Do you have more fun playing your cart-based games or cd-based games at times?

Most of my favorites are on carts, so I guess that means I have more fun with carts over cd.

I don't collect games for systems that have a cd/dvd format. I own some and play them, but I don't collect for them. CD's are so impersonal compared to Cartridges. Meaning, a cd is the same no matter what company made the game that's on it, its round, with some screen printing on top, the case is the same size for all games, except maybe for multidisc games like FF7. What I like about cartridges, especially for the 2600, is that there are many different sizes and styles of carts to collect. Most of the major software developers for the 2600 have their own distinct style of cartridge, which for me, adds to the fun of collecting. Not to mention that Cartridges are Tanks. Regularly used cartridges will outlast regularly used cds.

While there's lots of great games on CDs, I prefer cart over CD because cart games tended to be simpler and straightforward. With CD, some games often have lots of long cutscenes that you can't skip, making you wait for 20 or so minutes just to find out something you've already seen a few times before. :P

One the reasons I posted this poll was I hooked my SNES up to try out SFA2 and then got the random urge to beat Secret of Mana again and had alot of fun doing it.

Seems like I'm the only one who voted for cd-based games...

I'm on a limited budget, so I only collect games for a few systems. Mainly the Saturn, psx and dreamcast. I do have cart based games, but I don't want to spend too much money on them. So if I can choose between a good cd-based game and a good cart based game, I'll buy the cd.

Another thing is that all new games (excluded handhelds) are cd-based. If I buy a 70 bucks game, I will make very sure I play it to it's fullest. I don't really have that with a 5 bucks master system games. They are usually smaller too.

I like racing games a lot and pretty much all racing games on carts suck. And I like 3D games too. :)

I choose carts, but only because i´m a nostalgic person, but i think that there are a lot of great stuff in CD.

One the other reasons I tend to prefer carts then cd games some the time is cause cart games are just that, games. Many cd based games are too laced with FMVs nowadays, or they relay too much on graphics and sound then gameplay.

I like the CD-based games because:
1) I don't have a Neo-Geo AES
2) I do have a Saturn and PSX
3) There is (are?) a shitload-and-a-half of shooters for these systems
4) Sweet CD-based music and sound effects.

I know that cart-based sound improved greatly in the SNES and through the N64, but it's just hard to compete with CD sound, which I think greatly enhances the experience. Galactic Attack, for example, is a fantastic game, but the music just makes it that much better.

As far as the whole 3D thing goes, I think that it took the GD and DVD machines to bring 3D out of the darkness, although I admit that a few 3D CD games were pretty astonishing (e.g., Colony Wars, G-Police).

Strickly speaking I have more fun playing carts because I don't have to wait for anything.

But I don't think cart games themselves are better or worse than CD games or diskette games or games scanned from cards. A game is a game.

Carts...

O2, Atari VCS, and Intellivision were the best consoles known to man, IMHO.

Then again, thats me... I've been playing em for so long.

Todays games don't even come close to touching games from back then.

Where do floppies land in all this?

But I can't decide really I know I spent plenty of time on carts just have mind-less fun but at the same time cd games are longer and better for rpgs.

IMO Carts and CDs are just too diffrent.... so I say BOTH!

I went with Carts. Although there's a lot of great games on CD, there's just more fun in the cart games for me ranging from shorter load times to all the great classics that exist in this form. I'm sure later down the road it'll be both for me and eventually all CD when that times comes far from now. Not to mention, most of my collection are cartridges.

90% of all my games are for disc systems so I voted for that. My favourite systems are disc systems anyway.

I can't lie... It's carts for me. You shouldn't have put the "both" option, though. It's too easy a cop-out!

Definitely carts. There's something so more significant about a cart. The shape and size vary from system to system... And that feeling you get when you shove the cartridge in the slot, and you can feel it in your body when the cart slides right in for a perfect fit. Aaah yes..

Carts for me. Not only do I not have to worry about them getting scratched, but they just seem cooler to me. 8-)

Carts.. the games I really love are mainly on carts. Lack of loading, are easy to clean, look really cool when stacked up =P.. so many reasons to love Carts =D

Carts. There's just always been something I've found very gratifying about snapping in a cart. Playing a disc game only feels like using software, whereas putting in a cart...it's like you're changing the nature of the machine itself. I know logically that there's no difference between carts and discs regarding their functions as software, but it feels like a difference.
