After reading the Chuck E. Cheese post it got me thinking. Back when I was in Jr. high (1989-92) you could have an Aladdin’s Castle arcade birthday party where they would set all the games to free play and close the store to the outside public. This was awesome figuring that you could blast through almost every game they had. And figuring that at that time, it was smack dab in the second golden era of arcade gaming bliss (Operation Wolf, TMNT the arcade game, Cadash, NARC, Neo Geo titles, Contra, Simpson’s arcade, the list could go on for pages). Unfortunately, they later changed it to where the birthday person got 50 tokens and all the rest received 20 (I think that was right.) Well, that sucked and shortly thereafter that came to an end, they got rid of the party thing (probably due to lack of support as their prices went up and the free games went away). Now I think all the AC’s in my area are closed, I haven’t seen one around for quite some time.
Did anyone else have on of these parties? Man it was a blast; I would do one today if there was such a thing (Oh, and this fictitious place has to be filled with the same games, not DDR version 5004, Another Sega sit down game and some lame-o beat up Galaga cabinet like many places have today). Gee…do you think such a Mecca exists? Probably not.
