Anyone know of a site where you can download or stream video game music for free? I'd like to have some castlevania or chrono trigger tunes on my computer, though I really don't care enough to buy game soundtracks or anything.

www.vgmix.com is an excellent fan arrangement site as well, with a fair amount of exclusive content over OCRemix (overall, I think VGMix has a high quality selection of music, unless you're really crazy for generic trance/techno).
There's also Chudah's radio station, just check out that MASSIVE list of soundtracks the music is taken from:

If you know how to surf the binary newsgroups, check out alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.video-games. New stuff is posted there every day and right now they have Vampire Hunter D, Y's, Tales Of Destiny, Eternal Darkness and a bunch of old Atari arcade soundtracks posted there, free for the taking.

If those are direct soundtrack mp3 rips, they'd be illegal, though. I mean, yeah, the topic creator just asked for "free" not "legal", but by that logic, anything in existence could be "free". :P

I check there often. They usually have about 20 or so MP3s for download on the music page. New ones every week and if you want to see something specific, register in the forums and request it.

I always figured SPC [for SNES] format is great. It sounds very real and isn't nearly as big as MP3.
