View Full Version : Madden 2006, preparing?

Ok. Before the EA is evil deal...

Who here is ready to lose chunks of their life units to the football game of license ;)

Seriously. I have lost too much time to the franchise period. Yes there were some seasons that lacked... but sniff, sniff. Do you smell what EA is cooking? It's a long time and a long way from the ambulance rolling onto the field (and then NOT collecting up the injured party). Ahhh the memories. One on one, co-op. Solo vs. comp. Playoofs. Feels like yesterday Aikman got injured and I almost turned my PS2 into PS.5 and then some (I had the right to be pissed, when Jason Garret is your next in line... it's your RIGHT!). Or the time my memory card ditched approximately 15-20 season of 2005 (not bitter at all, really). Or the first or most recent time I played the near unplayable DS version.

I remember all of them, I do!

NCAA 2006, check. Madden 2006 soon to be check.

Are you in the game? I for one am. For better or worse.

On a tangent, how bad was Elway football on the NES. Not a question, so much as it is a statement :/ .

Yeah I'm preparing.....

Preparing to be dissapointed.

I just rented NCAA 06 for the XBOX, and I'm already dissapointed. I was trying to get myself prepared to make the switch from Visual Concepts 2Kseries to Madden.

But if NCAA 06 is anything to go by, they are using that same crappy engine that I just can't stand.

I hate those cartoonish type characters that they have. A NFL sim should have realism dripping all over it. Like the 2K, ESPN series from Visual does.

Man, this is making me cringe at the prospect of Madden for the 360. They definitely need to have a totally new game engine for Madden on the 360, it's a necessity that they can't avoid. The only thing is, I think it will likely be a rushed product. Similar to the first Madden on the 3DO and on the Nintendo 64. Both of those first Maddens for those two systems had a very rushed feel to them, that made you think that they were just doing what they needed to do to get the game up and running on a new platform, but they left alot of the production values off of the product until the next version on that new system.

I have to believe that the only way I'm actually going to get to play a truly next gen Madden on the 360 this November is if Microsoft is paying EA 50 million dollars to have a Madden on the 360 this November.

That's the only thing that makes sense to me, because if they weren't substidizing it, then certainly Sony would be paying EA to wait for 2006.

I'm looking forward to seeing what's different but I have 2005 so I'm not planning on buying anything new. It will inspire me to play 2005 again though :)

I'm really looking forward to NHL 06 and it's competition. I haven't bought an NHL game since the 2002 stuff and the time is now unless they don't incorporate the upcoming rules changes. I can wait one more year if I have to.

AMEN bro... EA isn't evil, they just make an inferior football product, and had to eliminate their competition some way... oh well... I get to wait 8 or so years for my next football game, until then, make mine 2k please,

Madden > 2k series

And I'm not buying Madden this year, not enough time to play seasons of football games.

Hell yes. :D

Football is my favorite sport and I buy almost all of the football games that come out each year.

First, I LOVE NCAA 2006. It's BETTER then last year.

Second, the graphic engine is GOOD. I don't know WHAT you are smoking, but on my XBox and High Def TV it looks great.

Third, Madden has always used a different engine anyway -- which looks like it got changed quite a bit.

I play the game SO much I'll have no problem getting my money worth out of it. I'll even import my rosters from NCAA into Madden so I can keep playing the same guys. :)

I love football in general. I play it, watch and play videogames of it. I buy any and all football games that come out and can usually get some enjoyment out of all of them. Madden is the only one left that's gonna give me good football sim action so each year I'll be buying EA's product.

I only play NCAA. How many times can you play the same match up online? People only seems to use the top 5 teams oline. 2k5 and Madden are both ok, but they only have 32 teams to choose from. NCAA over 100. I do not see how playing with the same teams over and over is any fun. But then people ask me how I can play 4 seasons of college football with UAB Blazers. To each his own.

I buy a new football game about 1ce every 3-4 years. I have Madden '04 and last year's ESPN game, so I'm set until like the 3rd year of PS3 football games.

I voted for PS1 in the poll because I wasn't into football games on the Genesis. Now Hockey, that's another thing. NHL '95 is still awesome. I played 2001 on the PS2 and never bought another hockey game. It's that bad.

Where's the "waiting for the 360 version" option on the poll? I'm trying to hold off until that comes out, but it's not going to be easy.

