To go along with the other topic of wich games you couldnt get into or tried to like?

Their are many for me.

I was very taken with Killzone after all the hype and then the aftermath of how it paled in comparison with the seemingly worshiped by the masses game that is Halo.

Killzone just had the type of atmoshpere that I like and I thought the graphics were great for PS2 hell any current system for that matter not perfect but a great first installment in my opinion. ;)

Outlaw volleyball Remix ..ok so Im a perv :D but its fun to play with good control and play mechanics..really 8-)

Sega Classics Collection: I just dont see what the hell is wrong with this "remade" collection of Sega games?
I mean what do some ppl expect for a collection of 9 games that originally sold for around $18-$20 budget titles in japan? I even like Golden Axe so there

Driver 3: yeah its got some technical issues that really hold it back but I didnt think it was as bad as what many reveiwers said sooo much potential though. heres hoping Driver 4 will deliver.

Out of recent recollection, I was very surprised when my sis introduced me to the Sims [and its sequal, more recently]. They say it's really popular with the ladies, the people simulator. I guess they like to boss around other people more.

A game called "Way of the Samarai". It was surprisingly good. Alot of fun. You can choose your own destiny.

GTA3. I was at the height of my "classic games only" mindset when this came out. I only bought it because it was the killer app for PS2. The only reason I even had a PS2 was because I got it for $10.

Anyway, it didn't take long before this thing sucked me in and for the next three weeks I was the Liberty City Zombie, playing GTA3 at all possible hours of the day and night. If you would have come up to me during that time and said "Atari 2600" I would have responded "What's that? Is that a new vehicle over on Staunton Island? Is it fast? I'll look for it once I've unlocked the bridge." @_@

GTA3 is one of the best games I've ever played , but I really didn't want it to be so.

Ive wondered about the Way of the Samarai games now Ill have to pic them up.

I wasnt sure since they always got mediocre reveiws but after all these years I should know better than listen to one persons point of view on a game that Im pretty sure I would like. ;)

Im very into any games like Tenchu etc.

Daikatana.
I think I'm the only person that didn't completely hate it. I played the PC version, bought it for $10. I had my fun with it.

I picked up Vice City as part of a buy-2-get-1-free deal, not expecting to like it in the least. But it really is a good game. I may be the only person in the world who has liked a GTA game primarily for...the story. :)

(And the talk radio.)

No no no! Florida does not need any more OLD people!

Brahma Force: Assualt on Beltlogger 9 (PS1) really was fun for me and I wasn't expecting it to be good at all. Mainly, I liked the story. The villan was really spiffy and ultra-creepy. Probably kind of like that evil AI in System Shock, if I'd have ever played it. There have been lots of others too, but Brahma force just jumps to mind.

N20: Nitrous Oxide - I bought this PlayStation game after seeing ONE screenshot and reading ONE series of mixed reviews in EGM. One of the comments about it was something like "it's like a digital acid trip" and it looked kinda like Tempest meets S.T.U.N. Runner (a game that is terribly underrated and the reason I bought a Lynx) so I figured why not, it should at least be a decent game. I still play it to this day and it's still a blast for marathon gaming sessions, a great way to kill a couple hours or an entire afternoon.

FantaVision - Sony's big first party PS2 launch title, known as one of the most dissapointing lauch titles of all time. It's a puzzle game where you chain different color firework flares and detonate them in complex chains on the fly to earn points. It sounds wonky, it sounded wonky in 2001, which is why it didn't sell. However in 2002 when I was still in the upper echelons of Target Corporation there was a whole case of FantaVision that got marked down to $2.94 - who could resist? The game is a great unique puzzler and the graphics are still cool enough to make it look impressive when you get into the zone and the flare chains reach the insane. A PSP version would be nice. Granted, I wouldn't pay $50 for it, but maybe $30. It goes for next to nothing and is worth picking up if you like fast-paced puzzle games. Pulling off 200+ chains is still one of the most satisfying gaming experences I've had.

