I'm going to be going on vacation to lake george(upstate NY) sometime this month and I heard that there were a few good arcades there. Has anyone been there, and if so, how were they? If I can hunt down a metal slug and a couple of pinball machines it will be a very good week.

Hmmm... I'm not actually sure about Arcades in that area. I know that is an Arcade inside Great Escape (which I would imagine you are going to), but other than that, I have no idea. I know that down the street from Great Escape there is a really cool Mini Golf Course, maybe there is an Arcade near there, since miniature golf and Arcades are kinda related.
You should also check out the Clothing Outlets. There are some great deals to be had there.
I realize I should know more about Lake George (since I live only 1 hour from there), but for some reason I have only been a few times.

:D I did a double take when I saw your topic. I am about 30 minutes from Lake George. I forget how small a world we live in. I go there quite often(probably 10-15 visits every summer). In fact I might be going there tomorrow if my friend doesn't have to work.

Anyway, there are 3 descent size arcades on the main strip. Not a ton of retro games, but each do have a few if that is what you are looking for. Most of them are loaded with ticket redemption games. All have pinball, crane, skee-ball and air hockey games. Here is the break down. Sorry I don't remember the names of the places. If I go before you I will update this thread with more info.

Arcade #1:

If you heading North up the main street, the first one you come to on the left side is the best in my opinion. It is right on the corner at a traffic light. It probably has a good selection of about 10 pinball machines with some new and some old. Some shooters and a DDR machine. The retro games I can remember are: Ms. pacman, elevator action, toobin and the best of the bunch a sit down afterburner cab!! There are a couple more I just can't remember at the moment.

#2

It Is kiddie corner across the street from the first arcade. It is next to a pizza place and has mini golf. This one is not too great and only has ms pac/galaga new cab for retro stuff. Also has about 5 pinball machines.

#3

Last one is located about 2 traffic lights up from the first one I mentioned. It is on a corner and on the left hand side if you are going north. This one is ok. Don't play the pinball games here as the are set very steep and usually are broken. If you are a pinball freak like me, play the ones in the first arcade. They are set right.
Anyway, this one doesn't have much in the retro game area, but it did have a vintage space invaders last time I checked. It does have a great light gun shooting gallery in it. It has been there for years.

This is just what I can remember from last year. These arcades may have gotten more games in as they tend to get a few different new ones when the tourist season starts.

There are also loose games scattered all around in different stores. In fact there is a gorf machine in one of the ice cream shops on the left had side. This shop has a train set running in it. I don't know how old you are, but a couple of the bars near the water have a few games in them also.

I hope this was helpful. If you have any specific questions please ask me. Like I said, If I go before you I will update this thread. Have fun, It a great place to visit!!! :D

No, i havn't gone yet. I'll be going on Monday next week. Thanks for the info. Afterburner, Galaga and Elevator Action all sound good. And it's nice to know there's a good amount of pinball machines since there are none where I live. I'll also be checking out that Gorf machine and some ice cream while i'm at it.

Also, I know this has nothing to do with video games but do you know of any good places to eat around there?

Hey,

Where do you live exactly? You said you are 30 minutes from Lake George, so you are relatively close to me. I don't think there are many gamers from this area, just you,me, and a guy from Burlington on this site. I live in Plattsburgh.

It is actually about 45 minute from where I live, now that I think about it. I live about 2 hours south of plattsburgh close to Saratoga. I actually went to Clinton Community college a while ago and lived in Plattsburgh while I went there. Small world. :D

REALLY????? I went there too. When did you go? I graduated in December 2004, and started in August 2002.

Maybe you were in some of my classes?
Talk about a REALLY small world!

I live in Albany. My cousins have a camp on Lake George and I spend a lot of time there. My cousin graduated from high school this year and will be going to Plattsburgh for college. Heh, small world indeed.

Anyway, I think the first arcade Masco talked about is called Fun World. It is not a DDR machine there, but a Pump It Up machine. The back also has Arkanoid, Ms. Pac-man, and Galaga. There are mostly redemption games there, but there are some of the more modern VR games and some of the sports simulations (golf, soccer, boxing, etc.) and ski ball. There are several pinball machines, as mentioned. Its not a bad place, and I usually go when I'm up there. Unfortunately, DDR skill does not transfer over to PIU real well, so I'm out of luck. Heh, oh well. The arcade kiddie corner to it has a mario pinball machine, and it uses tokens. I snagged a few tokens for my token collection.

The back also has Arkanoid.

Very nice to know. I don't even want to know how much time and money i'll waste with machine. I love Arkanoid and it's only perfect at the arcade. Right now i'm stuck playing it with an nes controller.

I went there a while ago. I think I graduated in 1998?? Not sure exactly, it has been a while. It was quite a unique little school. It had great views of the Lake. I enjoyed my time there.

Here is an update on some of the games there. As AF giant pointed out, the first place I was talking about is called Fun World: It seems they sold off the elevator action game, but they still have the following:

pac-man, ms pac-man, galaga, millipede, centipede, araknoid, ivan stewart off-road and afterburner cockpit.

They also dumped a couple of pinball machines, but have: Elvis, Sopranos, star trek NG, funhouse and Addams Family. As of yesterday they were all in working order. Elvis and Sopranos I just tried for the first time and I find both of them to be quite fun. Me and my friend are pinball addicts and go there regularly for our fix. Our favorite is the Addams Family. One of my collecting grails is to buy an addams machine. The problem is they still bring about $3000 for one in good working order, so it will take a while to realize that dream.

As far as places to eat, there are a ton. Along the main strip, by the water, just all over. One place I have tried is a place called Sopranos. It has mostly italian style food, appetizers and good pizza. Also, you might want to check out the dinner cruise. I haven't done it yet , but plan to the next time I go. I think It is at 6:30. I believe I was told it is $ 25 bucks per person, but that includes dinner and a boat tour around the lake. You will see the boats down by the water, that is where to buy tickets for it.

I hope this helped you out. Don't foget to report back when you are home. I would like to here your opinion of the place. Monday is a good choice, it gets really crowded on the weekends. Have fun!!!! :D

I went again today and the Gorf machine is in Bob's Ice cream Shop. The same side of the street where the first arcade was. I thought I would specify since there are a ton of ice cream shops. Have fun!

Heh, my brother and his friend are going up tomorrow to spend the night at my cousin's camp.

As for food you can get some good pizza at a place called Pizza Jerks, which is on the strip of stores across the street from Fun World.
