A good way to get imports is buying them off forums like this, winning auctions at Ebay or Yahoo Japan, Using specialty sites like National Console Support (http://www.ncsx.com/) or Video Game Depot (http://www.videogamedepot.com/shop/index.asp?bhcp=1), or know someone in a foreign country who will buy some for you.

I don't know.. probably by just using the Gameshark as a boot disk.

I think the only reason you use a gameshark is for cart-style consoles. The reason for that is because the imported games usually have a different shape of a cart, and therefore don't fit into the slot. A gameshark just poses as a medium between the console and the game.
I think thats right... I don't have any imports...

think of it as long term hobby - like stamp collecting...
I've been into the collecting games for last decade or so... and still can't see the end of it since there's always things I need to get, haven't seen before anc etc... 8-)

What about modding a slim PS2?

Pretty sure all you need is a boot disk. After all, It's not like you'd need to do a flip-top mod on the slim model seeing as the system already opens from the top.

Yup, works like a champ. I got my slim PS2 modded and can play any region, PAL/NTSC, etc. All my NTSC/U games and NTSC/J games play just great.

So only boot disk is required for the slim PS2?

if you can afford the $250-350 PS2Test would be the way to go... this is the unit developers are using to test the final code and as such it doesn't have media checking nor region checking. It does lack the DVD video playback but nowadays this shouldn't be of any concern given the cheap price of dvd players... and being official dev machine from SONY you don't have to worry about those issues associated with mod'd PS2...

the hardest part would be to find the reliable source for this one and I'd recommend PAL PS2 if your TV supports as this will have higher compatibility in terms of PS1 playback - yep it plays all regions PS1 titles including "back-up"... :p
