Do Doki Doki PAnic and Super Mario 2 (US) share the same music?

yes

You are correct

Most of it, yes. The music is different when you enter those doors after opening a potion. Instead of Mario music, it's Middle Eastern sounding. Some sound effects are better in DDP as well.

There's some other new songs in DDP, as well, like the title screen/intro movie. Are the sounds really better in DDP? I wouldn't doubt it, but they come across all screwy in the emulator I'm using. I was wondering if that was just an emulation problem.

In general, though, Super Mario 2 is actually better than DDP. DDP has pretty crappy animation for most of the lead characters. The albatrosses in the US version also have MANY more frames of animation--the disk version gives them only 2 frames, making it look jerky and strange. The slot machine scenes are way more interesting in the US version, too.

Well, most are the same but some sounds in DDP when you hit an enemy sound more like a voice. To me, it sounds a bit more advanced than SMB2's although it's a pretty minor thing compared to other changes.

This is probably due to the extyra sound channel in the FDS...well, at least that's my guess.

I remember seeing a site that listed all the differences between the two games...wish I could remember where it was...some SMB shrine of some sort...

It is. A number of sound effects that made the jump from DDP to SMB 2 were in fact down-sampled from the FDS' FM chip.

another noticeable difference is the lack of a run button in Doki Doki

The DDP in-level music seems to be less full, and they loop before the SMB2 ones do. Also, the underground music is faster in DDP. One more thing, the credits music in SMB2 has some similarity to the beginning of DDP's title screen music.

Don't use MegaUpload. It may be the newest craze, but it does NOT work on all browsers. It's a POS. There are many better alternatives.

well, if people would download Mozilla Firefox, they wouldnt have problems with megaupload. not to sound like a prick, but i hate when people are too lazy to fix a problem on their computer to get something working properly.

here a rapidshare link: http://rapidshare.de/files/3093980/Doki_Doki_Panic.nes.html

but thats the only other site ill use. i tried yousendit but all it does it take forever then send me to a "page cannot be displayed" page

I hate to sound like a prick too, but not everyone wants to use FireFox. I prefer Safari. I already have FireFox, but I'm tired of webmasters being too lazy to test their sites on other browsers. (I've sent a polite bug report to their webmaster.)

BTW, the problem Safari has with MegaUpload is that that it sits there with the "Retrieving File Details..." message forever and doesn't do a damn thing more. That's just plain lazy programming. But to be "fair", it's not MegaUpload's fault. Most file sharing sites suck. But Rapid did not this time, thanks for the file. I never saw that one before. Just the original SMB2 and the FDS version of DDP.

Also, I don't appreciate being called lazy. I prefer the term "Motivationally challenged". ;)

lol. i actually wasn't calling you lazy. i was just reffering to people in general who are too lazy to fix something in order to get it working. i personally enjoy firefox but im not gonna try and shove it down peoples throats (because its a little hard to shove downloaded software down one's throat), but intstead just let people try it.

Really? So no running et all eh?

Jasoco

Correct. Running is actually a "Mario" feature. Before Mario, all characters moved the same speed, or in the case of Sonic, picked up speed as they went, or some other way of going faster without using a "modifier" if you will. So no, Doki-Doki has no run button because of this. It was added when it became SMB2 to make it Mario-like.

Personally, I can't play a Mario game without holding run constantly. Every Mario game I'm always running. I can't walk.