Unless they get rid of that "slippery" feel in Madden in the next gen, I won't be buying.

I hate the EA with a passion and refuse to support them directly. If they somehow make a game that looks like it may be fun I'll only pick it up used so EA won't get my money.

Well, it's been ridiculously hectic lately so my malfunction is believeable.

I doubt I'll get it, I'm still having fun with 2K5, and since I'm not a die hard football fan I have no real reason to switch. I'll probably pick up NCAA 06 though.

SoulBlazer

See, it that's whole 'I hate (this company) and won't buy any of their games' attitude that pisses me off.

A lot of franchises have changed companies over the years. Every company has made both good and bad games.

It's totally FOOLISH and reeks of being a fanboy to boycot ALL games from one company. We're susposed to be GAMERS. We care about the GAMES, not who MAKES them.

Besides, most companies are just publishing the games these days -- it's small groups who are actually making them. That's another reason why you can't just look at the company on the box -- chances are they had very little to do with the making of said game.

To bring this back on topic --

NCAA 2006 has a small video clip of Madden this year. It looks very good. One new feature is the 'quarterback vision' where your QB can look to the left or right and have a 'cone' on the field. If you throw the ball in the cone, that means a higher chance of success with your pass, just like real life.

Also, there was a clip for a Arena Football game due out in the winter. That looks pretty good also. :)

I was so mad when EA got the exclusive NFL license. NFL 2K5 is hands down the best football game I've ever played. I'm still having fun with NFL 2K5's season, and I look forward to the drafts at the end of the seasons.

Don't get me wrong, though. I'll rent Madden to give it a fair chance. To be honest, it looks good enough to buy, but we'll see if it can even get on the same level as 2K5, which I doubt.

Yeah, true. It's just that, I don't like Madden's gameplay as much as 2k5's. It's just a personal preference. It's a shame the NFL couldn't let there be a little video game competition between Visual Concepts and EA.

I won't be losing any chunks of life to Madden 06. However, EA will still see some cash from me, as two of their upcoming titles (Need For Speed Most Wanted and Burnout Revenge) will probably take the chunks of life in Madden's place.

I wish I could say I was getting ready to enjoy Madden ... but I just can't stand the A.I. that EA uses with these current Madden games. They need to do away with the whole comeback A.I. crap that they use to make the games more competitive. Nothing is more frustrating than that feeling of dread you get when you're ahead by 10 in the 4th quarter with about two minutes left, and suddenly the Gods of Madden A.I. come raining down from the Heavens and completely shut down every move you try to make. You haven't fumbled all game, you're running the clock down with your most reliable ball carrier, then, all of the sudden, he's gets brushed up against and fumbles, which their linebacker then picks up while you're frantically trying to chase after him with your offensive linemen and/or quarterback. I can feel my blood pressure rising just thinking about it.

I really, really want to like Madden ... but nothing makes me madder than that A.I. More power to those that do enjoy it though, I wish I could, too.

I'm thinking about being a little less sportsgamephobic and giving Madden a try. I've got Madden '97 for Saturn, after all.

And as far as the whole EAvil thing goes, well, I've got 14 games in my collection from EA (about 3% of my total). As it happens, all were purchased used or received as gifts, but that's more a function of me being a cheap bastard than from any principled boycott stance.

My EA games: Battle Garegga (Sat), Battle Stations (PS), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Xbox), FIFA '98: The Road to the World Cup (Sat), Madden '97 (Sat), Magic Carpet (PS), Medal of Honor (PS), Medal of Honor: Frontline (PS2), NHL '94 (Gen), Soviet Strike (Sat), Starflight (Gen), Syndicate Wars (PS), Viewpoint (PS)

IGN's Madden '06 review:
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/639/639607p1.html

I never like this type of review. I understand their points and issues with the games, but the "review" itself is too mixed. At times it points out lowlights and detractions that seem to spell out this game = crap. Then however, they roll out the but we digress portion. For all the issues they pointed out I find it hard to believe their number rating system or their application of it (number systems obviously are interpretational but how can the game be so good yet so uninspired and still get 8.8).

While I can't stand sports games, my brother is ALL ready for it. Him and his friends play it Non-stop.
I only like extreme type and basketball sports games. I used to love them until one day I was like, "wow, my whole library is sports games, I need to try something new". Never looked back since.
