I'm sorry if this has been gone over before. I used the search function, but didn't find anything that helped me.
I know that there were only 26 gold NWC carts made, but does anyone know about how many of the gray there are?

Something like 115 or so, last I heard. Maybe 126? But over a hundred I think, and I'm, like always, exactly 82.431924% sure. :D

From this site it says Approximately 116 grey carts were made, http://www.gamersgraveyard.com/repository/oddities/nwc.html

It was my understanding that there were more than just those; I thought that carts have been discovered with numbers well into the hundreds.
Of course, I could have been smoking crack.
From what I recall, there are 90 known gray carts. There were three age groups in the nationwide contest, and 30 conestants (finalists?) in each group. As for the numbering, I'm not sure that is any determination of how many exist. The numbering might not have started at 1. There may have been spares, but there's no way to know.

There are probabley hundreds of Grey NWC carts, but the reason everyone says 90 is because only 90 of them were given to finalists of the NWC. No one really knows what happened to the other carts (Nintendo could still have them). I know there is a cart with a number higher than 250, so I would imagine there are at least that many.

Only 90 were given out. More were made, but they only exist at Nintendo, and were made for the competition. So all this means is that 115 of them exist period in the wild.

I'm pretty sure an employee or three has walked out with more at some point if others still exist. I would guess Nintendo disassembled the extras and used them for something else?
