I think DOOM will probably be better than the other video game based movies but i could be wrong because the director of DOOM directed cradle to the grave which was a horrible movie. The Rock is not that good of an actor but in doom theres not alot of talking and its and action film. Again I think DOOM will be a decent movie, so free to post your opinions

I have to say that I’m not too optimistic about this one. Most videogames receive bad movie conversions for some reason. Like stated above, there’s not much of a plot here to work with, the will really have to write a completely new plot loosely based on the game (I guess using the game as a setting).

You sir, should be shot. :P Ok maybe not shot, but at least educated on the subject at hand.

First of all there is no way in the deepest depths of DOOM's hell that DOOM can top the greatest videogame adaptation ever, Mortal Kombat and there is a reason for this.

DOOM the movie, has little in plot to do with DOOM the game. EXAMPLE: Here's the plot outline from IMDB:

When a Special Ops squadron answers a distress call from a science lab on the planet Olduvai, their investigation reveals that a series of mutant beings are systematically killing off the population there..

Does that sound like DOOM to you? Or more like a bastardized attemp to cash in on a name. I know the games didn't have much in the way of a story, but it did have one. The books capitalized on this and told a very compeling tale. However that's all been ignored. People it's gonna be RE all over again. Now i'm not saying that it's going to be an unwatchable cinematic abortion like Alone in the Dark (although it probably will be bad), no i'm saying that it'll be a bad movie for us.

If you know anything about DOOM you'll be disappointed.

If you read the DOOM novels and loved them then you'll be disappointed.

If you're a guy like me who loaths bastards who ruin video game adaptations, then you'll be pissed.

If you're a DOOM zealot, then you'll most likely commit suicide.

DOOM had potential, but it looks like the story's been shat on. Everything i've seen and everything i've read just keep confirming everything i feared. The only good thing about DOOM is that Uwe Boll's perverse hands haven't touched it.

I'm actually kind of hopeful for this one. First off, I always hated the Rock before, but after seeing him in a few of his films, I realize he is pretty good as far as action stars go. Think about it, our current generation of action film starts is pretty slim pickings. Its not like I can think of anybody better to bring the emotional complexity and pathos of "space marine" to the silver screen. No Ewe Boll in sight, so thats another thumbs up. Granted, I'd be happier seeing demons in space that mutants in space, but the difference is somewhat cosmetic. The Resident Evil films turned out ok and I was sure they would reek. I'm holding out hope until I see a trailer.

I don't have very high hopes for this one. Videogame movies have never really been very good. I will be going to see it though. Maybe Doom will be the exception rather than the rule, but I doubt it.

Doom the movie is going to suck simply because they took the doom out of the doom movie. There are more then one petitions to get the movie cancelled, if that's an idea for you. They're not demons, they're aliens, it's on earth, not mars or a moon of mars, there is nothing involving hell, and people play the cyberdemon.

It'll be bad, I think most everyone can agree. Just, how bad?

Still, the phenomenon is that people will still go see it out of curiosity, ala FF: Spirits Within. Then the slamming begins.

Oh lord, those Doom novels were horrible.

On a tangent, the writing (and pieces of the storyline) in Metroid Fusion reminded me a lot of the Doom books (that's not a good thing, especially when the story is force fed to you) and when I beat the game I actually checked to see if it was the same writer. Sadly, it wasn't...which means that there's more than one assclown out there getting paid to rape classic franchises with piss poor writing. Oh nos :(

The Doom movie might actually be good. The original games had paper thin storyline and they tried to do a faithful adaptation when they did the comic book (http://www.doomworld.com/10years/doomcomic/comic.php). Yea, that didn't work out too well. Scrapping pretty much everything other than the "demons from hell!" bit is probably the best thing they could do.

If they keep anything from the books in the movie script, I think I'll cry. When I finished chucking through those I had hoped that it'd be the last I ever saw of them :(

When it comes to videogame -> movie adaptations, I still think Double Dragon and Street Fighter are both still the best. They knew they were churning out crap when they made them and they just went all the way to 11 with both movies. Awesome cheese in store for anyone who checks out either one. Mortal Kombat was hindered by crappy direction for the fights (not a good thing when you're essentially making a mystical version of Enter the Dragon) and some really bad special effects.

Still, the worse is (and most likely always will be) Last Bronx (http://www.roushimsx.com/stoofoo/Last_Bronx_Front.jpg). If there's one movie I wish I could unwatch+unbuy, it's that one.

I challenge. Book 3 and 4 were terrible yes, but the First 2 novels had a good story. I didn't always like the narrative, and the switching prespectives in books 2,3,4 was annoying. But rather liked what they did with the story in the first two. They didn't rape the story, the movie company did.

Book 1 (Knee Deep in the Dead) and Book 2 (Hell on Earth) were very loyal to the games and i rather enjoyed them. It's a far superior to the "plot" of the movie.

just take the movie for what it is a movie with the doom name

don't take expectations in that o it has to follow the games at all or anything

it will be decent

the rock is a good actor for the roles he plays, i've enjoyed him and im sure he will be good in doom

it's a movie most movies don't follow anything other than the movie itself

so dont' complain that it's not following the game, it just has the same name doesn't mean it will be a bad movie just have to go into it with a open mind.

It simply CAN'T be as bad as Alone in the dark. That was just abysmal.
Having The Rock star pretty much condemns it to sucking a decent piece of ass.
Having the WORN OUT BS of "something has gone wrong and mutants are killing people on a sicentific research facility on planet X" just puts the nail in the coffin.

I don't suppose there is going to be a princess to save on the planet who ends up being a sister that The Rock never knew since he was an orphan?
