i found one today that had the company as Big Five Software instead of Reston. text from cart...

Reston published both C64 and Vic20 versions on cart to my knowledge (though it isn't mentioned on either the Vic20 cart or the C64 cart). You just need to see the box (which is on my site here http://www.mayhem64.co.uk/box/miner_2049er.jpg ).
I think Reston might have been a "label" of CompuVid...

oh, ok. i was wondering because i think the last one i saw said copyright reston instead of BFS.

I've seen three other Vic20 versions of it and several C64 versions of it, and the labels have been all the same. You never know of course though...
All the ones I've seen (admittedly not many) look just like mine:
