I started playing Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits over the weekend.
In this game, there are 2 races who used to live in peace, but were divided over the need for a common resource.
You play this game in 2 parts, as halfling brothers, one appears human, the other, deimos (the other race). Both share a common birthmark that looks like a tribal tattoo.

I'm sure we will eventually join forces to defeat a common foe and reunite the world or something and that got me to thinking about other hackneyed storylines.

What are some of your favorites?

The next post should contain something about ninjas and the President and/or your girlfriend.

I am smack in the middle of playing this one myself. Actually I'm almost at the end but at any rate. I like the fact that the 2 storylines are STILL seperate even towards the end, although I'm sure as you said, that they'll end up together blah blah blah, it's stayed pretty consistent so far. Not too many RPG's let you control 2 completely different non-intermingling parties. In fact the only other one I can think of would be DW4 that did it like this.

But more on topic. The biggest RPG story cliche EVER, BAR NONE..... You HAVE to be an orphan. Or at least only have one surviving parent. I would bet a fair amount that we can't come up with 10 RPG or RPG/action games (hell, ANY game) where the main char actually has 2 married parents that you see at some point in the game, that did not get kidnapped or turn evil. Just normal friggin parents.
