Ever play X-Men: Children of the Atom for Saturn? I actually just played it at an arcade a week ago, and miraculously found the Saturn version complete at the flea market for $5. Yes, it's a good game. Problem is, it's so horribly unbalanced and difficult. I'm not bashing it, I'm just mad I had to play as Sentinel and set the difficulty to one star just to beat it. And it just seems so unbalanced! Still though, it wasn't too bad for $5. Just cheap gameplay-wise.

This summer I'm having a major urge to play the first House of the Dead and Carnevil. I can't find a freakin arcade with either of them and I don't have the PC version or a Saturn. Plus I want to play it with lightguns. :-P

You didn't explain it the way I did, but I think that counts for as much as that still meets the topic. Good way of posting.

That means me not palying Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 counts as well. Plus, the arcade at the mall has a broken cab.

Most recently would be Blaster Master for PSX I Tried to like it and it really isnt a bad game but its barely average at best and level design really sucks so I really never got into it. I think it was made by sunsoft and published and distributed by CRAVE not sure.

As far as Retro games go there are a few I tried Earthbound on SNES (emu) recently and just couldnt get into it either. please no flames ;) I know a lot of fellow gamers here like this game and thats why I tried it out.

Can you clarify this a bit for me? Are you asking about games you wanted to like but couldn't because of technical glitches, or games you wanted to like but just couldn't get in to for one reason or another?

To be honest, I wish I could enjoy every game I play. I always feel like I'm missing out when I don't enjoy a particular game (for whatever reason).

Off the top of my head, 1 of my biggest disappointments was the rather unpleasant Colony Wars: Red Sun.

Sure it looked great, but it got rid of the best part of the previous CW, branching storylines. Not to mention the buy/sell system was poorly implemented, plus a crap story to boot.

Weakest of the trilogy, for sure.

I've been trying to enjoy soul calibar 2, but I can't seem to get into it. Much of the fighting is all the same as the other video games. -_-

Yeah, in my sell thread I'm trying to ditch both of them. SNK stuff is starting to get stale for some reason too... I really want Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.

And as for the guy that couldn't discern what the thread's about, it goes either way as in "can't find it" and "I wish this sequel wasn't so bad" or "I heard this was good but I just can't get into it."

I've been trying to enjoy first person shooters for a long time and just can't get myself into them. But I'm still trying.

Here are some of the games I really really wish I liked:

Kirby Canvas Curse (I liked Yoshi Touch and Go better)
Super Mario 64 DS (I loved the N64 version, just not this one)
Kirby Air Ride (all you get to do is steer and use A for boosts that actually slow you down)
Some RPGs
Any of the new 3D Sonic games (too glitchy, music is too loud, voice acting sucks)
Metroid Prime

Great point! There are some games i will pick off my shelf which i hadnt yet tried from my finds to give it a go, and sometimes i end up never playing them again
Its a shame we cant like them all

My choice is "Unlimited Saga" for PS2

I was so happy to get this complete in the cardboard case for £4 the other week!

SquareEnix, what could go wrong... I love the Final Fantasy Games, Secret Of Mana and so on...

Well the whole concept of moving what could be decribed as a "Monopoly playing piece" made me cringe a little inside...
Secondly, the fact that was the main movement in the game, when you got to towns, it was purely still images with dialogue on top too which really disapointed me
The only part which made me interested was the lovely battles which were well thought out... However that wasnt enough to save this game for me..

I might go back to it again sometime, but for now, its sitting tight...

Another game like this for me is Jet Force Gemini

Despite all the great reviews and so on, i found this game to be ever so samey and just like all the other 3rd person shooters...
I cant comment much on this one, as it has been sittin on my shelf for a good 2 years...

If someone can give me a good enough reason to get into these two games again, then please do, as (like Inky said) we should enjoy as many games as we can, so we dont miss out!

