What is your favorite hybrid? I love my JVC X'EYE(Genesis and Sega CD put together) and am currently wanting a Pioneer Laseractive(Laserdisc player with modules that allow it to play Genesis and TurboGrafx).

Definitely the Turbo Duo. The darn thing is just so sex-ay.

The CDX system. Like the JVC XEYE but the size of a portable cd player (back then). It played both Genesis and Sega CD games and was stellar in design. I picked it up at a pawn shop mint for 10 bucks with all the hook ups. Best 10 bucks ever spent.

Seconding the Multi-Mega; however, I opt for the TeraDrive. Simply because, save from the 3D0 card, a PC/games console has never been done since. It's unique, baby! :)

I'm all about the Duo. I don't think there's been a better hybrid system ever made.

The duo would be my favorite, followed by the cdx. Never saw one of those Megadrive pc things before but it looks interesting.

I second the duo with the cdx right behind.. although the wondermega is pretty damn sexy

In order of what they could play:
1. Laseractive
2. Turbo Duo
3. CDX

In order of how freakying sexy they are:
1. Turbo Duo
2. CDX
3. Laseractive

Let me see someone make a portable Laseractive and I'm sold LOL

The Wondermega is the japanes(and better) version of the X'EYE. I used to play a CDX until I got my JVC. It has better audio and the CD drive runs more quietly.

Doesnt the orginal X-eye have a motorised lid? also its by far the best looking.

The Neptune...sadly only a few protos were ever made. How sweet it would have been to have Genesis, Sega CD and 32X all in one system....sigh.

I've got a CDX on its way to me as we speak.

How about that Aiwa Genesis/radio thing. I'm sure someone has a pic.

I second this. Looks a bit of a sod with the 32x plugged into the top though, but hey, it was cutting edge technology in the day, and still looks cool today!

My only regret: Not snapping up one of these baby's when GAME were selling them at only £15 each... Bah

I guess you can count PS2 also. Can both play PSX and PS2 games ;) A nice feature.

As cool as the Wondermega is....I'm going to have to go with the Sharp Twin Famicom. It's so big, bulky, and oozing with 1980's japana-cool-osity.

I have one of these :) Agree, its a really cool console.

Navi Sega Saturn, god, what I would give for one of those, quite possibly the rarest system... It has Karaoke, GPS, a LCD screen, and a hitachi HI saturn.... X_x

For the sheer sexy look I'd have to say the Pannisonic Q. Its a really slick looking peice of hardware.

I really do like the HiSaturn too. I'd love to get one of those....Saturn on the go! With GPS too!

I'd say the original Turbo Duo is the sexiest and best in terms of function.

Although coolest is the Sega version of the Wondermega (quite rare):

Just got me a boxed one. Subtle differences from the Victor/JVC one pictured previously (like white parts around the lid)

I saw one of those aiwa ones on ebay about a week ago but now I can't find the link to the auction. Would be interesting to have, but everything I've owned with Aiwa's name on it has broke on me.

Backwards compatibility is not a hybrid really...

Oh, and the PC-FX which comes in both DOS-V and PC-9801 (the version I have)...there are probably others as well.

Hmm, I think the MSX/laserdisc hybrids are neat. For the hybrid systems I want to have most, well, there's the fancier model of Wondermega (whichever that was) and, again, the Teradrive.

Oh, the Macintosh TV...there's an interesting system.

Fun things to have, but the historical truth of all hybrids was that

- they sold poorly or weren't given a full run (because they had a limited market)
- they don't tend to do their advertised tasks very well OR they are incredibly expensive (Macintosh TV - underpowered computer, composite imput only; Wondermega - expensive; Teradrive - expensive and incredibly outdated PC hardware)

In my opinion, I say the best is the Panasonic Q, then the JVC Wondermega then the HI-Saturn then the CD-X. I have all of those (minus the HI-Saturn) and specifically the JVC Wondermega and I still think its better than the Sega one. I dont like that white ring for some reason on the Sega one. Otherwise they are both equally sexy and, contrary to belief, the rarity of both systems are actually equal.

There's only 1 neptune. Not several, and it didn't have the cd part built in, just the genesis/32x.

Still mad sexy though.
