"Hey man! I'm going to the store to pick up Virtua Hampster today for my Sega 32X!"

"Awww, dude, didn't ya here man?"

"What? What?"

BLANK STARE

"Did Fredo died?!?!?"

"Naw man... cool yer jets dude. Fredo's installing that toilet outside for those construction workers."

"Oh thank god."

"Yeah, but honest man, didn't you hear? Virtual Hampster got CANCELLED."

*Drops to the ground

"NOOOOOOO!!!!!"

Yeah thats right, we've all been there. The game we were waiting months upon months upon years and days for was taken off life support and the fat lady sang. Yeah, we might have went on with our lives after a brief period of mourning, but by morning (HAHAHA! A play on words!), and after all was said and done, a question always lingered on in our one tracked minds. A question of FAITH, a question of MARK, a question of WHY??? @_@

So do tell, of these criptic beauties of gaming yesteryear, which one did you want to play the most?

And please, feel free to tell us your story with the one that got away. (Game that is.)

Thank you, I'll take my pie in the face with a glass of wine. :hmm:[/img]

I almost chose Starfox 2 myself, but after long debate, I would have KILLED to see Virtua Hampster in all it's 32X glory.

Star Fox 2! I remember being very excited about the game after seeing it in EGM. I was really bummed out when the game was canceled. I'd say my second pick on the list would be the Bonk RPG.

I voted for Sonic X-treme.

And you can actually play a couple of those games via emulators...

Another bid for Star Fox 2 here. It's good to hear that some of SF2's aborted traits made it into SF64, but I still would have liked to see what could have been the bitchingest usage of the Super FX chip. :(

One never knows what could happen...

Seriously though, I voted Tiny Toons for the Jaguar because even though there was never really a game for it, I loved Tiny Toons on the SNES and really wish something would've happened.

Ah well.

I am the only person that picked other.

I wanted Castlevania on the DC, as well as Half-Life (fully released) on the DC as well.

Two I actually pre-ordered that never arrived:

Braindead 13 for Sega CD – A promotion for the game actually appears on the Dragon’s Lair and Space Ace Sega CD games. Was in the works, but the Sega CD system was killed off before the game was released. No image has surfaced for the game.

Dragon’s Lair 3D for Playstation 2. Though the game was released on this platform overseas, it was never released on the PS2 in the States. Drove me nuts to see a Gamecube version and an Xbox version released, then the PS2 version was delayed…and delayed…and released in Europe, but delayed in the US…and delayed….then cancelled.

I'd definitely play Star Fox II and the Bonk RPG (that looks like the tastiest of the lot, IMO; thankfully Genjin has some life left in 'im), but I'm voting for the Game.com SotN. If I knew a copy was for sale, it'd be one of my personal grails.

I don't know anything about this Maze Hunter II 3D game; that sounds tasty as well.

While we're on the subject (yeah, it's almost certainly just another rumor started by wrong EGM game scans), whatever happened to a real port of Dracula X to the SNES? :=

I think my vote goes to Virtua Hamster, Propeller Arena would also be great be you can burn it yourself.

Other.

Penn & Teller's Smoke & Mirrors for the Sega CD. I bought a CDX specifically to buy this game a couple years ago, only to find out it never got released :(

I distictly remember playing a bit of it at an EB back in the day. I'd love to play the rest of it someday.

StarFox 2 was the biggest kick in the balls for me, so my vote goes to that unreleased gem.

Sonic X-Treme and Propeller Arena come very close though.

Propeller Arena or Half-Life on the DC. Yes I know there are isos on the net, but to have and play real copies would be sweet.

I voted for Bonk RPG. I was really looking forward to it back then.

The fixed up Star Fox 2 rom is very cool although I don't think it would have turned out as good as the first.

Are there pics of Maze Hunter 3D II?

Bonk RPG would've been awesome to play. I also would've loved to play StarFox 2 or the California Raisins (man, I remember those commercials they did for Hardees).

I selected other as well. There are several games off the top of my head that I've always wanted to play that were NEVER released (or never released domestically in a couple of cases):

1. Castlevania for the Dreamcast! It looked so neat and then....bam...gone. *sniff*

2. Star Odyssey for the Sega Genesis - A port of the Phantasy Star-like Blue Almanac being worked on by Sage's Creation. Ads were out in the maqazines, a few review copies circulated, then it vanished. I'd STILL offer $200+ for a working beta or review copy of it....

3. Red Star - Xbox - I know the review copies are circling around at the $200ish mark, but I just want to try the damned thing...I hear it's so good!

4. Rent A Hero #1 - Xbox - Again, almost released, but only review copies made it out! I want to try it dammit! Pure unadultured unreleased Sega goodness

5. Policenauts - Saturn - SO close to being finished, then canned by Konami. An English version DOES exist....but I haven't got one...yet.

