oh now this post gets some responses :) - now ill have to go through my stuff - Ive procrastinated all summer.
well im thinking that it would probbaly be best to set something up in the center of CT to be fair to all
what were you all thinking - parking lot?, park?, flee market somewhere? den of debauchery :drinking: :whip: ?
i hope the items i have for trade are things someone may want
also if anything does happen well get to see whos buying up all the frekin games from all the shops
edit : please make recomendations that are in safe areas

I would be interested in going, as far as where? I would think a park is probably best, although a brothel, or bar would be nice, but not condusive to gametrading. So a park would be my best recommendation.

even a room in a flea bag motel
how about this why dont all interested people state what part of CT they are closest to like nw,n,ne,e,se,s,sw,w

I live in Norwalk. Also, I just sold a game to another forum member, and when I saw his address on the paypal payment, he too lived in norwalk! I guess there are more people around here than I thought.
On a different note, do you guys have much luck when you go out "hunting" for videogames? I don't know if it is just me, but it seems bone-dry around here, for anything older than Playstation 2.

i live in southern ct
it seems like more and more people from CT are poping up around here -- everytime someone has a sale going on the clerks tell me and my buddy "others have already been here" buying up all the stuff
SO I KNOW WHO YOU GUYS ARE !!! - just joking - im guilty of buying up all the stuff as well
the shops my buddy and i do our rounds at often times seem bone dry and the once in a while someone will trade in a ton of old stuff
what erks me is when im in the shop and someone is trying to trade in something old and get offered like 5$ for all the stuff they get disapointed and say " i was hoping for at least 15$ " and walk away and sometimes ill make an offer like which is double what they said they wanted and they wont take it and act all nervous like it a drug deal or something

I would go and bring 5 collectors with me.
you need to set it up so the locals of the town your
throwing it in will attend and bring stuff to trade
or your looking at a very crummy swap.
And what about a game tourney, and maybe food.
WHERE do you wanna have it? i have connections that
could make this happen alot smoother ... i dont want any credit for it either.
ALSO
You may wanna let the local game shops in on it.

all i was thinking of was just something small
in a spot fair to all
i wasnt realy thinking of some big event inluding buisness, prizes, and food
organizing something like that would take alot of resources
in our area i would think the philly classic is the new england gaming expo - i didn't realy think starting up a new one would be successful
im not against the idea - i just feel it would be a major undertaking for one person to do -- mabey all of us that are interested can discuss this
what does everyone else think ?
a couple years ago i was willing to try something bigger and had a place in mind - no one was interested then (well i think one other CT resident was interested) and the hall has since been converted into a club
i realy didn't think the CT scene was that big - especialy when talking about it in the game shops

Yeah it's a pain, 4 hours drivin, plus when you hit NY and whatnot.
I always made the trip to NJ at 10pm so the roads and highways were clear for the most part.

My friend rented space in a hotel resort lobby.
Alot of people showed up, minimal food and drink.
alot of import trading, some gaming .
I would never step up to the plate to organize a swap meet
unless i could fund it myself. I don't like counting on other people to come up with the loot because they are comming to swap instead of buy which shows you what kind of peeps they are.
Dont get me wrong, i have alot of gamer friends that blow big coin on games but i still would rather set it up myself .
If i were to have a swap meet, I would advertise it at all the game stores and computer shows.
Then i would get the keys to my moms hall and set up tables, PA , projector, some food tables , arrange for hotel stays for visitors.
It wouldnt cost that much, heck you could even raffle something off and make alittle money back.
Im not pitching my own game party/swap/meet but
Your asking us what we think , and this is my opinion.

what you described is not a swap meet in my view of swap meets
i called it a swap meet becasue all i was thinking about was a bunch of people with some boxes tradeing stuff
what you described is what id call a convention
and origianly while back when i wanted to do something bigger it was just that - a little extra fun in addition to tradeing and i could have gotten the 2 halls i was considering easily - now its a diferent story
is that what everyone else expected ? like what Hu6800 described ?

I would be interested in maybe a combination of a swap meet/convention. I wouldn't want too many people, but it would be nice if there were enough to play some games and maybe have a competition or two. I would rather get to know who I am trading with (read: you guys), rather than just go around talking to a bunch of people I won't remember.

