I've never played a PC rpg before and i'm interested in getting one. I've heard good things about both of these here and on other sites. Which one would you recommend as the better game to start with or better game in general?

Daggerfall? As in the old DOS fps RPG? Or are you thinking of its more recent incarnation Morrowind? Or am I really confused?

In any case, I cant say enough good things about Icewind Dale, especially if you can con a friend into playing along. See if you can track down one of those Icewind Dale collection boxes with the original, the expansion and the sequel in it. The storyline is fairly thin, but it always delivers the action. Alternatively if you find Icewind Dale has too much hack and slash in it you could try Baldurs gate (same engine, less fighting and more story).

Other good PC RPGs- Dungeon Siege, Neverwinter Nights (i dont like it but its popular), Planescape Torment, and a few others that I cant really remember..

Both. And buy Baldurs Gate while you're at it. I'm a huge PC RPG fan, so I'm glad someone else is getting infected too. LOL

I voted Icewind Dale, not because I like it more than Daggerfall, but because if you're just getting started in PC RPGs it's a nice bug-free world to play with.

Daggerfall is for the hard-core partyless CRPG enthusiast. There's a good adventure in there, but it can be hard to find while your dealing with compatibility issues (better get a Pentium 200mhz running DOS or Windows 98 2nd Ed with a Sound Blaster 16) as well as the overall hugeness of the game. I do recommend you play Daggerfall, just don't play it first.

If you want to go really retro with rpg, find the SSI AD&D Gold Box Games, but only after you've played the Icewind Dales, the Baldur's Gates and Planescape Torments.

Oh, and Fallout 1 & 2 don't suck either.

Really, you could spend most of your waking moments for the next 10 years playing PC RPGs that are worth playing.

I absolutely loved Daggerfall but I agree that if you're just getting into PC RPGs then it may overwhelm you. Daggerfall doesn't hold you by the hand and walk you through the games storyline like a console RPG will. It's totally free moving. You really can get lost in the game wandering in between cities finding dungeons and even little villages that have absolutely nothing to do with the game's storeline. While that may be facinating to some people like me, it may frustrate others.

Daggerfall is one of my favorite old PC games but you should grab it's sequel Morrowind instead. It's even better.
You can't go wrong with any of them really.

Well, I think i'm going to look for that Icewind dale collection and play that first. I'd like to play baldur's gate and daggerfall too. I've already played the xbox version of Morrowind, though I don't think my pc could handle it. That's why I mentioned some older ones. Also, someone said you need to have dos for daggerfall? How about icewind dale? I have xp at the moment. I'm not sure if I can still play dos games.

Dosbox is a great program you can use to play all those old classic games...just do a google search and you can find it.

Pay a visit to Icewind Dale, and if you enjoy it, get the sequel and the Baldur's Gate series.

I have a copy of Ultima 9 that says Windows 95/98 w/directx 7 and it works fine on my computer. Does this mean icewind dale will too?

Daggerfall and MDK were the first 2 PC games I ever bought when I got my own, sweet new pentium 166, way back in '96. So naturally - I voted Daggerfall.

I have Windows ME on the computer I use for gaming and Icewind Dale works just fine on it.
