Sega CD needs an attached genesis console. Each system needs it own power source. If you have a model 1 Sega CD(with disc tray), then you most likely have a model 1 Genesis. Both of these units require the same power adapters(the larger ones MK-1602 if I am not mistaken). But each needs its own. If you have a model 2 Sega CD(disc lid), then You most likely have a model 2 Genesis. The Sega CD requires the MK-1602 power and the console MK-2103. However, I do not think that either model will work without the metal connector plate between the Genesis and Sega CD. You might be able to have someone custom make you a plate if you are missing it. Hope this helps.

If you're sure you have the right power supplies and everything is connected correctly, then you should be aware that the fuse in the Sega CD tends to break.

The metal plate is not a required item.
It is mostly there, thank God, to keep the genny system on top from twisting around and busting off the connector pins that come out of it and into the Sega CD. I still use mine tough when i hook up a Genny and CD for the safety, and i got nothing better to use the plate for.
I have to agree with SkiDragon, if you KNOW you got it all hooked up and working RIGHT and there is nothing worong with the Genny, it is Most Likely the fuse, the Sutpid Fuse!
as a side note, Thankfully i am one of the lucky ones that has never had to replace or bipase the fuse in my Gennys ever in their lives!
Hope this helps

There are TWO metal plates, a large one that screws in and a smaller one that snaps over the remaining open Genesis vents on the bottom. I thought they were designed as RF sheilding, hence why they slide into the upper RF shielding on the inside of the Sega CD.