Densha de GO! 2 - The NeoGeo Pocket Color port of the Dreamcast version of this popular Japanese train-driving simulation was TONS better than I would have expected. I love the console versions (you have to be a train buff, believe me) but how would all that translate down into a compressed portable game? Surprisingly very well. Granted there aren't any other trains onscreen and the scenery is fairly bland, but the frenzied pressure of precisely operating a speeding train, following all the rules, and stopping the sucker on a dime - all against an unforgiving clock - is all there. Also I like people asking me "what's that" when I'm playing it on my Camouflage Blue NGPC. "It's a gaming system that never really made it, this is a Japanese revision of it ... yeah, it's a game where you operate trains on passenger railways." :D

Superstar Dance Club No. 1 Hits - Probably the most demasculating of the XS Games PS1 releases to purchase, it's like Space Channel 5 + PaRappa The Rapper but a light version of what you'd get when mashing them together. The graphics are cutesy 2D and look kinda like the backgrounds from Taiko Drum Master now that I think about it. You control different girls in different settings as they go through dancing routines. If you like the formentioned music games you'll probably like Superstar Dance Club, it's cheap enough. Although from the case art and the game premise you would expect it to totally suck.

Preach it! And they weren't "budget releases" in Japan, they were for the "hobbyist gamer" a term which I wish US game developers would understand - and FAST. Most LE's may suck now (nothing like they were in the late 90's) but these little niche series would do well enough in the US. An excellent port of Virtua Racing is an excellent port of Virtua Racing in my book - I would have paid $50 just for Virtua Racing -Flat Out- LOL Mainstream reviewers are jaded for the most part, plain and simple, maybe they should go back and play some PS1 games before they start comparing so much to them.

Beleive it or not but, Katamari Damacy. Oh i'm gonna get it for that one.

The fact is i'm usally hit or miss with stuff from Japan. I love many Japanese developers and there products, i like Poki sticks, but I royally hate most anime (another thing that should get me lots of hate from this board. If it's worth anything i did like the first 14 eps of EVA) and to be honest i never caught that whole Japan Rocks buzz. However i gave katamari a shot and i absolutely loved it. Proof that having an open mind is a good thing. The game is so Japenses it couldn't be americanized and am i ever glad for that.

Donkey Konga. - I HATE Rhythm games. DDR? Forget it. Samba De Amigo? No way. But a drumming game.... hmmm... SO I was skeptical at first, but getting into it, it's quite the addiction! The person who invented this must have had come up with the same formula I did:

Donkey Kong + Bongos + 3 Friends + Alcohol = A Great time!

Animal Crossing - I thought I was gonna hate this. My buddy raved about it. I didn't get it at all. Until I played it. If there is one thing I must say about exclusive gamecube titles, is that they get you hooked like crack. If you haven't tried this game for more than 30 minutes, go do it now.

Nintendo DS - I thought this was dumb. It couldn't play Original GB / GB Color games anymore. Great. No Zelda DX :( So I waited. My brother got one for Christmas with Super Mario 64 DS, and he raved about it until New Years. I watched him play a few times, and just went, meh. It's a rehash of an old N64 game. So I waited some more, then they ran the current promotion of getting the Mario 64 game with the NEW Electric Blue DS. I couldn't pass that up. Instantly purchased Yoshi Touch & Go, and Kirby's Canvas Curse (Best game for the System, IMHO). If you haven't tried a Nintendo DS for more than a half hour, go do so!

Has'nt this thread been done before allready?

My number one choice in recent years -- Kingdom Hearts.

I thought the game was going to suck when I first heard about it. Square, a company that I have a lot of respect for, and Disney, a company I HATE? But I finally tried the game on a rental, and fell in love with it and soon bought it and the GBA sequel after. It has really good gameplay, nice music, and a good story. I was surprised at how fun it was to play and the mixing of FF charcters into it also just helped my intrest. :)

CHU CHU ROCKET. My friend had it on his Dreamcast and was telling me how fun it was. Sounded retarded to me but one night 4 of us were playing Power Stone and he suggested it. We popped in Chu Chu and it was awesome. One of my favorite multiplayer games now.
