I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask this, but I am interested in getting these items, and am looking for a reliable place to do so. I am also not very familiar with these items in general, so any additional info would be useful. I know what the modchip does, but how many versions of it are there? I read once that I needed a specific version.

You need a round button model. I have a new one that'll work or there was someone who posted here selling them and ram carts within the last week or so.

If you have an oval button Saturn, there is a way to mod the mod chip to work with it i can find a link if you want to know how

I've done the mod a few times (and 1 time unsuccessfully.. sorry Grimbal!). You need a 21 pin Saturn for most mod chips to work. These are the round button Model 2 models. You solder 1 wire to 1 pin of the CD controller chip, and 1 wire to the power supply. That's it. The solder the chip can be really easy, or a pain in the ass depending on what controller chip you use (some have more pins than others... the more the pins, the smaller they are).

You can get an Action Replay 4MB cart from www.ncsx.com (which is where I got mine). This will remove all region lockouts, give you cheats for some games, and games that require 1MB or 4MB can use the extra RAM.

I have the round button Saturn (along with the other kind). Before learning how to install the chip, I would first like to know how many different "kinds" of chips there are. Hopefully there is only one. Once I know what model of chip to get, I would appreciate a suggestion of a good, cheap, reliable place to get it. Thanks.

I am also curious about the "memory card" for the Sega CD. I know the CD has internal memory, but I am looking for a reliable long term storage device. I have heard of one the plugs into the Genesis but thats about all I can find out.

Not sure on how many types are availble. I only bought mine so I can play that disc from last years CGE.

Re-read my post for where to find one. I bought several from a place that went out of business just incase I screwed it up some how.

I'm not sure whether MCD Backup RMA Cart can be used other than MegaCD???
