I remember playing castle of illusion awhile ago as a kid and loved it. Sadly I traded into funcoland. I have yet to play mickey mania or world of illusion, but I was wondering what you guys though of each of these games as I have Wold and Mania coming in the mail soon so I know what to expect (on genesis).

I've played them all and enjoy them all but Castle of Illusion is still my favorite.

Land of Illusion and Legend of Illusion were both platformers and were both released in North America (Game Gear port). And how about the Magical Quest trilogy? They're all platformers and they all star Mickey.

In other words, the poll list is incomplete.

In any case, my vote goes to Mickey Mania... but which version? I was told that the best version is the Sega CD version. I played the SNES and the Genesis versions, and I prefer the Genesis port, although the SNES one isn't too far behind. In any case, I just love how the whole game is a tribute to the history of Mickey Mouse cartoons.

A close second, in my book, is Castle of Illusion. Even though the Genesis version is prettier, I prefer the SMS version.

The only other Illusion game I have is Legend of Illusion for the SMS (Brazilian version), but I have yet to play it.

I've got the Game Gear one, as well as Castle (?) of Illusion and Mickey Mania on the Genesis. Mickey Mania is AWESOME, and the graphics really do make a difference imo. No, not the fake-3D stage they ripped off an old Spectrum game, but the actual graphics. They look exactly like scenes from classic Disknee shorts, complete with a Steamboat Willie stage in 2D and a dungeon theme in 1920s-style color (complete with the large, ungainly skeletons). w00t

I suspect this is a Genesis/Mega Drive poll, in which case you left out Fantasia (not that anyone would vote for it). ;)

I voted Mickey Mania, for the same reasons Ed did. For the record though, I loved all the pseudo 3D stages!

Yup. If you remember Aladdin on the Genesis, forget about it. Mickey Mania looks MUCh better. It doesn't have, from what I've seen, level designs that are as interesting as in Aladdin, but there's a good mix-up of objectives to help make up for that.

It's missing Fantasia, Great Circus Caper, and Mickey's Ultimate Challenge.

I personally prefer CoI. It's beautiful to look at, Bo's soundtrack is amazing, and the gameplay is spot-on. Bet Mickey game ever, IMO.

But which version of Castle of Illusion? The Genesis one? The SMS one? They don't quite look the same...

*shrug* Whichever suits your fancy. I know at least one of the Mickey Mouse in - of - games is on the Game Gear, too.

I own both Castle of Illusion for Genesis and Mickey Mania for SNES. Both fantastic games, but I like CoI more. Underrated platformer. Beautiful graphics and scenery, great ambiance, great atmosphere. Nice platforming, but just a bit too short, and also a bit too easy.

I voted Castle of Illusion. Other Mickey games surpassed it in graphics but I think it plays the best.
