega Man X6 for $6.

I got real excited when I went to that store as it seemed somewhat had traded in every Mega Man game. The PS2 shelf has X7, X8, and Command Mission. Then I looked at the PS1 games and saw X4, X5, and X6. I then checked out the NES games and found Mega Man 1, 2, 3, 4, and... that was it. No 5 or 6. In the SNES section, there were two copies of Mega Man X, but no 7, X2, or X3. So, none of the rare games (or Misadventures of Tron Bonne). Pity.
