I picked up a used FFIX black label for $16 this week and it came in a damn 2 disc case. Please somebody tell me that this isn't the way the game was released. It was in near-mint condition minus some light book-wear so I figured I'd pick it up while I had the chance; but man that bugged me. Guess I'll have to pay $1-$2 to buy a replacement case.

This game comes in the usual 4 disc case. It includes 4 game discs and two booklets. One booklet is information about playonline, the other is the manual.

Final Fantasy 9? What does the playonline booklet look like? (doesn't believe she has it)

Hmm.. I didn't get the Play Online book either, but I doubt it's really important. The case I got is the same size as the usual 4-disc one, but it only had the pivots to hold two discs. The black part of the case didn't have them.

Well the game has 4 discs so you definately have the wrong case then. Someone probably switched it with a case from a 2 disc game, from the outside they look identical but they obviously don't hold as much.

I bought the game back then soon after its release. I checked, and Zing is correct. The usual 4-disc-case, and two booklets: the instruction manual, and a second one titled "Online Strategy Guide on PlayOnline.com."

Daria, you have to replace the case indeed. Since there is no imprinted Playstation logo in the case, maybe a new case from a store will do; or a used cheap PS1 game with the same case in very good condition.

Lendelin, do you think you could scan the cover of the playonline booklet, so I know what to keep an eye out for? Thanks! (:

I'm almost certain the PAL version didn't come with the second book.

I do remember it having an insert though.

Quite a few of the FFIX copies on Ebay seem to include the PlayOnline booklet.

Here is a picture from one of the auctions:

That is for Final Fantasy XI, as in 11 not 9. Final Fantasy 9 does not have a playonline booklet.

Well I got another black label IX today for a friend and it DID have the Play Online book (and now it's mine!). Now, God forbid I actually want to give VIII another try (shudder) did that come with any extra books or what-not?

The ones posted here are correct. That is how mine (a US release) looks.

Sorry, Daria, that I couldn't post an image. I still don't have a scanner, I'm way behind the times. When I got a PayPal account two years ago and six years ago an answering machine (still no cell phone), that is for me being on the cutting edge of new technology. :)

Congrats, Leroy, for getting the Playonline booklet. :)

FFVIII had also two booklets: the regular instruction manual, and additionally a twenty-page booklet titled "Final Fantasy VIII. Mini-Walkthrough." It has a grey cover, and on the lower left-side of the cover it says "Bradygames," on the lower right side "Squaresoft."
