Oh, now that is the shit. I LOVE that black finish -- always wanted a black GP32..... Must find one for sale.... Is that already for sale in Korea?

Not so big on the DRM, but hey I rip my own music anyway... Backwards compatible with GP32 software/emulators/etc?

Check the site for all your questions, that's the best info you'll be able to find.

The site was launched today so I wouldn't expect a release on the thing anytime soon (well not until the holidays at least).

A completely pointless piece of hardware -- and this is coming from someone who bought a GP32 before almost anyone had heard of one.

Without the GP32 homebrew scene, that machine would have died within a month. There are essentially no games for it, unless you count Korean RPGs (no, I don't need a list of all the games). The point is 99% of what's on everyone's GP32 is either emulators or homebrew games/apps.

There's no way I'd drop another dollar into that company, not unless we're talking a US release with some sort of actual backing behind it. Otherwise, I'll stick to the original, or pick up a PSP which will probably be comparable in price and has a wicked screen.

Which is exactly why the system is so sweet, you can take any game from the 16 bit era and before with you at anytime.

The PSP does that and more.

Yes, but unlike the PSP, homebrew is encouraged. Also, it appears to be more powerful, especially if you can overclock it like you could with the 32.

Yeah except for all those, you know, firmware updates.

Hell, I'll throw my PSP away just to get one of those babies. I haven't used my PSP in more than a month and emulator support seems to be dwendling with the new 2.00 firmware.

Hasn't the 2.0 firmware been out for like 3 days? Kinda premature to say that emulator support is dwindling.

This GamePark thing looks pretty cool, but I wouldn't buy it at launch, for the reasons Flack listed. If it were fairly inexpensive (like $150), and it has a full complement of really good emulators, then I would consider buying it and upgading the firmware on my PSP. Until then, my PSP stays at 1.50.

Holy shittaki, that thing is sexay 8-)

How much do u think this will retail for

It won't really 'retail.' If it's anything like the GP32, you'll have to order it directly from Korea.

My guess is it'll range from $250 to $400. However the site says "afforadable" but this is pretty much a PSP and Sony is taking a hit with that, profit wise, so I can't see it being any lower then one.

Maybe this'll make a GP32 more affordable for me now. ;)

Nope. I only have one game. None of the games available for it have kindled my intrest.

They have a official forum on gpx2.com and they answer questions. This nice litte thing will be under 200$ and will be released in october.

Actually, you do need a list of the games! Out of the ones released there were quite a few good games!

Im guessing from your point of view/how you worded that, you never played any of the commercial releases!

Sure the homebrew scene kept it alive, but despite that, the Commerical Games were great (despite hard to aqquire)
And to be honest i think Non KoreanRPGS are out weighed by the number of Non RPG games to be honest...

For example...

Dungeon and Guarder

http://www.insertcredit.com/features/gp32guide/img/dag_4.gif
A great Golden Axe style game...

GP Fight

http://www.insertcredit.com/features/gp32guide/img/gpf_2.jpg
An awesome cutesy brawller, bloody hard though!

Little Wizard

http://www.insertcredit.com/features/gp32guide/img/lwz_4.gif
A great handheld fighter!

Tomak: Save The Earth Again

http://www.insertcredit.com/features/gp32guide/img/tom_2.jpg
A Great, but hard Shump

Obviously i havent played ALL the games, but i can guarantee its not a useless piece of hardware and i doubt the GPx2 will be...

Sure this is jsut my opinion and feel free to rub it in my face if the GPX2 does fail, but for now i think you have a totally wrong outlook on the GP32 personally...

If the GPX2 is anything like the 32 i will be more than pleased!

So my last question is, what commercial games have you actually played?

So my last question is, what commercial games have you actually played?

Most of them, and all the ones you listed.

Look, I'm not one to stand around and try to tell people what they should or shouldn't buy. I think all of you who are excited should all buy one. What I'm saying is that from my personal experience, I wouldn't buy another system that RELIES so heavily on the homebrew scene. The first six months I had my GP32, there was very little to do with it other than play the Pinball Illusions demo and some Asteroids clone.

Gamepark has no US presence, so my friends who bought one that had bad screens or bad buttons had to spend a lot of money and wait a long time to ship them back for repairs. GP's QA was not very good the first time around. It was like every single one was different. "My joystick is crooked." "Well my B button doesn't work." "Well my unit has dirt particles in it." It was like every one sold had a different problem.

I hope all you guys who are excited about it buy one and it works out great and you all love it. Personally, I don't see what it does that's so great. I wouldn't buy one for at least a year, just to see how the homebrew scene is. If all the coders leave for the PSP or DS or other handhelds, good luck getting programs for it.

I did some more carefull reading

here is what they say about video play back

Replays MPEG, XviD, WMV DivX format digital contents up to 720*480 pixels and supports caption.

here is what they say about getting 8 hrs of it

you can watch 320*240(30frame) of video file for approximately 8 hours

so in order to get 8hrs you have to reduce the size

Makes sense. Less movement = less powerusage :)
But I wonder how the background light is. If you can use it in the dark or if its like the GBA screen.

Yeah I never got in on the original GP32, I plan on getting the new unit for sure! In the meantime I just prepaid for one of the last GP32 bundled packs being offered on Ebay here:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8219660888

Figure I can enjoy this in the meantime then it will be a great backup unit once I get the newer model! Can hardly wait..............
