I'm just going by personal experience, but I wouldn't say that Samurai Showdown and Battle Blaze are particularly rare. I've seen them quite often in the wild.

Ill try to get some more info for you today....

I agree with Kid Fenris on Battle Blaze and Samurai Showdown, there are a couple others on there too ..

You have Noahs Ark on the List 2 times. And I dont believe Wisdom Tree has anymore copies left.

I just picked up boxed copies of Sea Quest and Mohawk and Headphone Jack this weekend. Either I got lucky or they're not that rare. I HAVE seen Sea Quest at Gamestop/Funco before though.

Sega Hitman

Sea Quest has got to be at least a 7. I've never came across the SNES or Genny version of it.

Mohawk & Headphone Jack might be a little questionable. I've seen a few of them before. That could be just be some territorial thing though.

You've listed "Super Troll Islands" and "Trolls" on there. I've never heard of Trolls. That might be a boo-boo.

What about Whizz or Magic Boy? I've only seen each of those once in my life.

Definitely add:
Aerobiz SuperSonic
Brainies
Magic Boy <-- up until recent discovery of a few thousand pieces it was unheard of
Swat Kats

Maybe add:
Adventure's of Yogi Bear
Aerobiz
Disney's Pinocchio
Full Throttle
Looney Tunes B-Ball
Mario Early Years Preschool Fun
Mega Man X3
Mega Man 7
Mr Do!
Ren & Stimpy Time Warp
Sim Ant
Sim City 2000
Steel Talons
Syndicate

Drop:
Disney's Timon & Pumbaa's Jungle Games
Jim Power: The Lost Dimension
Tommy Moe's Winter Extreme

Dragon's Earth <-- I don't think this was a North American release

Mega Man 7 is not that rare. I've seen it in several different resale outlets. Same goes for Mega Man X3, in my opinion. I've also seen Zero: The Kamikaze Squirrel in stores a couple times, but I might have just gotten lucky.

DP, I took the liberty of showing your list to a local EB World clerk (and game collector). He agreed with most of the titles and suggested the addition of Carrier Aces.

By the way, what's Robotech? I don't recall any Robotech games on the Super NES.

oops, i meant robotrek, but that's on the list too. i would take ignition factor off. i have it complete, and have seen it loose a quite a few times. i doubt its a 7.

Hmmm... there was Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie for the Super Famicom, but that never came in the US (and boy, did we miss out). I don't recall ever seeing a Robotech game for the SNES. If there is one, I'd really like to see it.

Scooby Doo, though I might be wrong about that

@mikeetler: Full Throttle? That wouldn't be the Lucasarts game, would it?

I still wonder if Impossible Mission 2025 will ever show up anywhere, or if it's better listed as a proto. (There's got to be a few review copies out there if nothing else.)
And has anyone seen Kid Klown's Crazy Chase around?

Hmmm... there was Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie for the Super Famicom, but that never came in the US (and boy, did we miss out).

Oh yes, probably the best shooter on the SNES (and my favorite shooter of any system) and it never got released outside of Japan.

In all fairness though, it's not terribly rare, probably only a 7 maybe 8 in terms of SFC rarity. It is expensive though, mainly due to what it's based on and the fact that it is such a fantastic game which means that gamers (especially shmups fanatics) are more than willing to pay the price to get a copy, but IMO it's easily worth the price that it currently sells for.

UPDATED.

Besides a few additions and subtractions I also removed the doubled up "Trolls" (which was an error).

QUESTION: Is there such a game as ROBOTREK? I've never seen or heard of it but someone reputable mentioned it. I'd have to go back to the original post, wondering if they meant ROBOTECH, the mech/RPG game?

mikeetler
07-31-2002, 08:36 AM
Full Throttle? That wouldn't be the Lucasarts game, would it?

Nah, just a not too memerable jet ski/motorcycle racing game from CyberSoft.

Scooby Doo, though I might be wrong about that

Up until it's Majesco re-release it would have been, but not now.

Achika
07-31-2002, 08:38 AM
Scooby's pretty easy to find here. So I think it's more uncommon than it is rare. I don't know how rare

3 Ninjas
Beethoven
Pac In Time

I've seen them a few times over the past few months, even if there are other collectors in Flint, NO ONE is buying them.

Yes, it is Robotrek. It was an Enix release.

What about Smartball? I always thought that was a rare one.... I've never seen one today, only in magazine ads.

maxlords
07-31-2002, 09:02 AM
Hmmmm...a bit of that stuff I wouldn't count as a 7 even.

