Random Thoughts on Re-Sale Values in relation to video game items and collectables
When it comes to your various video game related purchases..... Do you ever think about the resale of the items that you are going to get?
Do you ever kick back and wonder what your collection is worth and how much you could get for your stuff if you had to sacrifice it?
Sometimes I think about it a little bit. I don't know, there is just this part of me, that feels like I have to get good money for my stuff when I part with it. I usually feel pretty good if I get 65 or 75 percent of what I paid for the item.
Obviously, when I buy a system on launch day, I know that I'm not going to get anywhere close to what I paid for it, because I most likely will just keep it forever.
But if I buy a old school retro system, or very expensive game, I do hope that if I ever have to part with it, I will get some decent cash back for it. I mean, certainly I'm hoping that my collection doesn't somehow just plummet in value.
It would suck to buy a used system for big bucks, and then all of a sudden the value plummets drastically, and you need to sell it for some reason. I'm not looking forward to that.
I definitely understand that this is a part of the game. I might get a modded, tricked out XBOX for big bucks, but then after the 360 has been out for awhile, I'm sure my tricked out XBOX 1 will slip pretty dramatically in value.
Of course one must remember that for the time that you had the item and used the item, that value, while not tangible physicallly, is still value to the end user that has to be factored in.
I have a very expensive collection of Die Hard GameFan magazines. Now some of these magazines are incredibly expensive. You might be shocked to how high the prices are for certain GameFan issues.
I wonder if I ever decide to part with my GameFan collection, will I get anywhere close to what I paid for them? Or will somebody be getting them from me for pennies on the dollar?
Not a biggie, I mean, I don't really sweat over this, but it was just something I was thinking about the other day.