Who wants to have a CT Meet?????
HOW FAR is everybody from HARTFORD CT?
I can't see having a game meet in PA or philly...
Then it would be a PA meet and im not driving 5 hours dude lol.
This is the part where we (Members from CT) should
start contacting eachother and working this out by phone.
Because game collecting and hardcore gaming is so "Undergroundish" it's the only way to organize
Meets , swaps, game parties , info
I can only offer support if it happens close to where i live.
but i do have a big place to hold a meet and i only have game collectables and PCEngine stuff to trade/sell

Ok check this out...
Not to offend anybody but just answere these questions.
If you lie , you only screw yourself so here goes.
Do you live in CT?
What part?
Do you own a car, can borrow a car, can get a ride?
How old are you?
Would you go to a CT Meet for..
Game trading...?
Game buying ...?
Game Tourney..?
Just to meet the members..?
How long do you think a game meet should be?
Where do you think it should be held?
In a hotel lobby ?
In a Mall ?
In a gamestore?
At a computer show>?
In a rented hall ?
Can you afford to rent a hotel room for yourself if you have to?
Would you cry if hu6800 whupped your ass in street fighter zero 2?
did i leave anything out?
(put it here)
Knowing other peoples limitations will help you set up
a game meet. So will a list of helpful resources.

like i said before - what i was thinking of was just a meeting outside somewhere (yea it is getting cold now but i don't care)
i didn't want to rent anything, or create a convention or somekind of experience. I was willing to do something after if other members wanted to but that was not my main objective.
all i wanted was a no frills swap meet - as in meet, and swap (electronic game related stuff)
so there it is
if someone else wants to have a big splash and is willing to take the risk for it then fine - id show up to swap some games. All i wanted was a central location (primarily outdoors, neutral, and safe), date and time and thats what i was trying to get out of everyone.
i mentioned the idea to mindlesspunk for his place not for holding a CT swap meet in PA
i dont think there are anough CT memebers to warant convention

They have a parking lot, i live 20 mins away, we can hold an after party because my place is huge.
Im not worried about security, my landlord is a cop.

for some reason, so i just made a new account.
Im going to game live anyways, If anybody else is going

party at an all night diner.
I have 8 hardcore collector friends.
They have mucho imports, systems and whatnot that
they want to sell.
My friend Damon is trying to sell his Marty towns and a vitual boy (both boxed) I think he is looking for DS or PSP games .
Got another friend named Eric that is selling a pcengine
package with 50 carts.... its the white side by side cdrom
set.
He wants under $300
I think Eric is going to Game Live too.
use my AIM or msg me if your going..
we do have videogame stores (not EB or gamestop)

Because for the last 2 years people have suggested it
and nobody followed through..
WHO here is from CT and wants to do a game/DP meet?
even if it's only 10 serious members i would arrange something.
IT would be near CCSU
It would be near a hotel if you needed to stay a night.
it would be near at least 5 game stores.
i have local friends that would come/help.
I can arrange food, gaming and even armed security for your goods.
You can rifle through all my goods and maybe pick something up cheap or trade.
I have two huge rooms and two large tv's.
We can take pics and upload them here like
an official east coast CT DP squad should.
You can contact me here, by AIM or by phone.

any ways -- is anything going to happen
i see a bunch of interest but no one besides Hu6800 shot out any dates
fine how about i shoot out a couple dates - Sat Dec 17 or Jan 21 place: somewhere in CT bring a coat
does anyone like these dates? - how about a recomendation for a place - i dont care if its a rest stop on the highway

I'd probably be a lot more interested if this event had a fun tournament or something. I'd love to do a, for example, Dr. Mario (NES) pool of sorts where everybody puts in $5 and the winner takes all. Even Rampart, Blades of Steel, Baseball (NES)...stuff like that.
If this would happen and anywhere East of Hartford, I'd be there in a heartbeat!

Wow, I totally forgot about this thread. Glad to see that I haven't missed anything.
Well, I live in Connecticut and would definately come to a swap meet. Sure the convention thing sounds great but honestly, it's a lot of overkill unless someone here's giot a lot of time and money to invest in setting it up.
Why can't we just all meet at a pizza palor somewheres? I'm really only interested in trading and meeting other locals. If we want to set up something more elaborate such at a tournament we can always discuss it over pizza and beers.
I'm not sure where everyone else is from but I'm from the Groton area which is at the southest tip on Connecticut. I'm pretty sure that Googlefest said that he lived in Groton which isn't very far. I think that someone else mentioned that they were from New Britain. Is the Norwich area cool with everyone else as a meeting place? Both of the dates that Googlefest suggested would be fine with me. I'm open to suggestions.

it dosent seem like most were interested in that
could all people that are monitoring this thread please say if they want a meet to "trade games"
it does not have to be the dates i mentioned i was just throwing them out hoping they would spark up more interest
