Banjo-Kazooie was one of the best modern games I played to date. It had "personality" to make it stand apart from all the rest. *Great* music, smart-alecky characters, and addicitve play that kept me coming back for more! I nominate this for the best 3D platformer ever made.
BTW, I loved the ending "quiz" show... original!!! Ditto the Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter level: Same place, different times of the year. What a cool idea!

Hey I've been saying that for ages.. and I'm not really one to throw away game praise easily! One thing that knocked it down though was the character design (and why a lot of people didn't give it a chance). but to me that game was all about the cool environments.Once you give it a chance, and you get deep enough it's great (I loved the haunted area where you go through the toilet) LOL.
In this day and age though, it may not seem as impressive (especially since "collect the tokens" games have sort of gotten a bad rap by now). But the game was definitely magical for it's time. I still love it. :)
Now to go score another million in Robotron 8-)

Banjo-Kazooie will always hold a special place for me because that's the first game I ever played with my niece. When she was two, she used to just sit on my bed and watch while I played, and then eventually she took the controller and just ran around. She's five now and I bought her an N64 with the game for her birthday last year, and she's finally starting to get the hang of it. :)

Aww How cute!
I personally never liked that game though >.<';;
Oh well...I rented it a few times and I'll be damned if I didn't TRY to like it.
Maybe I just hate platformers.

One of the best.. Mario 64 might have invented the 3D platformer but Rare and Banjo-Kazooee perfected it..
great textures, great sound, great controls, interesting characters.. Even a secret ending that doesn't work!

Disagree. Sure, the graphics were pretty, but the problem was that the game just wasn't nearly as fun to play. The control wasn't as good or as varied as in Mario 64, and, I'm sorry, but videogame treasure hunts just aren't all that fun. I don't know why, but every rare game seems to turn into one of those, and that just made the game even less enjoyable for me.
And I actually somewhat liked the character designs in that game.

When I first started Banjo-Kazooie, I HATED it. It seemed too hard to collect everything (notes, mumbo-jumbos, honeycombs, jiggies, eggs, feathers) without dying.
Then I decided to concentrate exclusively on finding the JIGGIES only ( I got 92/100). That made the game move along at a much faster pace. As it turned out, you didn't need to pick up every item... just enough to get past the note doors (~90 notes per world).
I spent only 2 1/2 hours per world, so I avoided boredom.

Do you think Conker's BFD did anything to help the genre as well (I'm talking outside the toilet humor content here)?

Now that it's been established that Banjo-Kazooie is a kickass game, what about BANJO-TOOIE? Was the sequel as good as the original? Worth buying?
Any previews for Banjo-Threeie?
