Just note that those are renders and that they plan on making a prototype sometime next year.

Also important to keep in mind is that, from the numbers I've heard being tossed around, msrp on this baby is estimated to be between $200-300. That's a lot of cash for a pretty keyboard, though in the gadget-wild world we live in, it should carve out a comfortable niche for itself.

Yeah, i'll have one of those someday, if they don't even become the standard when it gets cheap enough to make...

I just hope the programming software isn't restrictive...I should be able to make that thing open up a browser and do a google search with one button or ect.

edit: now if only they're make joysticks like that for mame....

Few things have struck me as an improvement over standard mouse/keyboard for gaming but this.... is pretty rad ass.

Yea, I saw the site a few weeks ago..
I would be willing to shell out $200 for it.. PC Gamers are always looking for good hardware and if they go through with creating this, it will sell like hotcakes (even at $200). Plus anything is better than that stupid Zgamers keyboard (if you are thinking about buying one of these.. forget about it.. they are crap).

WOW! @_@

What would one of these cost though, that's what you have to ask yourself!

Truly amazing! Although i'd actually have these particular buttons situated at the very top instead of down the side...

Obviously, when the shift (Or CAPS) key is pressed, all the letters on the keyboard display would change from upper to lowr case! Amazing!

Jesus I'm oldschool. The only thing I keep thinking is that it would be really cool to use on a Commodore 64 emulator.

OK, my question is...is each key a tiny backlit TFT display? What happens when the individual lamps keeping those backlit start burning out?

Just a thought.

It uses OLED. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OLED

I read about this keyboard some days ago and no doubt it looks really cool and its a great idea. But its not really needed to play games. Its more of a cool feature/gadget than useful. I mean, after playing a while you know all the buttons by heart and we have been playing PC games with normal keyboard for over 20 years without any problems :)

I still use a 8 year old keyboard and a old MS intelli mouse for my gaming. If some broke I would try to get exatly the same ;)

wow, definately cool, it WOULD be nifty for the first time you play a game (or if you're on a friend's computer)

sadly, to me, spending the $200-300 for that wouldnt be wise....im kinda accident prone and a klutz...i don't really want to find out what happens when a little coffee hits those keys...

anything is better than that stupid Zgamers keyboard (if you are thinking about buying one of these.. forget about it.. they are crap).

those things look so stupid, and their advertising campaign is riduculous, "WASD sucks". give me a friggin break. is there REALLY that much difference between the "wasd' key layout, and their weird keypad style? not much, except for the fact that you have to change the keypad back every time you want to do normal keyboard work like word or web browsing. this new thing looks, well, expensive, but really cool. i mean, OLEDs under every key? i can imagine a program allowing you to blink the keys in a disco-strobe fashion, and besides, having my weapons hotkeyed in Quake III would rule.
i'll keep my WASD, thank you.

Long live WASD!

Long live Sothy!

It's nice but doesn't seem useful to a hardcore gamer. Any person who is proiffcent at a game doesn't need little pictures to show controls.

After further thought, I've come to the conclusion that what someone really needs to do is make a multi-function MAME cab control panel with this technology.

Holy crap, that rules. I'd never buy one.. but still cool.

Now if they allowed you to independently place every key with complete freedom.... THAT would be a cool keyboard :) As it is tho, $200 would be tempting... if I had a lot of cash to play with of course.

Yea, but I like springy pressy buttons, not those light/quite keys that I assume this has.

Spring action keys > curved rubber pressy contacts.

Jesus I'm oldschool. The only thing I keep thinking is that it would be really cool to use on a Commodore 64 emulator.

Actually I was thinking along the lines of using such a keyboard for an Atari ST emulator (or even an 8-bit atari emulator).

From the company's point of view selling the keyboard to gamers seems like a limited market. No doubt they plan on selling it to other markets.

For example a smaller version of the keyboard could be used for Point of Sale terminals (cash registers). If you order a Big Mac at McDonalds, for instance, they probably just push a button with a paper label over it marked "Big Mac". The new keyboard will have a Big Mac icon. If the menu changes, they just reprogram the menu (or download it from headquarters) instead of fiddling with bits of paper.

Another application would be for control panels of manufacuring equipment (or control panels of Star Ships. :)) where the keys change to fit the needs of the equipment.

There are lots of other applications these keyboard could be used for, I am sure. The mind boggles at the possibilties (my mind anyway).
