Last night, my 3-year-old daughter got up out of bed and came out into the living room to find me playing Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits on the PS2.
I didn't think much of it, Arc's not especially violent and there's not really any coarse language or anything that shouldn't be seen by kids or anything.
For those who don't know, Arc the Lad is a turn-based strategy RPG in the vein of Shining Force or Fire Emblem.
So my daughter comes out and I'm playing the game. She watches one of the enemy characters lumber over and hit my character with a big hammer.
She seemed a bit taken with this and said, "He's not being nice."
I agreed and then had to go and hit the enemy back. She seemed OK with this, though, and I started wondering what kind of lesson I was teaching her through this. I explained that none of them were being nice, then saved as soon as I could and turned off the game.
What kinds of situations have you found yourself in? I would guess that most of us (at least the fellas) have had the little woman come in the room to see some impossibly buxom character bouncing around. How do you handle these situations?

Last night I was wrapping up a game of FF7 and my dad busted in exactly when Tifa says "Words aren't the only thing that show feelings".

Dead Or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball was definitely embarassing to play when relatives were visiting.

Playing "Incredible Crisis" - and getting to the ferris wheel-"massage a woman" game. The TV is making all of these moans and groans....and in walks the wife. x_x

This has happened so many times with my wife that I'm not embarassed anymore. She's already lost all respect for me anyhow.

When I was playing one of my bishoujo games (Snow Drop) and my kids walk in right in the middle of one of "those" scenes

I've never been embarrassed by the game I was playing but have been twice with the controllers I was using.
Both times caught by the wife. First time was playing Galaga using the U-Force. Not so bad, she just rolled her eyes a bit. Second time I was playing Duck Hunt using the Konami Laser Scope. There I sat with that ridiculous contraption on my head shouting "fire". I got the "good god you're a dork."

I was playing Broken Sword III one day, and there's a bit near the beginning where Nico investigates some guys appartment...
Well, on the answerphone there is a message from the guys mum about laundry, and to cut a long story short, where she actually says "Cement" it sounded like "Semen" (In a French accent)
Well - My mum walked in just as I was listening to that message - I bet she wondered what kind of game I was playing!!!

Never, and I mean NEVER use the eyetoy alone.
[mom pops her head in my door]
Mom: Oh, what is that? You're playing PacMan? You're not doing so well. You used to be so good at PacMan. Am I bothering you?"
Damn performance anxiety!

I get embarassed when I'm playing something really bad when I could be playing something much better. My wife gives me grief when I play crap. And I play a lot of crap. Sample conversation:
Her: "Were you just playing Drake before I walked in?"
Me: "Uh... no... it was KOTR."
Her: "Huh. Thats funny because the voices were really horrible and KOTR is pretty good."
Me: "Hehe, must have been the wookies."
Her: "Plus the controller is thrown across the room. Are you sure it was KOTR?"
Me: "It... may have been Drake. I forget."
Her: "*sigh* At least it wasn't King's Field again."

I remeber being bored and over a friends house, they happened to have a genesis and a few games..
sonic 2..blah...eternal champions..blah
they were playing some card game (magic the fattening I think) so I decided to play a video game...so what did I play?
crystal pony (I believe that was the title)
nobody was in the room..and I aparnetly played it for like several hours, I had finally finished a "hard" part in the game....I beleive I cheered or something..
I was then startled to hear my "friends" behind me laughing hysterically ;-)
it was an awesome game damnit :-(

When I was buying Rumble Roses, my dad was like "Ah I see why you're buying this game." LOL Also when I was playing Bra and Panties match on Smackdown! vs RAW against my cousin, who is 13, my aunt goes, "What kinda game is this!" My uncle, on the other hand, sat down and watched with a grin on his face. LOL The only game that gets me embarrased when caught playing is any Leisure Suit Larry game on PC.

Well, when I was younger, I would always make dumb faces when playing shooters. Raiden, Tyrian, Gradius, any of them. I dont know why, it was just.... me. People would always make fun of me for it. I dont do it anymore :D

Shit, I played that game with the son of a friend of the family. He was like 12.
Playing Magic Knight Rayearth on Saturn was a little embarrassing. My mom saw one of the FMVs, and she was all like, "What are you watching? Sailor Moon?"
I'm more worried about my comic book collection. Although I read stuff like GI JOE and Fantastic Four, I like shojo manga. More than half of my manga collection is shojo.