I wouldn't count:

3 Ninjas
Beethoven
Choplifter III
Eek the Cat
Innido: Way of the Ninja
Rex Ronan (I've passed up a TON of these)

I would also add:

Super Bomberman 3 (any one have this or 4, I'll swap for em!)
Super Bomberman 4
Ogre Battle
Space Megaforce?
Breath of Fire 2?

And finally, Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie was a KILLER SFC game....and I still have two boxed complete ones left to sell or trade on my site if anyone is interested. It's a pretty uncommon game in Japan as well, selling for around $40+ there, and around $80 here. If you want one..the URL is http://www.angelfire.com/rpg2/maxlords/ Check it out in IE, not Netscape. Sadly, NO Robotech game was EVER released in the US for ANY system. The only ones I have are imports for the Duo, SFC, and Famicom.

digitalpress
07-31-2002, 09:06 AM
@maxlords: I agree with some of your notes but it seems you're counting non-US releases, like Super Bomberman 3 or 4 which didn't come out here. We've beaten Eek the Cat to death in the original thread so that has to stay.

maxlords
07-31-2002, 09:21 AM
Pretty sure that Super Bomberman 3 and 4 were released in the US in limited quantities. I've never seen them, but one of my other gaming buds has seen 3 a few times.

If they're Japan only, ignore em...I thought they were US releases that I just can't find!

Poor Eek....... *sniff*

3 Ninjas, Beethoven, Inindo, and Rex Ronan are all pretty tough to find. If you've seen tons of copies of Rex Ronan in your area, it's probably because some store near you had a case, and they put the games on clearence or something. Once everybody saw how terrible the game was, they sold it to Gamestop. Take the N64 game Glover for example, Best Buy put that on clearence for like $10 a few years back, and within days Funcoland's had tons.

I would consider Space Megaforce pretty hard to find. A complete copy went for $150 on eBay a few weeks ago. If it was something people could find easily in the wild, it would have never gotten that high. I've found one copy of it, and thats it.

Jorpho mentioned Kid Klown's crazy chase. This is another one i've only seen once, and never came across it again. Same goes for Smartball.

Yes, it is Robotrek. It was an Enix release.

It's a mediocre RPG that I bought brand new for $20 last year. Then opened it. Then didn't like it. Then saw someone here say it might sell for hundreds if still sealed. Doh.

I wouldn't be too upset. A quick look at eBay completed shows it at a low of $5 (cart only) to a high of $41 (sealed), which is in line with what my store sells it for. If Enix's name wasn't on the game I don't think anyone would even give it a second look.

Another game I would like to throw out there, I am not sure it is rare, maybe uncommon, but I would like to hear some opinions. How about " Wordtris " I happen to like it, but I am not sure it is something that many people would run out and buy. Any thoughts?

maxlords
07-31-2002, 03:24 PM
Yeah...people are suckers for sealed games. I don't know what idiot started this trend, but it's stupid to pay 20 X what a game is worth just to have one you'll never open.

Thats a pretty good looking list. Most of those titles I've never seen in the wild, but I haven't exactly been collecting SNES games either so its possible I just haven't been looking at them. :P

Oh and a couple of people mentioned Kid Klown's crazy chase as a possible rare game. I just recently picked this one up sealed on ebay:

I only bought it cause it was cheap and I was already getting another game from them.

New Horizons and Uncharted Waters are different games. Actually I think New Horizons is a sequel to Uncharted Waters and that's probably why the title appears in there as well.

Proof:
New Horizons

Uncharted Waters:

I got Uncharted Waters at Gamestop for 9.99.. a little pricy when I got it 5 months ago but I wanted to play a pirate statagy game that weekend.. go figure.

The graphics and music are dated even for the SNES but the gameplay is refreshing. And the game gets addicting. I haven't seen it's sequel.

Sega Hitman
08-01-2002, 12:05 PM
I'm basing my opinion on the Genny versions, but New Horizons completely blows away the first one. If you liked Uncharted Waters, even a little bit, tracking down New Horizons would be a good idea.

Well, i think many games should be removed from this whole thing, any Mega Man games, Uncharted Waters and New Horizons, and Robotrek are easy to find. Bebe's Kids is pretty hard, then again , I have seen 2 in the past week out here, so go figure. Hurricanes is Mega Hard to get, Sonic Blastman 2 and Pocky and Rocky 2 they still sell new out here, certain games in certain areas are going to take precedence over others, it always seems to happen.

Kid Fenris

I'm not sure how rare RoboTrek, Paladin's Quest, and Tecmo's Secret of the Seven Stars are, as I've seen them about as often as Mega Man X3, Mega Man 7, or Lufia and the Fortress of Doom.