Do systems count? Cuz as much as I love my DS, i just cant seem to find anything for it yet that makes me go "Man, I am sooooo glad I bought this". maby when Mario Kart and the New Super mario brothers game comes out.
So far I have
Yoshis touch and go, (No story)
Super mario 64 (good game but its still a port)
Spider man 2 (thought it was 3d, but its just a beefed up 2d sidescroller)
Urban asphalt gt (Meh)
Ridge racer ds (nother port)
Retro atari classics (cant say much about it, played all of the games before)

i find myself playing more gba games on it than anything.

Yeah, there's some online multiplayer FPSs I've wanted to get in to, but just couldn't. Not much attention is put in to the single-player modes. Also, the online modes can be a real pain, especially after you get killed time and time and time again. Usually, the AI in these games is really weak, and there's no way to train yourself against the uber-1337 punks.
Also, the stealth genre as a whole. You have to do everything perfectly and wait and wait and wait for the right circumstances. Yay!

Specifically:
Battlefield 1942
Ghost Recon 2
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
Halo 2 (though I havent tried it's saving grace (multiplayer) yet)
Custom Robo (repititive and the customizations are pretty much useless)

Shenmue 2. I love the concept, but the characters and plot just don't do it for me. People keep talking about how epic it is, but, to me, it was just banal. I may give it another shot since I didn't really get far into it.

I really, really wanted to get into Grandia 2 because the original game was one of my favorite RPGs of all time but just couldn't seem to. I don't know.. it just felt like a hugh step backwards in gameplay compared to the first game.

Don't worry, I hated Earthbound too. I even managed the strength to complete it and still didn't see anything special about the game.

Heroes of the Lance (NES) was a huge letdown for me. I was major into D&D and had been looking forward to it for months. I knew the game was crap, but I had to just keep playing it. I even lied to my friends and told them it was good because I didn't want to seem like a jackass for raving about it for weeks prior.

The Magic: The Gathering game (PS1) was similar, but not quite so profound. Before I got it, I keep telling myself that the reviewers just couldn't understand it, but the sad truth is that the game just blew.

The first Splinter Cell on Xbox. It was the first game I got when I bought the system and I tried it multiple times but could just not get into it.

I guess I thought it was going to be an action oriented stealth game like MGS, but it turned out to be a slower paced more realistic sleath game and that just doesn't appeal to me.

I went out and bought a XBOX last winter along with Halo and rented Halo 2. Well…its now July and I sold the XBOX a few months ago. I really tried but FPS titles are simply old hat to me now, I really wanted to join the wave that is Halo and it was just like every FPS I had ever played, just prettier. Hell, I tried renting all the top titles, nothing but Metal Slug held my attention and that, sadly enough spoke volumes. (Splinter Cell was ok but still not good enough)

Good thing is that I only ate $20-30 on the whole deal, not too bad figuring what I could have lost.

I wanted to like Rengoku and Coded Arms...I just couldn't though...
In the past, I'd buy a game and enjoy playing it...even after the initial "honeymoon" period...but now....hmm, maybe I'm just really picky now.

Final Fantasy Tactics. I have mixed feelings toward that game. several of my friends killed it for me turning just 4 people into killing machines and blazing through the game like a god. I tried to do the same thing they did, but I just couldn't do it cuz of so much time to be wasted.

Guerrilla War (NES) - Very fun, but extremely hard. I always feel like a cheater when I need to use as many continues as this game requires. The only level I can 1CC is the 1st.

Project Overkill (PS1) - I was hoping for a Merc's style game, but instead I get garbage. I tried to enjoy it, but it was like playing the on foot missions in Urban Strike only poorly executed and with terrible aiming controlls.

Landstalker (Genesis) - This game is fun! I love Zelda and Zelda-esque clones. But I get lost too frequently which makes me disinterested and I wind up quitting half-way through the game. The furthest I've ever gotten was the big port town.

Warsong (Genesis) - SRPG's are my favorite RPG's. But this one is too hard! Maybe I haven't given it enough of a chance, but I can't beat the 1st battle!

