I bought a lot of Megadrive games at a car boot sale about a month ago. One of them was NBA Jam. I don't like sports games so I put it away on the shelf and forgot about it. Yesterday I decided to play it, instead of leaving it to gather dust. Upon closer inspection the cartridge said Genesis down the side of the sticker. I thought that was odd but tried it anyway. My megadrive is unmodded. Lo and behold, it worked.

My question is do all the pal NBA Jam cartridges say genesis on them? I'm not suggesting I've found something rare, it just seems strange.

I can only speak for my cartridge... which doesn't have "Genesis" down the side of it.

Well I've never noticed that before. The EA games say "For use with the Sega Genesis".

I mean the model number of the Megadrive. You can find it under. Looks like 1600 i.g

What does that have to do with his question?

There is a lot of games which don't have any region protection on the Megadrive / Genesis, I always played a lot of Pal games on my Nomad without problems, although there was a number which didn't work.

'tis true. Almost all pre-'93 1st Party games are universal, aswell as a fair number of 3rd Party releases.
As hydr0x said, EA even just used Genesis carts for most (but not all) of their MD games.
