A funny thing happenned to me last night at a bar. A guy walked up to me and said, "I know you!" Turns out he remembered me from 14 years ago from a local games rental place I used to hang out at. He was 10 YEARS OLD at the time, and he recognized me instantly!! The place used to let me rent games for free because I'd beat almost all of them in a day, the tougher ones in 2 or 3. I'll never forget when I beat 90 games in one summer back then. He said, "You were my idol back then. I used to tell my mom you were the man, and she had no idea what I was talking about."

The store (RIP) was Computer Junction in Lorden's Plaza in Milford, NH. I used to bike 3 miles each way nearly every day and hang there. They wanted to hire me, but NH law didn't permit 13-14 year-olds to be hired into the workforce. People used to call me at home as if I were a gaming hotline for help with games...sometimes even showing up at my door. I used to help people over the phone beat games I'd never even played in some cases...that was so cool, LOL . Whenever someone called the store for help with a game, they gave my number.

I can barely remember the faces of people I met last week half the time, and this guy remembered me from back then...so strange. Lol, I practically had groupies, HAH!

Unbelieveable!

Hmmm. . . well, letting kids rent games for free doesn't really seem like a recipie for staying open. LOL

Wow, that's pretty awesome man!

I went to a computer show one time, I think my parents had a booth there and they were trying to unload some of the overstock from our computer store there. At the show there were several tables taken up by the local Amiga computer users group. I had never seen an Amiga in person before and I was totally blown away. One was playing Axel F over and over (probably a .MOD), another was showing an old game ... Wind Walker, or something like that. Another had One on One (the basketball game) going. This was pretty early in the Amiga's life.

Anyway, one of the guys is very recognizable. He's probably 6'3" or so, has a bowl haircut like Moe from the Three Stooges and has a broom moustache. I have seen that guy around town probably five or six times and every time I see him I instantly recognize him. I've seen him in computer stores and stuff like that.

Anyway, when I was working at Pizza Inn one time he and a couple of other guys and ordered dinner. When he came up to pay I asked him if it was him and I told him all about playing in the Amiga that day and so we had a good little laugh. So I guess I have the flip story, after a decade I got to meet my idol in a pizza place. :)

I keep forgeting that we grew up almost next to each other, Rob.....

I remember Computer Junction VERY well. For a long time that was my ONE and ONLY place to rent video games at. Mostly NES and SNES stuff. Friendly staff, good selection, and (for the time) VERY good rates. I could get a NES game for $5 for the week!

It was even better then what my Mom could rent games for at her video store, Cinema Scope. ;) But the two stores were really in different markets, anyway.......

Plus I remember when they closed -- I was in high school and not gaming as much then, but I still went in and picked up several games for cheap. :)

Now you have to pay crazy prices to rent from Blockbuster or anywhere else.....

So what's there in the plaza these days anyway? I have'nt been up there in three years.

that's an awesome story thanks for sharing :)

My place where i always use to rent is still in my hometown I still go and buy games there, they are easily one of the best places to get games from

and it's a chain store lol go Microplay :D

but the small town i use to live in the place doesn't rent games anymore which is a crying shame, but that's ok i never visit there anyway.

Not me. When stranger are calling for tips on video games, everybody knows you're a virgin. How embarassing...

*ring-a-ling*

-Hello

"yeah, are you that loser that playes games all day, has pasty white skin and a million zits on his back cause you take a bath once a week so as not to take away your playtime?"

-Uhh, yep that's me!

"You're the man, man! I told my mom you were the man, now she wants to give you a charity boning."

-gee, thanks. Just let me take a shower first.

If I were that pathetic I would shoot myself. :D

Uhh, did you fail to read the entire post? Rob said he was 13-14 during that point in his life. I don't know about you, but to me that age is far too young to be "boning" as you so eloquently put it.

Also way to stereotype an make gross assumptions about something you couldn't possibly have any insight on. If you've come here to discuss games and make friends you've certainly started off on the right foot.

/end rant

Anyway, very cool story Rob. But why did they let you rent games for free? Just because you could beat them insanely fast?
