I've been playing my genesis with the rf switch since the early 90's and just recently found out that you can buy an a/v cable for it. For those of you who have one or have used one before, is it worth buying? Does it noticeably make the sound and picture better? Just wondering since I now have my snes and turbografx hooked up with a/v cables and it seems to make them quite a bit better.

I've never used RF on the Genny, wouldn't care to...A/V is (for me) crystal clear on a good sized TV (mine is 33") and well worth it.

Definitely. RF is the bane of gaming consoles.

The Genesis has some terrible composite out. Get it modded for S-video.

Composite out is definitely a marked improvement over RF out on the Genesis. If what GRG is saying is true, I'd love to see the Genny running in s-video mode.

Depends on the model. The Nomad has good/great, clear A/V output; the Genesis 3's is utter shit.

3/4 of the ways down I have Genny 1 AV cables. Some genesis Composite out is not reat, but all RF out is crap. Immediate improvements to video and expecially audio, when you leave RF behind.

OSG can also do Video mods for S-Video to Genesis consoles. http://www.oldschoolgamer.ca/information.aspx?SID=14
