Wow. This is madness. Basically, the guy did a time attack replay that plays both Mega Man X and Mega Man X2 AT THE SAME TIME and beats them both. Mind you, this is a tool-assisted recording, meaning things like slow-mo and save states are abused heavily to create a "perfect" run, but I've certainly never seen anything like a simultaneous time attack. This is the equivalent of wiring a single controller to a pair of SNESes and beating both games with it at the same time. Except that the person "playing" is an infallible robot.

Yes, it's absolutely awesome.

Also, before anyone does it, any talk of "fake" and "cheated" only makes the speaker out to be an idiot. The runs are made with unmodified ROMs and without cheat codes (except those which increase difficulty). The runs could theoretically be played back on real hardware, given that you wired up both the reset circuit and the controller inputs to a PC. This would fall apart in situations where the emulator is too inaccurate (for example, Famtasia does not exhibit lag where FCEU and a real NES do). But, it is technically possible, although noone has done it before.

Local H is right, if anyone says "omg fake" or "cheating" you are an idiot. Everything executed in these time attack videos is humanly possible, just extremely difficult.

OMG that is so fake, the person who made it is obviously cheating!!! LOL

In all seriousness though, I am much more impressed by the videos that are made using actual hardware, even if they aren't quite as amazing.
Does anyone know if that Super Mario 64 was made on an emulator, or was it made on an actual N64?

What are you guys using to view the movie. Every program I try asks me for a codec and then fails when searching for it online.

Download the Divx codec for Windows Media Player/Realplayer

Yep, got all of that already. Thanks though :)

Finally after some long searching I tracked down the problem. If anyone else is having a problem viewing the movie try downloading this file:

http://www.videosoftinc.com/pub/vssh3dec.exe

That fixed my problem immediately.

I'll check out the movie tomorrow...now its time for sleep -_-

another good codec for these files is "fddshow"

It uses h264 for the codec, which is why it looks so beautiful for the extremely small filesize.

You can use VideoLAN Client (http://www.videolan.org/) to play it back if you're too lazy to install any codecs or you can use FFDShow (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/ffdshow.cfm) if you're not.

The video's encoding impressed me enough that I've started using x264 (http://x264.nl/) for my own recordings (depending on the video) and I'm loving it. Nothing like dropping out a 900kbps x264 encode at 640x480 that looks even better than a 1200kbps XVID encode at the same resolution :)

Also, this is the best damn tool assisted video I've ever seen.

Wow, so he really uses one controller movement to move two guys, as in both Megaman's are moving synchronously? @_@

Basically. The way it works is, you have one controller input movie, one sequence of button presses. This movie completes both games without modification.

This would be a prime run to put on a multi-angle DVD-9. Have three different "angles" - one being MMX1, one being MMX2, and one being both on the same screen.

Cool website, nice to see speedruns posted which say flatout "We are using save-states and slo-mo" instead of finding them linked somewhere else claiming to be real :)

So if I'm reading this right, and I can't download the needed files to watch the video because I'm at work, both MMX1 and 2 can be completed by inputting the exact same sequence of button presses.

I guess if you think about it, does that make them like the same game? The board layouts would have to be almost identical or else one of the Mega Men would be landing in pits while the other landed on a platform, right.

I don't think so, does he lose lives in one game periodically and what if at one point one megaman is walking into a wall while the other is still walking towards a wall then timeing it to jump over the wall syncronously, it's all very possible and different layouts at the same time.

Watched it earlier and its pretty crazy.

Definitely worth the download.

I love towards the end of X2 when he's just fire uppercutting the bosses...kills them in one hit 8-)

I'd love to see it, but I don't deal with torrents. IMO, using save states and such doesn't really do anything for me, just downgrades my thoughts on the initial run. :/

just watched it. it's pretty insane. just to see some one play one of those games that fast would be amazing, but both at the same time @_@

I've never seen that happen, actuallly, except when the speedrun fad started with that Mario video...

I'm not sure anyone can top this. MMX 1, 2, and 3 maybe?

Shit, why not beat Nijnja Gaiden an Rygar at the same time?....damn.

I don't know about you, but I'd love to see a Pac-Man + Ms. Pac-Man video, or something of that nature.

That was pretty cool... I don't like time-attacks that use emulators.. but this one (like everybody said) is different.
Very Origional 8-)
