I saw the article and am not really familiar with the situation. However these are also the people that exterminated stray animals like they were going for high score on duck hunt before they hosted the Olympics. I suspect it aimed more at gambling than say platformer vg's but there is certainly enough to be spooky.

The article is 3 years old, the ban has been lifted a long time ago already from what I know. And yes, it aimed at gambling :)

I totally remember this story, because just before it came about I was actually in Greece for my honeymoon, and of course brought my GBC with me (and the recently released Zelda games :) ) and thought it was funny.

The whole idea, for them, was to ban portable gambling devices. Apparantly it's a huge underground economy thing there and they thought this was a way to stop it. Luckily they changed their minds for all of us :)

I wonder why this is resurfacing after all these years? o_O

Anyway, what bugged me the most about it was not that they banned games (which I knew was going to lifted in no time once they saw the error of their ways) but the fact that gamers used it as an excuse to trash Greece, as if the whole country made the law or as if our politicians are any less stupid.