Games that I wanted to like but just couldn't get into (although that's not to say that I necessarily dislike them):

Metal Gear Solid I & II - I actually have a lot of respect for these games, but I just never really got into them. Maybe someday...

Castlevania IV - It's a true Castlevania game, but I'm turned off by its lack of difficulty and downtoned gothic backgrounds.

Bionic Commando - See my description for MGS I & II.

Halo II - It just didn't capture my attention the way that Halo (I) did. I'm still trying to motivate myself to play the game again to see if it actually lives up to its stupendous acclaim.

Fallout Tactics

Dude you seriously need to give that game a second chance.

The aiming controls are unintuitive but once you grasp the concept it becomes second nature and the scope of the levels, difficulty and sheer violence make it one of my favorite ps1 infantry shooters right after Loaded.

"Streets of Rage" has spoiled me with its tight control!

Alien Hominid is such a candidate for me. I really like the visual style, but I just can't seem to get into it. It's rather difficult and you keep fighting the same enemies ... I just can't get myself to like it.

And in general, I can't enjoy RPGs although I want to. They just get too complex and annoying quickly :/

Most recently: Xenosaga 2.

I just LOVED Xenosaga for the PS2. The story was phenomanal, the battle system was good, no random battles, characters had worthwhile and different specials, Xenocard was a great minigame.
It wasn't perfect, AGWS were useless, for example, but I was stoked for 2 ever since I finished part 1.

Unfortunately Xenosaga 2 is just not fun. Too often, you are just running from one location to the next for the sole purpose of triggering the next cut scene.
Once you can get into battles, you'll find that enemies are near-indestructable until you find the one and only sequence of attacks (high, low, ether) that will take them out. Then you just do that for the rest of the game.

Final Fantasy VII: Extremely overrated, average RPG. There are some good moments, but overall the characters are unlikable and the story is boring. I had been playing this series since the first one, and VI remains one of my favorite games ever, but I stopped after VII. So... blah.

Metal Gear Solid: The single most overrated game ever, this one just plain sucks! Wow, how awful it is. The controls are beyond bad, the (highly-touted) graphics look like ****, and the story... *sighs* I hate games that try to be Hollywood blockbusters, when in fact the story is below C-level, direct-to-video crap. Especially when said story is diluted in never-ending cutscenes between the cookie-cutter afterthoughts that some call gameplay segments. Such is Metal Gear Solid. Oh, and I can't stand stealth. I'll go back to Metal Slug now.

Gran Turismo: I can see how people like this game, but this clearly isn't for me. Too much customization, too many cars, too realistic. Too bad.

Real-time strategy games: I just do not enjoy RTS games, unfortunately. And since some of my friends are addicts to those (Starcraft, Alpha Centauri, Age of Empires), I feel like I'm missing on a lot. I can watch them play and enjoy myself, though.

MMORPGs: One of my friends is quite the addict (seldom playing 20-hour days), and he tried to get me into Everquest, FFXI and now WoW, but nope... pointless, repetitive, pay monthly... don't like them.

Super Mario Sunshine: SM64 was overrated, albeit good, but SMS is bad. I've finished it, and have not enjoyed a lot of it. The concept and setting are good, but not for an entire game. It just feels shallow after a couple stages of mind-numbingly repetitive gameplay, unlike Super Mario 64 and especially SMW and SMB3.

Halo: It's good, but I like action-fests like Doom 2 and Serious Sam a lot more. One gun at a time... feh.

Half-Life (and its many add-ons): Can't explain why, but I couldn't get into it. Team Fortress is so pointless...

Grand Theft Auto: Bad controls, crime theme, too many cutscenes.

GoldenEye/Perfect Dark: Wow... good design. Would have been awesome games, but not on the N64. Clunky controls (due to controller) and extremely bad framerate = bad FPS. To think that people missed on Unreal Tournament because they were too busy playing this.

Virtua Fighter: I love fighting games, especially Street Fighter II and pretty much anything by SNK (KOF, AOF, FF, etc.), but this one is too realistic and lacks personality. I can see why some people love it, though.

