Daggerfall. Probably the only RPG I've ever been THAT into. I remember that my brother bought it way back around when it was released (I think its been 10 years... wow) and I loved it. Was never very good at it, but it was still fun. A couple days ago, I saw a copy of it for $2, but passed on it because I had no cash with me. I see them going on eBay for $30+, so now I kinda wish I had gotten it to relive the past, so to say. I think I'm going to go back as soon as I can and see if its still there. Hopefully it is. Anyone else love this classic?

I found a copy a fe months ago and was ecstatic. Soon picked up morrowind (the complete set with expansion packs), but have not wanted to play either until I found a copy of Arena, which also sells for big $$$. Now with the next sequael coming out in a couple months I feel like I'm way, way, behind.

I remember watching a friend play Arena and how much he enjoyed it, and have heard that the series has gotten better with each release...

Arena is actually Freeware now, so if you want to download it, you dont need to feel guilty at all. But, I dont think you will ever really 'beat' Daggerfall. Its rediculously long.

Wow someone else that shares my love for this game! Yes Daggerfall is great. When it was released there was nothing like it, and I still love it so much even today. I was first exposed to it when i was around 8, when I used to spend the night at my friends house alot. All i wanted to do is play the Daggerfall demo that he had, and all he wanted to do was play Heroes of Might and Magic II. I had to wait till he fell asleep to play Daggerfall, but it was worth it. Years later I got my first computer and I already had a copy of Daggerfall ready before I bought the computer LOL .

Oh man, Daggerfall. Cool game, buggy, but cool. One of the neat things about all of the main Elder Scrolls games was that you could hoof it to all the cities rather than "warp" and be able to find cool stuff on the way (dungeons, caves and other whatnots) rather than be totally empty wasteland.

Another cool thing was that this game was a "sandbox" before the term was even coined. Kill innocent people? No prob, just beware of the law. Steal stuff? Yep, can do. Break into buildings? Oh yeah. Sometimes I kinda wonder where Fable got its inspiration from :D .

Well, this name that I'm using right now was concocted about 8 years ago so that I would have something fantastical to use as a nickname in the chatroom that used to be on Daggerweb... does that answer your question? :P

This game had a huge effect on me. I've never been, before or since, completely immersed in a game world the way I was when I first played that game. Granted, it was just the demo, which encompassed the relatively small(but certainly more expansive than anything I had ever experienced) island of Betony. By the time I had actually gotten my hands on the full game, some of the mystique was gone, and I was well-aware that it was mostly just randomly generated towns, cities, and dungeons, but that still didn't keep me from being absolutely taken over with the game for a few years after that.

This game ruled me for a long time. As someone mentioned it was buggy as hell, but that didn't stop me from playing it over and over again. Funny thing is I never did beat it, came very close a couple times but never did. Some memories that stand out:

Finding out you could turn into a vampire by mistake once in a dungeon. Getting freaked out that I had a vamp hunter on my ass all the time. Dying a stupid death: forgot vamps can't enter churchs without getting hurt, died, forgot to save after turning into vamp, never could turn again.
Being a werewolf sucked.
Clearing many rats out of peoples attics for quests (and the occasional bear O_O )
Finding a witch and doing a quest for the gods(?), different one each month in game.
Spending hours just running across the map, hoping to stumble across something special that wasn't on the map.
Stripping my girl character (dark elf i believe) down to nothing :embarrassed:

.....

Dammit, I should really pull this game out again :P

Does anybody have a link for a site that has a comprehensive set of Daggerfall addons and patches?

This is one of the best rpgs ever on pc. While I hated morrowind at first because it was nothing like Daggerfall, I've actually come to like it more than Daggerfall, and I think it's a much better game. Daggerfall still holds a special place in my heart though. The game is very long but the main quest is not too bad. Personally, I think it's much shorter than doing some of the rediculous amounts of quest in the guilds to reach some of the top ranks. I loved the fact that you could also own real estate in the game as well as a horse and a freaking ship. What other RPG at the time had that much to offer??

Hopefully they bring in some of the awesome stuff that was in Daggerfall to Oblivion and make the ultimate TES game in the series ;D. I recently read that Patrick Stewart would be the voice of emperor Uriel Septim, which is pretty cool. Kind of throws me back to Lands of Lore, hehe. One thing I liked about Daggerfall were the different endings. The one I went with was helping the King of Worms become a God. Pretty interesting ending.

Yes for me too Daggerfall was a game I was totally immersed
in. I don't think there has really been a game since that I was
that obsessed with because of the way time commitments
change as I finished school, got my own place and got into
the workforce.

My favorite moment was when I turned into a wereboar. It
was a total mindblower that this could happen.

The mini-missions were a little tedious and the random
dungeon generator wasn't that great. But the major quests
were quite well done.