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Also can't believe that Enix canned PSX Dragon Warrior 4, and never ported SNES 5 and 6 here. Ah well....thanks to Necrasario, I can at least enjoy 5 on the SNES!

Shit..almost forgot THE most important game I was looking forward to that NEVER came out!:

X-Com: Alliance! A first-person squad based game based on the X-Com universe that got canned when Infogrames got bought by Hasbro :(

3. Red Star - Xbox - I know the review copies are circling around at the $200ish mark, but I just want to try the damned thing...I hear it's so good!
There was an OXM demo(I forget which month). It was good but nothing great. It reminded me of Cannon Spike.

I voted for other and was about to say Fallout 3, but I just remembered that it got picked up by Bethesda. So that does not really count then, I guess.

Star Fox 2 then.

Star Fox 2, even though I've played the rom that someone made it work perfect, it would have been nice to have it in cart form.

Bonk RPG for sure. I remember the pictures that came out advertising it in some magazine (EGM, maybe?) and I was so hyped for it to come out. This might've been because I was one of three people who actually owned a Turbo Duo at the time, but I was crushed when I found out it wasn't released.

Has to be Sonic Xtreme. Come on, a lost Sonic game, on a platform that never had a real Sonic game. I was following that one for a long time.

Star Fox 2? Well, I've played it already. So have a lot of people. If you haven't played it yet, that's your own fault. Meanwhile, nobody has played Sonic Xtreme.

Another game that wasn't mentioned was the missing MARIO game for CD-i. I would've liked to play that, no matter how it turned out.

What? No Batman Overdrive? (SARCASM) I was so pissed when this followup to Batman and Robin on the PS1 was never released.

I guess a more appropriate title for PS1 in this poll would have been Mega Man Battle Chase. I know I was waiting for that one... it even got advertised.

Another huge kick to the face for me was Shenmue 2 on the Dreamcast. REALLY pissed me off. Ended up getting the European version.

Starfox 2. After playing the first Starfox, I wanted to play it sooooo bad. But the time has past...oh well @_@

I would totally vote for that, if not for the fact that it's FINALLY getting a US release in the upcoming Mega Man X collection. Thank God for that! :D

Anyways, I vote Sonic X-treme. I was waiting for that one forever. It looked so great too...

Spiderman for the O2.

Plus, of course:

Porno Kombat
Mall Brawl
Pretty Princess Slap fight 3000!

Don't remember them?
Read about'em in this thread

Of those on the list,i'm voting for bonk rpg. I've never even heard about that but i'm sure it would've been cool. Another good one would've been Castlevania Resurrection for dreamcast.

Immediate flashback to previews of Freakboy for the N64.

But honestly, Sonic Xtreme. Damn you, Sonic Team, damn you.

Wouldn't mind playing the version out on the net, but i got dial-up

What about Resident Evil 1.5? That's so hard to get, and I've never ever seen 1, nor will I probably ever.

Oh if only it were completed.

Believe it or not, Werewolf: The Apocalypse for Saturn. At the time I was seeing print adds for this, I was big into the pen and paper game. I was absolutely frothing for anything at all on this game. Never even saw a screenshot, but I had the $50 set aside in a pickle jar. I guess I never learn. The only other game I did that for was Heroes of the Lance for NES. God I was a nerd. And a tool.

Actually I really would have loved to see Maze Hunter 2. There were so few 3D releases and played the hell out of each one of them. Also miffed over the lack of an Outrun 3D domestic release.

Would have liked to see Castlevania for Game.com too, but it would have been horrible.

Christ, I also remember the Werewolf previews! I had no idea it was a pen and paper game back then, it just seemed really cool to play a werewolf. It sucks that it never got released.

Forget Castlevania SOTN for Game.Com; doesn't anyone remember that Konami had original Castlevania games planned for the Sega 32X as well as the Sega Dreamcast?

Black & White for the PSone. If it got a release, it's news to me - It was supposed to come out ages ago.

Half Life on DC also springs to ming, as does Flintstones: Viva Rock Vegas and Propeller Arena.

Plus, there are so many American games that were never released in the UK despite demand for things such as Chrono Trigger, FF Tactics, and Parasite Eve...

I also don't think Resi 1.5 actually counts, as it was (More or less) released - As Resi II. All they seemed to have done is replace Elza Walker with Claire Redfield, plus a few other things.

Shenmue(Sega Saturn)

Anyone thats watched the video of it knows what I'm talking about!!! 8-)

Best looking 32 bit game ever(and one of the coolest of course).

Off the top of my head, VB Mario Land for the Virtual Boy comes to mind. It looked fantastic from the screenshots, and was supposed to play a lot like Super Mario 1. Then again, anything unreleased on that system would have been a blast to see, because it really bothers me when a good system like this (and Dreamcast) fails. :(
