View Full Version : Long forgotten gaming franchises...

What gaming franchises have developers just abandoned for no apparent reason? What games would make a great comeback with new sequels?

Powerstone - Capcom seems to have abandoned this altogether, despite the fact that it would work really well on the current consoles. Powerstone III would also be great as an online game, with upto 8 players simultaniously!

Parasite Eve - A great franchise, and Parasite Eve II is a sure Resident Evil beater - So why has Square abandoned it? Surely they could expand on the whole concept and come up with a new storyline...

Perhaps have a story where some cop get's dragged into the whole Mitochondria thing, and has to enlist the help of Aya Brea to defeat a new threat...

Streets Of Rage - Why have they never done a SOR4? I'm sure after doing Shenmue, they could come up with a similar SOR game (And no, Spikeout Battle Street is not a worthy substitute - It's just not the same unless it's SOR)

Gunbird - No Gunbird III? Why ever not? THe first two were such great Shumps, so why not a new instalment?

I'm sure there are many other franchises which could benefit from being brought into the 21st century in much the same way as games like OutRun have recently been, or have further much-needed sequels...

I'm sure a lot of people here would clamour for a new Kid Icarus game...

Too true. I am very surprised that they haven't yet made a sequel, or updated the original for the GBA - Same as what they did for Metroid...

BTW - Your avatar reminds me that after a long wait, the PSP has finally gotten a Darkstalkers sequel - However, i'd love to see a Legacy Of Kain crossed with DOA style game featuring Morrigan & Lileth... Heh heh!

Kid Icarus was actually the first game that came to mind when I saw this thread. Another one that comes to mind golden axe. And I know they did Shinobi on the ps2 but i'd like to see a return to the old shinobi 2d gameplay on the gba or ds.

I would love to see Mutant League Football brought back. I loved the game on Genesis and even enjoyed the cartoon for it. I doubt I'll get my wish though.

when sega lost their NFL license, i thought that they couldve cashed in at least one more time with their engine and create a Football of the Dead

Yeah, Gubird had some solid Strikers 1945 style gameplay. I'm sure Psikyo would have eventually made a 3rd installment. Theres just one problem. Psikyo is no more. I think back in 2002 they disbanded and wen't on to different companies. Same with Raizing. I considered those two companies as well as Cave to be the big three of shmups. Only Cave is still around (and some good news about them, alot of Raizing employees joind up with Cave!).

my friend actually wrote a letter to Sega of America saying "Why wasn't there a Mutant League Baseball made, it just seems to me that the whole Mutant League series was very fun and that the theme of a mutant league could very well be applied to a baseball game."

I was going to suggest that, but then bad memories of EWJ 3D on the PS1 and EWJ 64 sprung to mind - I think those two games actually did more harm than good.

I liked Mutant League Football, but I much preferred Brutal Sports Football on the Jaguar as it was even more fun, and even more gory! Plus has heaps more game play!

I think they should've done Mutant League English Football (Soccer) or even Mutant League Vollyball! Even Hockey could've worked - Why did they not milk this franchise???

Wish granted! Check out "The Revenge of Shinobi" for GBA. Its not a port of the Genesis game, just all new Shinobi style in 2D.

I'm waiting for Capcom to make another Mega Man Battle Network. Its been like 2 weeks since the last one, how long can they expect us to wait?

Seriously, I'd like to see another Battletoads game. Think Dynasty Warriors with wacky mutant reptiles. Maybe Eternal Champions because I do think it had excellent character design. Of course, neither of these would ever happen, so I won't hold my breath.

Battletoads

Gex

Wonderboy

Alex the Kidd

Pocket Fighter (It needed a sequel I thought)

Ghouls N Ghosts (with Arthur...Maximo is awesome, but I want Arthur back)

Gargoyle's Quest for the love of god!! Bring back Firebrand!

Donkey Kong Country, a real sequel...after 3...they just ignored it

Killer Instinct

CastleVania (after Chronicles, it's been RPG after RPG clone, I want my original platformer)

Art of Fighting, after 3, I wondered why SNK stopped

World Heroes, Okay this is arguable, but I would still like to see a return

MediEvil (Thank god PSP is bringing this game back from the dead)

Sim City (Sure the PC game kept going, but never saw a sequel as good as the original SNES game, yet there was Sim City 2000 on GBA, PS1, and Saturn)

Taito's Renegade <-- SMS verison rocks but I know the NES verison is still solid

Jackal <--- Only Konami game that I remember well to this day

Blaster Master <--- I need to find the PS1 game, but people tell me to stay away from it...

Fester's Quest <--- we need another Addams Family game that was this good....or heck, make a Beverly Hillbilly Game with the same gameplay elements LOL It'll still rock!

They did have a mutant league hockey. That was just as much fun as the football. It had sharks under the ice as well as holes in the ice to fall into. This is a series they should continue especially as mentioned above with game companies getting exclusives on respective sports that makes sense.

Square Enix needs to bring back Actraiser for PS2 or maybe PS3 should they decide to develop for PS3. One night while in the shower I was brainstorming such a thing.

splatter house needs to make a return, imagine it gore soaked walls, screeching zombies, babies with meet hooks through their necks all in glorious 3-d, allthough the mask should belong to a new hero

sunset riders, cowboy shooters can be cool if done by the right company

capcoms dungeons and dragons, come on seriously they could do something hardcore with this with current technologies (or maybe even port the cps2 game to the GBA)

This would be the perfect time for something like this. Too bad EA has the NFL and Mutant League licences!

i was whining about parasite eve a few months ago. looks like an american movie and remake of the original game are no longer developmental ideas.

on that, rant time:

PORT MISTER MOSQUITO 2 AND DISASTER REPORT 2, GODDAMNIT!

A new Street Fighter would be nice instead of Super Special Turbo Street Fighter 3 Hyper Alpha Gold Champion Edition vs Marvel vs X-Men Vs My Grandma

How about Pandemonium?

I'd live to see another Battle Arena Toshinden myself, though I know most prople don't respect the series nowadays.

Fighting Vipers would be nice, too.

Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts 'n Goblins anyone? I don't count Maximo.