Wrong. At the time I played it, I didn't even know who Enix was. I really enjoyed that game, and I have some friends who are hardcore gamers that thought it was above average as well.

As far as leaving a game in the package so that it retains greater market valuel I don't care if it's damn RADIANT SILVERGUN, if I get a game, I'm going to open it and play it! What else are we collecting them for?! Furthermore, a true collector will probably never sell his collection anyway, so, as far as I'm concerned, you should just try to enjoy what you spend your hard earned money on.

LAST CALL!

I need to have my column in tonight - the list you see above is what I'm going with based on the notes I've gotten from this thread and the previous forum's threads. If you have a serious dispute - with some reason of proof behind it - speak now or forever allow this list to be printed in a game mag!

I'm gonna say that it looks OK to me, though there are a few I'd remove that others have said DON'T.

DNG? I'd trust you to be the final word.

As of this writing, Robotech is still on the list and should be yanked, since it doesn't exist. I'd also take off Smartball, Robotrek, and Inindo: Way of the Ninja, but those are just my picks.

I was more refering to today's mindset, not back when the game was released. I sold a good number of copies of the game to Mech game customers that would never touch any fantasy based RPG-type game. Today, any game made by Enix, SquareSoft and a few other companies have loyal followers that will flock to it without any knowledge of the game, which is why some of them tend to get pricey.

@DP shot you an email

I left 4 games off the "Rares" list on accident

Fun N Games
Mario's Early Years: Fun With Numbers
Mario's Early Years: Fun With Letters
Mario's Early Years: Preschool Fun

And in the "Uncommon to Rare" section

Robotech should be Robotrek
Whizz should be moved to the Rares section

How many copies of Dream TV have people seen around? It's an R5 in the Rarity Guide, but the time I found it once a couple months back was the first time I ever heard of it. I doubt it's as rare as some of the others mentioned, but I was just wondering.

This is a 3 1/2 year old thread pre- Advance Guide, it was for a column in Tips and tricks at that time. I dont think Joe would be able to get your (i mean my, if you catch my drift :D ) updates in O_O

It would be better to start a new thread then add comments to an old list

Most of the stuff in it is really out of date or irrelevant or did not have a lot of research done

DNG: They've ALWAYS been on their list. Also, they go by "North American" releases, not US released games. Each game they sold for SNES was for play and sale only in Mexico, Canada, and the United States with that particular seal.

THat Nintendo list has been sketchy for awhile, the Game Boy Color list is FULL of errors, and the Nintendo list does not even have Mountain Bike Rally/Speed Racer!

I have YET to see a bonafide non-bootleg of the original ISS for SNES, but I have seen a few of ISS Deluxe

Final Fight Guy (rental)

Final Fight Guy use to frequently be on on eBay as well as amazon.com
I saw a copy go uncontested for 5-6 straight days at 99 cents on eBay about a year ago. And the shipping wasn't a rip off either.

Lufa 2 and No Escape i am glad to see on there because i own each of them and have never seen another copy of either at any of the shops i have been to.

Bazooka Blitzkrieg i have seen a few copies of in various stores. No more than 5 though. And always loose.

EDIT

Hahahaha i just saw the title went back to the first post and started reading.
Didn't even notice the age until i caught up.

Hello! Long time reader, first time poster...
Don't really know about SNES-NWC's, but I have a SNES-Campus Challenge cart in my collection (we discussed it over at nesworld a while ago). The principle is the same as the NES-NWC's:

1. Super Mario World - Get 50 Coins
2. F-Zero - Finish 2 Laps
3. Pilotwings - Don't forget to use your parachute! (Play for the remainder of your time)

My guess is this is what a SNES-NWC-cart would kinda look like if they exist.

Dragon View? An R7+? The guide says R4, what gives? Not that I'm complaining, it's a cool game.

maybe not interesting for the list, but then again, Starfox competition and DK competition ar there as well, how about the snes nwc cartridges? R they known to exist?

Then they should be on the list as well....

Finally, someone has found that blasted thing. We have heard rumors about that for a couple of years now. Is it alright if I throw that up on Snes Central sometime?

Oh, weird, I thought Campus Challenge was a Dr. Mario thing. Is that another event?

That was for the NES, I believe. Here's a qoute from an article found at the NES Warp Zone:

"...the Campus Challenge included the following games: Dr. Mario, Pinbot, and Super Mario Bros. 3..."

Well, this means that they did both a NES and a SNES competition with the launch title during the event.

Making a page with all the competitions would be nice...one day.

Huh, did you notice that the PCB is marked SNES-EVENT( ) ?
