Beating is a game is a fine achievement but have you ever thought about how many you've beaten during span as a gamer?

I pretty in the process of doing a tally for myself and I'm up to about 170+ for about 18 years worth of gaming.

granted there are games where I cheated (I was six at the time...), and a majority of the games I haven't "completed" (didn't get all the items, characters, endings blah blah blah).

So anyone care to share their tallies?

I've beaten about 8 PS2 games, Hitman (2 games), MOH (2) True Crime and others. I've only ever beaten one game on the Megadrive. That was Empire of Steel, an excellent shmup (called Steel Empire in other countries, I think). I've come to the final boss a few times but I usually only have 1 ship left by then.

I've sort of beaten Sonic 3. I used Sonic and Knuckles to unlock all the levels then I played through each level separately. But I don't consider myself to have "beaten" it. I came close to beating Sonic 2 but I was staying up all night and I got bored by 5am

I've done 95% of GTA:SA 96% of VC and 98% of GTA3 but I jsut can't seem to get the last few per cent done

I should really concentrate on one game for a while. I'd have more chances of beating them if I actually played them a lot. I have a bad habbit of buying a game, playing it for a couple of hours, then putting it away on the shelf and forgetting about it.

But from that, no, I have no idea how many games I've beaten totaly.

A little bump here...I was doing a search on something else and came across this.

I have kept a list of games I have beaten, along with the time it took me to beat them, and what system they were for since I was 11 or 12. It's in the 470 range or so, iirc.

I'll never forget the greatest summer ever when I was 15 or so (maybe 14). I beat 90 games that summer. <sigh> It wasn't uncommon to beat 2 in a day then, sometimes 3 (rent it, beat it, return it, rent another). One day I beat 5! I really wish I dated my accomplisments so I can look back on what games I beat close to each other.

Can't say I didn't get any excercise either...the video store was 3 miles away, and I rode my bike there. I used to get a minimum of 6 miles a day on my bike...

How the hell did I find so much time to get into trouble back then?!

Over my life, no... I'm sure I beat many games back when I was a kid, but there is no way I would ever remember which ones they are.
Recently, yes. Everytime I beat a game, I add it to my post in the "Beaten in 2005" thread. 8-)

Haha, wow that's pretty impressive. I remember you telling stories about how the rental store would give you freebies? Was that you?

Anyway, I don't keep track. I probably won't start any time soon, either... I could find out though, really easily. I've got my entire collection catologued. Hmm... This is making me curious...

Yep, that was me! Wow...good memory, dude. They used to depend on me to review the games all thre way through to tell them which ones were good so they'd know what to recommend. People starting calling me from all over for game tips...even showing up at my house sometimes, lol. It got the point where I would often help people through games I had never even played just by having them describe what they were doing in the game.

The store wanted to hire me when I was 14, but they couldn't due to age restrictions for the workers in NH. They used to let me rent the games for free. I'd often help out around the store for the free rentals. Computer Junction...later Game Junction was the coolest store ever for rentals. They rented everything...TG16, Genesis, SNES, NES, GB, GameGear, NeoGeo. No SMS though, I don't think.

They used to let you play any game before you played it right there in the store. I remember being really let down when they went out of business.

The day the SNES came out I rented it and beat Super Mario World the same night. I was psyched because I found about 45 levels that night, including the secret worlds (and made it through them). I think the Blue switch palace was the last level I ever found in that game.

Renting a NeoGeo RULED.

you know this would've been a good poll question, or even what's the ratio of beaten versus owned, could really tell how many people just buy them as opposed to play them

Very few 'cause most games suck & aren't worth completing. Let's see - FF3 (japan), FF5, FF6, FF7, FF9, FF10, Kingdom Hearts, Banjo-Kazooie, Mario64, Ratchet & Clank 1, Tales of Destiny 2, Metroid Zero, plus other i forgot

I keep a list of finished games in excel spreadsheet. I don't have as many as I should for how long I've been playing games. If I were to add up the number of times I've beaten certain games it would be high. Some games I've been 20+ times. If I had a list of all my back logs and all the games I haven't finished it would be huge. I can't imagine the number of games I started and never finished.

Bastard. [note adaml's use of sarcasm]

I abandoned the quest to legit beat every single NES game around the time I met my wife (1998). Since then my philosophy on finishing NES games is to be the only person who has gone through every single NES game and seen the endings (or lack thereof).

