I will be first to stand up and say "I once had a fixation with Princess Garnet from FFXI"

When I first bought Snatcher many years ago I caught myself fantasizing about Mika Slayton a few times. I think "love" is probably too strong a word to describe it, but it's not uncommon for video games other forms of art to fool the most primitive, subconscious parts of your brain into reacting to a provocative stimulus, like something that looks to your brain like a hot chick. When your body reacts to this, in a multitude of ways :D , you may feel some sort of attachment or fascination with the stimulus. I'm sure a lot of people have had something like this go on, especially when they were younger (admit it, your first crush may have been Evil Lynn from He-man or something). I think that the only time it becomes a problem is when somebody becomes obsessed with it, and it preoccupies them, and prevents them from getting out and getting a life of their own. In this case, you've probably got some serious problems to begin with.

Oh, and the girls like VG guys too. My best friend's older sister used to always comment on how cute Ken was in Street Fighter II.

All very different expressions with very different connotations. Do not assume that one implies another.

Fictional characters are a form of artistic expression. Like most art, they can evoke emotions. Since fictional characters are specifically designed to make you feel sympathy, empathy, disgust, etc., it is not unreasonable for a fictional character to be comprised of a combination of attributes, either physical or behavioral that can evoke the mix of feelings people label "infatuation".

I'm not suprised that people have answered outright "no" to the question of "falling in love" with a VG character. Such people have probably fallen in love with a person in real life and understand the real difference between infatuation and love, though they would probably also deny having ever been infatuated with a VG character as well. I'm not saying they'd be lying, I'm just saying that this particular form of artistic expression as well as the medium through which it is expressed (videogames) just doesn't do it for them at THAT particular emotional level.

I have met people who, though having been given the opportunity, have never been moved by music, never been enchanted by a painting, never been captivated by a book OR have never been transported to another place by a movie. I've never found such persistent numbness present in all cases within a single individual. I expect that if I did, that person wouldn't have a pulse, or wouldn't have one worth monitoring. People who just flatout lack the ability or inclination to feel emotion for a videogame character should be expected. Some people have acted like it's sick and they should just be laughed at quietly.

No, I've never "fallen in love" with a videogame character. There are many that I've thought were really cute and others downright sexy, despite certain attributes being exagerated and freakish. There were some situations and behaviors with which I could readily identify and therefore feel a type of sympathy for particular characters, but I can't really describe it as "falling in love".

Keira from Jak and Daxter was really cute - voice, pointy ears and all.

Most of the women from DOA:XBV are "inspiring" to me, I just won't specify in what way.