When I was little I would go over to my next-door neighbor's house and play games with their kids and my best friend (who has since passed on, sadly). And while I might bring over a game or talk them into some Super Mario Bros. or whatnot, more often than not I'd be forced (as "the" gamer of the group) to play some of their favorite games; namely, a Barbie title and The Little Mermaid.
At seven years old, that's not something a stereotypical boy is up for playing... but I did. :embarrassed:

This post made me seek out the game. The full name of it is Crystal Pony Tales, and it actually isn't bad. 8-)

I've sadly never seen it in the wild, maybe I should look on ebay...

Well, I have already come out of the closet with this on another forum, so i'm not going to deny it any longer... I have a thing for Ulala! :embarrassed:
I'm not ashamed though!
She has just the sexiest voice, and the nicest ass, and those outfits... :-P
I can often be seen playing SC5 - But I must admit, I require the use of a cushion on my lap to avoid embarrasment... :/

Once I was at a giant LAN party, and as everyone's setting stuff up, I get mine done, online, everything. So then I go:
"Now that's everything's working, time to play...YODA STORIES!"
Of course I got a laugh, but it was intentional.
Dunno anything that I've been embarassed by yet...I'm sure there's been something but I dunno offhand. I've played a lot of crap in my day though.

I couldnt give two shits what people think about the game I'm playing. I played Feel thr Magic and 'worse ' still Sprung all the time on the bus and at work, as Becky. Couldn't give two shits what anyone thought,e specially as most people are fucktarded morons who like to pigeonhole.

I was playing Night Trap yesterday and I was at the part where the girls were lip-synching to the theme song. All of a sudden my sister came storming down the stairs. I turned it off before she reached the bottom. Good save if I do say so myself.

Amen, brother.
In other news, there are several games I like to play on the PC, such as MPG, AVI, and WMV. For some reason I always have to empty the recycle bin after playing those or I get some funny looks. :D

Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball, more awkward than embarrasing.
Mainly because I'm gay, and so it can be of some confusion to my family when they see me playing it.
I can just see my Dad's brain clicking over, then exploding from overload. LOL
Heck ya! A long time ago I was playing this game on my Amiga 500 called Bedroom Olympiad or something like that. You have these cheesy rendered scenes of a man and woman doing the nasty. In order for them to do anything, you have to move the joystick back and forth. I was using an Atari 2600 joystick for this game. Anyway, the faster you jerk the joystick back and forth the faster the guy gets busy. So I was going postal on this poor joystick, when my mom walks in. Since I was on course to break my high score, I kept going. But believe me, you can't feel your hand for 2 days after playing this game. I recall my mom just shaking her head and walking out. When she got down the hall I asked if she wanted to play. What a smart ass. :D

Wow, I am glad I have an Amiga. I know what I'll be doing this weekend. LOL

People who bust in or poke or just plain enter with stealth or exclaimation are almost always going to catch you off gaurd, be distracting, or wreck your focus regardless.

Alot of you had some pretty funny stories.
The only time i really get embaressed playing a game is when it is an "kiddy" game. Because then i get snide remarks left and right about it.

My dad once walked in while I was playing Knights of Xentar, it wasn't during a dirty scene or anything but he kept asking all these questions about what I was playing. Sorta uncomfortable. I told him it was anime and he probably wouldn't like it.

My mom looks at me funny when I play Windwaker right now. I guess it doens't help when I move my hands with the playing Windwaker.
She probably doesn't like the childish-looking graphics.

I used to feel Uncomfortable playing games in front of my wife when we were newly married. No we're a kick ass Halo 2 team lol
I think the most embarrasing moment I had was playing a Hentai Game Called Three maids or something similar. I liked it So much I was telling my wife about it untell I relized I was getting the Look. I then had to explain I liked it for the game not the Edited Hentai shots.
I love my wife hehe
