View Full Version : What system would you like to see a new homebrew for?

Me, it's an easy one: my beloved Odyssey2. Yes, I know there's already four but, heck, there are at least 20 atari homebrews. Anyway, how could John Dondzila do a port of Berzerk! for the O2 and not use the Voice?

So tell me, what system would you like to see a new homebrew for?

Virtual Boy. Even if it's a cheapy Pong clone, I'd love to see someone master the dual-lenbs 3D programming.

And I'd love to see more Colecovision stuff.

As long as it's good. There's a lot of tech demos out there, and also a lot of crappy games, too. I want to see a GOOD NES homebrew.

Sega CD, not a lot has been done with it AFAIK.

Snes, of course. However, snes programming is still very limited, far behind the nes.

I agree I would love to see homebrew Snes games.

Me too... I love the VB, unfortunately there's not enough homebrewers for the system. I've got a few games in the works, and a few simple ones that I've released, and a few other people have released a some. I think the most complete list all in one place is here: http://www.vr32.de/spiele/selfmade/index.e.htm . The Pat Daderko ones are mine (go ahead, tell me they suck ;) ).

A nice dreamcast one. Feet of Fury, etc. are really neat, but I'm after something a little more traditional.

Man, where's the Studio II lovin'?

(Just kidding.) :P

Seriously, I'm torn between O2 and Vectrex.

genesis and sega cd games. with sega cd in particular as distribution and production costs would be next to nothing, and redbook audio by an indie band for instance, could make for a memorable experience

Sega CD, an update of a short, older rpg would be sweet.

That or do an intellivision tower of doom type/platformer hybrid.... Damnit just do an intv game.

3DO people! Its CD based so it would be easy to make. I believe ther are quite a few dev kits floating around. Its got plenty of horsepower for sprites. Great audio abilities. Whats not to love? I'd love to see a nice old school shump.

NES. And SMS. And.. I better stop now.

But I've learned that the only way to make stuff happen the way you want, is to do it yourself, heheh.

Gotta start somewhere.

I've been waiting for an NES homebrew since I first learned about homebrewing... so that's what I want. A current-culture NES RPG would be fanTAStic.

Though SNES and Genny homebrews would also kick some serious ass.

A new Inty game. Port TRON arcade or something.

Vectrex.

I'm waiting for Alex Herbert's new maze game that can be played by linking two Vectrexes together.

Of course, he's also hinted at working on a Sinistar homebrew for the Veccy, which would be amazing!

Wasn't somebody working on a Super Mario Bros. Homebrew for the Colecovision? Man, that would be sweet!

I'd love to see a Sega 32x CD game! The 32x had a lot of untapped potentail, and the Sega CD format would bypass the expense of putting together a cartridge.

I'd love one for the Entex AdventureVision. I was really hoping for one after the MESS driver was released but nothing yet.

I started re-doing the graphics for Space Force years ago but never got around to finishing(or seriously starting for that matter). It wasn't going to be anything fancy... just re-worked graphics.

While I know that this is presently impossible, I'd love to see a homebrew DS game or games.

I think that homebrew programmers would do significantly more interesting things with the hardware than Nintendo is willing to try.

Barring the DS, I'd like to see some homebrew 2D games on Saturn or Dreamcast, preferably shooters.

Actually, there are quite a few DS homebrews. A website with "NDS" and "Updates" in its name is one such place to find 'em. Unfortunately, you need to tamper with your DS firmware to use them.

What's more traditional than puzzlers and dancing games? ;)

Whatever your answer, I can all but guarantee that there is one under development right now to fill your wishes... although it won't be a "homebrew," but another full release.

Definitly SNES and Genesis, and maybe more NES ones.

The Maze Demo looks a-Maze-ing. :)
I remember seeing someone using a cable to link Vectrex's together, at a CGE show (maybe 2003?). I think it was a Battlezone type game, called UTG. The game looked good, but I haven't heard anything since then.

Excellent!

Dreamcast homebrews would be my fav. Someone hinted that 3 are almost ready, with 8 more coming!

I'm guessing that whomever you are, you were at the Video Game Summit this weekend and I talked to you about our games because I spent a bunch of time there explaining why I don't consider our releases homebrew ;)

Or you just pay enough attention to other message boards...

Either way, you're right :)

Three full releases have already been made, and there are at least another 8 full releases that I know of that I think will be professionally released within the next couple years.

The Dreamcast homebrew scene is also in really good shape. Stuff for it still comes out nearly weekly, and there are a lot of good smaller games that have come out. A bunch of those smaller games will be compiled into GOAT Games at some point in the near future, and released as another professional release soon.

Keep the Colecovision homebrews coming.
The system never had a chance to truly blossom in the eighties.
In a parallel universe, the crash never came and Colecovision ruled for a generation.