Devil May Cry: On paper, this game is exactly what I like. However, for some unknown reason, I couldn't get into it.

DOA: Same as VF, but way too shallow.

Oh, and for the record, I do not have some kind of grudge against highly-rated games. I loved Resident Evil, Tony Hawk, Crash Bandicoot, Metroid Prime, Soul Calibur, Super Smash Bros., Unreal Tournament (2004), and Ocarina of Time, among others.

P.S.: I agree with THATinkjar. I wish I could enjoy all the games listed above... :(

Dark Cloud (PS2) - I wanted to enjoy this, but the controls sucked - I especially hated the duels. I gave up on it pretty quickly.

Pokemon - I gave Blue a try, but I got bored with it after the first gym and eventually got rid of the game.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 and beyond - I enjoyed the first one and completed the game, but for some reason or another, I've never been able to get into any of the others. My last attempt was buying a used copy of 3 on the PS2 for $5 - After a couple weeks, I sold it to a friend for the same price.

any silent Hill, despite what ppl say the gameplay in this game is just too terrible to actually play it through the game, I've played nearly all of them and I usually play it for a about 10 hours + or so before I realize the game is bollocks, meh and then I grab the disk and smash it into a 1000 pieces, I cannot describe my hate such poor controls schemes, worthless cheating enemies, pointless backtracking, poor level design GAAAAH! RE is so much better it isn't even funny :(

Metal Gear Solid 2 (I finished it but hell what a load of bollocks nearly fell asleep like 7 times and the gameplay is awful....

WC3 just can't get the C&CRA feeling back RTS is practically dead to me.

Most hip happening over rated RPGS BUT HAY I TRY AND LIKE them but meh....

Klonoa GBA and they made such a big deal about this game, bleh namco's whirlo for the SNES was so much better it isn't even funny, I really hope once I finally get a hold of the PS1 Klonoa it doesn't suck as bad as the gba version.

YAGER man I wanted to like this game, I even payed a lot of dosh for it but pah this game is awful Rogue Squadron was so much better why can't they make more games like this, I want my money back :(

Metroid Prime: I got pretty far into it, but eventually I just couldn't figure out what to do and wasn't really motivated to try anymore.

Timesplitters 2 - I thought this game was going to be great. It got a bunch of good reviews but I couldn't get into it mainly because of the save feature on it. I should be able to save anywhere in a FPS. If not there have better be a lof of checkpoints becuase I hate covering the same ground again and again.

Unreal 2 - Choppy enemy animation was a turn off. Nice environments otherwise.

Omnikron the nomad soul -

it was just painfully boring and took to long to get to the good stuff, it did have one of the best intros I've ever seen in a game though

Dynamite Heddy
Bleh just to freaky for me, I tried but this game is just to random give smb or something similar over it anyday

Rocket Knight adventures both - highly overrated, and not really what everyone said it was High seas havoc is the game ppl should be pushing not this garbage

Hitman Contracts
I just couldn't tell but this game was just missing something it felt as if 3 ppl worked on the game and just randomly came up with this mess a real disappointment, it did look decent though GAR I wish I never bought it but I was suckered

Kirby games
so it's a game about a gay blob, It lacks structure and I just don't feel the need to play something this loose and weak in substance... well I tried but pee yew what a stinker

Plok
another generic boring platformer which has not substance I hate it when ppl hype games, really overrated imho

batman returns snes
nice graphics and some decent gameplay can't hide the fact that this game lacks structure and cohesion in a game initially it impresses but after an hour you really put your foot down....

mighty final fight nes
compared to double dragon nes this just really is the pits I don't even want to comment, it's okay I guess but I've definately played better

yup thats all for now don't say I didn't tell you so

Nintendo Game Cube

super mario sunshine - couldn't get into it, nothing like mario 64.
hitman 2 - way difficult. i suppose i may have to download a walkthru for this one.
magical mirror/ mickey mouse - i bought this game when it was 50 dollars! i remembered playing the mickey games on the sega genesis and i was dying to try this out. i got home and plugged it in... and this game is too simple. i turned it off after the first 15 minutes.

