View Full Version : Why do I have to slam my n64 games into the system?

I've got 2 n64 systems and I have to slam each cart into the system for it to play. Is this because of the system, the cart, or both? I'm thinking it's more of the system because the gold connectors seem to be in great condition on the cart.
I tried to buy an n64 that wasn't used that much thinking it would better, but it really isn't.
I've tried cleaning them, but this hasn't helped much - although I have yet to buy an actual cleaning kit. Will this help my problem or should I just keep buying n64s until I get one that works.

Upon testing, its kinda tough, but not unlike any other cart-based console. I suggest you blow hard on th cart, then hard inside the flaps. Look in th flaps udner a ligh to make sure there is nothing is the connectors.

Blowing is bad, mmmkay? :) Or so I've heard...
Seriously though, maybe slamming the carts into the system in the first place is causing problems. Perhaps something in the cart slot is getting bent by slamming the games in there? Can you insert the carts by just pushing them in there, gently but firmly?

I have that problem with my N64, too. I keep a large hammer near my console, and when I put in a new game, I shove it in as hard as possible then I hammer directly on the top-center of the cart. Then I turn the system on. I always give the cart a few wacks when I'm playing. When the cart finally shatters, I throw it the hell away.

Of course I didn't start out by slamming it into the system. Putting it in gently or with little force works sometimes, but most of the time I align the cart up in the slot and then push my hand on it really hard.
I know I'm not the only one because when I'm looking for yet another n64 on eBay people will often write that they have to push the cart in really hard to get it to play, but once it does it works perfectly fine (as it does for me).

I bought a used one...
Never had to slam it in, nor when I was a kid and I bought it new. Just slides right in, powers up and starts pump-- er
Yeah my systems all work fine.

I've been through 4 or 5 N64s (not breaking them, but selling them off), and I've never encountered that problem. I've never even heard of it before. o_O
I do, however, have to shove NES games into my top-loader kind of forcefully, and likewise, it takes a strong tug (usually with the other hand on top of the console) to remove them. The slot is just really tight. O_o (Yes, I realize that sounds kind of perverted.)

buy an actual cleaning kit....Or really give the carts and systems connectors a good cleaning using other methods.
I have several n64 systems and I don't have to slam carts in them because I know how to clean them..
Everytime I get one out of flea markets or..they work great after cleaning them..
If anything is wrong wit flea market n64s it's a bad power supplies or removed jumper packs
