I'm looking to import and purchase some Japanese Mega CD games, seeing as a lot of great RPGs and Anime style games were released and never hit these shores. However, I'm curious as to how I should go about playing these games. I have a US/NSTC Sega CD model, and I've read that there are Genesis style Cart Converters that allow you to play Mega CD games, however does anyone know can these carts be swapped out after the game boots to allow for the Sega CD RAM cart? Or are they Sonic & Knuckles type lock-on carts?

Another option I've been looking into, is possibly creating a Region Switch or installing a Mod Chip for the system. I have yet to find a Mod Chip, however I have heard mention of a way you can install a Region Switch through a few FAQs, but no specific links or details were given. I have some knowledge with system hardware as I have modded Dreamcasts and X-Boxes, so I don't see this as being too hard of a task.

If anyone has details as to where I can find information regarding Sega CD Mod Chips, Region Switch guides, or Converter carts you can get, let me know.

I had a similar question a while back. View the topic in all it's glory:

Wow... just read the BIOs mod.. I don't think I'm THAT brave to attempt that... That's a dead paper-weight system waiting to happen if I attempt that.

I'm suprised there hasn't been a Boot Disc programmed by someone yet to just flick off the region check. Something to look into. Thanks for the info.