Nintendo 64

All wrestling games - my buddies would always invite me over to play and i just couldn't get into them. i never watch wrestling on tv, so that could be a big reason why.

FFVII on. I keep trying to play all of them. I'll play for 10 or 20 hours and quit. I just can't seem to get into the story. They never captured what was given in their 2D counter parts.

GTA. All versions. I give up on the missions after awhile and just do rampages. Boring.

Halo I and II. I tried to get into the hype but can't.

Just about everything for the Atari Jag (this doesn't include Tempest 2000). I just spent so much money on release day, that I tried to justify it by liking the titles.

Same here with the 3d Castlevania, Contra and Mario games. For the most part they weren't horrible games.

I know Mario 64 is considered a classic and Castlevania:LoI seemed like an improvement on the 64 ones but all of these games failed to live up to their 2d predecessors IMHO.
I could even say this about games I do like such as FF7 and Ocarina of time. Good games in their own right but they generally make want to play FF3(U.S.) or Link to the Past. It's just hard for me to get used to a series i've been playing my whole life going 3d.

Believe it or not, Katamari Damacy. I loved the concept when I first read the previews, got it as soon as I saw that it had hit the shelves, played a few levels then shelved it and eventually dumped it. The timer and camera annoyed me.

Mario Sunshine. The soft-filtered graphics gave me a headache, the camera was inexcusably bad and the game was FAR too difficult. I actually bought and tried it twice.

Halo 2. Sorry Bungie, but not all of us are on Live. Some of us still buy a game for the single player offline mode. Overhyped piece of shit. I couldn't get past the graphical glitches in the game....especially after a 2 year delay. I still play and enjoy the first Halo.

Xenogears! I had heard so many good things about this RPG, and I loved some of the music tracks from the game. The first 10-20 hours were decent enough, but the longer I played the more the horrible battle system got on my nerves. Plus, the enemies you fought in your giant Gears (mechs) were things like giant locusts that breathed stuff on you.. umm, ok! You fought weird animals and insects on foot, and then when you jumped in your Gears you fought.. larger animals and insects. The bosses were pretty much the only other Gears you faced. The "fuel" system is annoying, and even though you can customize your Gears with different weapons, bodies, and accessories, they all feel exactly the same. Finally, the storyline just gets more and more unnecessarily complicated, to the point of being ridiculous. It wasn't even complicated in a good way; it was almost as if it was trying too hard. The whole jail-camp section was just like FF7's too. And beyond the first 4-5 characters you get, the rest have little or no personality or purpose.

Blech! Another problem may have been that I played this right after playing Star Ocean: The Second Story and Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete -- both good RPGs, especially Lunar, IMHO. I chugged through 45 hours of Xenogears before I just couldn't force myself to go any further. I don't even want to know what's on disc 2.

Psychonauts. I failed to see anything special other than the characters. Just another collect-a-thon.

Super mario Sunchine
Zelda: The Windwaker

I loose interest because I HATE having to go around a 3d world looking for some obscure small object. If I wanted to find hidden items. I'd go out as a bunny every easter. Put my ass on rails and lets go!

Hah, me too! I just tried to finish it, was on the last part of the game and just got so bored/frustrated with sooo many little things about the game that I quit with very little left to go. I could write a long thread about all the small shit that pissed me off in that game. I think it was overcooked more than anything.

I feel this way about Destroy All Humans. I really, REALLY wanted this to be amazing. But it just isn't that good. Lots of style, not a lot of depth/substance.

And shame on all of you who bashed Psychonauts. :P

I think my thread turned into a series-hating list. Yowza.

I couldn't get into La Pucelle. But that doesn't mean I hate all the Nippon Ichi games. No, in fact, I love them all but that one. It felt weird, not having as many chances to exploit movement things like in Disgaea.