The last couple of years I have really slowed down, beating only a few regular NES games this year. I have really enjoyed playing through some wretched Sachen games lately and a lot of the PAL only NES games, but once in awhile the mood strikes me just right like it did with Wario's World the other day and I just go for it. Let me tell you, even through cheating Wario was a bitch at Stage 99.

If anyone cares, here's what I have left:

Bandit Kings of Ancient China (Koei) --10
F-117A Stealth Fighter (Microprose) --8
Gemfire (Koei) --8
L'Empereur (Koei) --9
Miracle Piano Teaching System (Mindscape) --10
Nobunaga's Ambition II (Koei) --9
Overlord (Virgin) --9
Pirates (Ultra) --8
Pool of Radiance (FCI) --8
Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2 (Koei) --9
Silent Service (Ultra) --9
Ultima: Warriors of Destiny (FCI) --10
Uncharted Waters (Koei) --9

The number next to them is what I assess the difficulty of the game at. Miracle Piano scares me.

Let's see uh...

Well I've been playing video games for about 7 years.

I've completed approximately.... 100 games. :D I'd say I'm pretty good at just about any game now too. I'm not the best at sport and racing games, but other games I can win in no time flat.

I could probably make a list, but nah... I don't feal like it.

NOTE: My estimate may be way off. LOL

Back in the "old days", I had a list of the entire rental inventory of our local Curtis-Mathes store, and I used that to check off the games I beat. They had all of the NES and SMS games (with minor exceptions), and so I had a fairly definitive listing. Anyway, I would generally rent a "Nintendo game", beat it, and return it the next day. The higher quality games (Zelda, Metroid, etc.) I bought and paced myself (you can beat Zelda 1 in a few hours, if you want to, but if you laid out $40 for it, don't you want it to last awhile?).

Anyway, in the late 80's, I had two lists: One list was arcade games I beat (including Pyros, which I felt was pretty impressive at the time), and the other was the rental list showing NES and SMS games I beat. I still have the lists. I stopped keeping count once I got a Genesis, but at the time I had about 100 NES games beaten, 20 or so SMS games, and about another 20+ arcade games finished. Since then (estimates), probably 50-60 Genesis games, 5 or so 32X games, 5 Sega CD games, 10 Saturn, 15 Dreamcast, and 5 Xbox games. That covers the Sega (!) systems. I didn't pick up a SNES until later. and I only have 10 or so SNES games beaten. A couple of N64 games, a few Gamepube games.

There are a few old games that I consider "beaten", such as Pitfall 2, Frankenstein's Monster, and a few others.

All in all, I would guesstimate that I've beaten around 300-350 games in my life. I beat myself more frequently (it's a win/win situation).

cyberfluxor
12-14-2005, 07:53 PM
I don't know all the games off the top of my head, but when I see the title I know if I beat it. For example:
PC: Diablo series (1,2,exp), Starcraft (Not exp), Doom 1 & 2, Simcity 2k (When Exodus occues), Wolf 3D, Descent, Duke Nukem, and then my memory fades for PC.
On consules, it's a lot more difficult to recall because:
1) I own a lot more games for it, and
2) I would usually pick up another game before I'd beat my previous.
eg. In FF7, the farthest I got was the crator, then I got into Gran Turismo 2. What a switch :P

But escentially, I'd say I've beaten around 20 games. Sad but true.

Oh! I made it all the way through Unreal Turnament and Quake III arena on the DC! I played the hell out of that game! And reminds me, I beat Quake 2 on the PC!

Back when all I had was a NES, 1987-2003 (okay, I had an original Gameboy during that period as well), I made a concerted effort to beat every beatable game I had. Now that I have many more systems, that's still a goal of mine. On my collection lists, besides listing whether I have the box and manual for the game, and how many players it accommodates, I also list whether I have beaten it or not.

NES games are the most impressive, and I don't have any beat for SMS, Genesis (including Sega CD and 32X), Saturn, or N64. Anyway, here are the breakdowns:

NES: 45
SNES: 6
Playstation (includes PS1 and PS2): 8
Gamboy (includes original, color, and advance): 18

Obviously, there are plenty of computer games I've beaten over the years, but since I don't maintain a collection of them, I can't add their numbers. Still, I'm pretty happy with my totals.
