Call your credit card company right away. Sometimes they can help you more than PAYPAL does.

I wouldn't say it's "more popular". You ALWAYS need to check your references. If the person doesn't have ANY DP rating, and can't provide their eBay, Amazon, Yahoo or ANY other kind of feedback for themselves, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM.

I don't know this person but his/her IP address is 24.247.174.89 if that helps. Good luck getting your deal settled properly.

SOrry, I meant more common. English isnt my native language. My friend Archenemy has been ripped off twice here too :embarrassed:

I know what you meant :)

My point is that YOU CAN AVOID THIS. Not all of the time, of course, but doing a little homework on your trading partner can protect you. Thus, "getting ripped off" hasn't gotten more commonplace, "people not doing their homework" has gotten more commonplace.

I'm not blaming anyone for this - I've taken chances before when the risk was worth the reward, and I've been burned for taking that risk as well.

It's a shame you got ripped off. But MadK has only 10 posts on DP - all of them in the B&S forum. In other words, he's hardly a "regular" and probably will never return to DP.

Lesson learned. Never buy from anyone with 1. super-low post counts and 2. only lurks in the B&S or eBay forums. Those two red flags screams "I shall take your money and potentially disappear because I don't know any of you and shall never post here again."

He hasn't got many messages here but you might want to PM people on these threads for his info:

His eBay feedback has negs for slow shipping, maybe there's still hope:

I agree, however I wouldn't take someone's good feedback on anywhere else as an indication of anything.

I have great ebay feedback and some good (and no bad) DP feedback. However, just because I have great ebay feedback doesn't mean that I (or someone) wouldn't screw a DP member. There would still be no reflection on that great feedback anyway.

It's a bummer if you were taken Dude.

I do agree with you. I kinda look at all feedback as a lender might look at your credit history, assigning mental "points" for all the things that check out. Some things get a lot of points (familiarity on DP) while others get less (eBay feedback). If I'm satisfied with the total I'll go ahead with the deal. If not, it's a risk that I have to decide if it's worth taking.

Lesson learned. Thankfully it was a cheap one.

I just wanted to get the word out so others can avoid this.

If you haven't already done so, please also post feedback for this guy in the feedback forum. That's another good way to ensure other people avoid deals with him in the future.

I would like to add that if all someone has for you is good Ebay feedback, VERIFY it! I know it seems like common sense, but a lot of people don't do it! You can use the contact another member feature, or even have them list the item as a buy it now if you have cold feet.

I've taken gambles too (lucky for me I haven't been burned on the buying end of things yet), but I really hate going in here and seeing one of these threads. It pays to be cautious.