I'll just write a couple of the big franchise names that I didn't like:

Sonic Shuffle: this game makes me sad. If they'd put the mini games on a lot more of the game board squares, it would have made the game awesome. Boo. That's what happens when a Sonic game is created by a developer that isn't Sonic Team. I do, however, love the graphics and music and everything about it except the gameplay! Bah!

LoZ: The WindWaker: I've tried playing this 3 times now, and get bored in the first part, where you have to find your sister and fight the bird or whatever. This also made me sad since Majora's Mask is one of my all time favourite games and I can't even remember the basic concept.

Star Ocean Till The End Of Time: Recently one of my friends told me that you have to play through about ten hours of this before it gets good. TEN HOURS?! *throws frisbee, replaces with Gitaroo Man*

Every Mario game*: yup. The more I play, the more I hate. However, I love Yoshi. I just find the Mario games so freakin' tedious, and I played them BEFORE I got into Sonic. Actually, I liked Mario Tennis on the 64. Golf however, can kiss my butt. All the NES and SNES ones were boring, except 3 on the NES, which was just bearable. I guess I felt that being able to cheat your way through the whole game and then defeat Bowser without even touching him was the stupidest idea in the history of gaming.

*except Yoshi's Island, which is one of my favourite games and the reason I got a SNES :P

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: UH. Boring with a link cable. Boring without. Make it go away!

I actually have a lot of patience when it comes to games. I actually liked Final Fantasy X-2. Liked it enough to play it through twice. Even though it was lame and cliched as hell, it was fun! I also liked Star Fox Adventures and probably every other "crappy" spin off game you could think of. Hehe.

Ecco the Dolphin games - always to hard for me with air and energy. I would like to play them.

Panzer Dragoon Orta - I would never buy a X-Box, but I played it a bit by a friend and this is the only game which interesting me on the X-Box.

Zelda / Link CD-i Games - I don't own a Philips CD-i yet, so I can't play them. And I own only one Zelda Promo game yet, not sure if this is the Full Game.

Many Japanese SNES Adventures - I don't understand Japanese, so most of them to hard to play. :(

Halo 2. Sorry Bungie, but not all of us are on Live. Some of us still buy a game for the single player offline mode. Overhyped piece of shit. ... I still play and enjoy the first Halo.

I agree (and yes, I too enjoy the original Halo despite not liking its sequel).

I think I forgot to add DIAKATANA to my list. I wanted to like that game - I really did. I gave it the benefit of the doubt when everyone spoke nasty things about it and said that it was one of the most overhyped, disappointing games ever. It turned out that they were right.

It was okay nothing really special, I'd say about 70% or so the biggest problem I had were the level design flaws often you'd get lost or spend lots of time running around aimlessly Mario64 is still the best....

And what's up with that Lego star wars Overrated POS sure it has some nice graphics and platforming elements but the combat is really weak (pales into comparison to golden axe 1 :hmm: ) not to mention the collision detection errors, Once I finished I really wasn't interested in playing it again it just isn't even in the same league as smb3, dkc, mario64 etc etc

I can understand there being an easy-easy mode for kids but why not give us the fecking option for the people who buy the damn game :hmm: I mean really x_x This game is getting 90% when truly is deserves like 60% something only a true gamer would know.

Doom, heard great stuff about it but just hated it. Found it repetitive and above all stupid. It was good for it's time but doesn't stand the test of time, it's an innovator, not a classic.

FF8 takes the cake for me. after the great job square did on 7 i couldn't believe the crap they did on 8, but thats my personal opinion.

New one for me: any Bond game made after Goldeneye (N64). I lose interest after the first couple levels. I have Agent Under Fire, Nightfire, and Everything Or Nothing on the Gamecube, and I plan to get rid of them soon.

Tomb Raider III. I LOVED the first two so much that I went out and bought III and the guide the day it came out. Disappointed. Horribly disappointed.

Don't feel bad I hate most of mega mans on the PS1 and all of the Mega Mans on the SNES, only the GBA MM could restore my faith but that went to poop after MMZ 3 imho
