So I recently picked up "Wizardy: Tale of the Forsaken Land". Actually found it new in a GS, and I am an RPG fan, especially of a nice dungeon crawl, so I picked it up. Played it for a few hours, left it on pause for a while, came back and rebooted my PS2.....

Strange noises come from it, and after the 'Playstation 2' screen I get a red 'please insert a PlayStation or PlayStation 2 Disc". ??? So I open the top, and lo and behold the disc is mauled. I'm sure it fixable with a good buffing, but I'm not anywhere near a place with a disc buffer. Besides, is it really too much to expect my PS2 to not eat my disc in the first place? The game's not super common, and what if were something rarer like my Suikoden II or Rez or the like.

IS there someone I can punch or something? I've never had another disc based system eat anything before. GRR!

Ive had my new Slimline PS2 for over a month now and no problems so far other than it would not load the flatout demo on a recent PSmagazine demo disc.

It works fine with my old PSone games including the oldest PSX game I have the Raiden Project long jewel box.

I have a friend that bought one when they were first released and hes had major problems like: no longer plays DVD movies and wont load some games like Manhunt and a few others but He keeps the freakin lid open on the thing all the time and never cleans his CDs or games or DVDs and wonders why stuff doesnt work x_x

There is a possibility that you didnt have the game pushed in all the way with all the pins all locked into place (the small bearings that hold the disc into place in the middle) I did that the first day I had the system and should have known better since I have used a Dreamcast for the last 6 years :/

Havent had anything like that happen; in fact, Ive had the slimline since last November & it plays Silent Hill & BRAHMA Force great- which my Launch Day PS2 NEVER liked.

Yup, that sounds like the problem. I've had the PSTwo since the original launch (and a launch day PS2 before that) and I've had zero problems except for one. I put MGS3 in and as sabre2922 said, it wasn't snapped down level. The PSTwo made strange noises and the load screen took FOREVER so I quickly popped it open and noticed the disc SLIGHTLY ajar - no damage however.

You have to make sure that you have the disc in all the way. Also I always give the CD a quick half spin clockwise after I put it in, just to make sure the little gripper on the right side is sitting against the disc properly.

Yah, I am sure that was the problem, too. I'm just mad at myself now!!! ;) Oh well, at least it's the first time i've done it to a disc in thousands of hours of play over the years... (ruined a few 2600 cartridges in my childhood, tho)
